Strong start for the Xbox One X as was to be expected. Just like Pro, this shows there is an audience for mid gen consoles with higher spec. The launch week sales were equal to that of the Nintendo Switch and about half what the original Xbox One sold in its first week.

The first week sales of Xbox One X is over 80,000 in the UK, GamesIndustry.biz can reveal.

Retailers have shared data that reveal that Microsoft's new super-powered console has sold as many units in its first week as Nintendo Switch did in March (hardware figures are up-weighted 20%. Xbox One X raw data is at 67,000).

It's first week sales are also well ahead of PS4 Pro, which did a little over 50,000 back in November 2016. Indeed, it took PS4 Pro four weeks to reach the same number.

Of course, stock shortages of both PS4 Pro and Switch will have impacted the performance of those machines.

Interesting. How did PS4 Pro do in UK?

edit: nevermind. It says right there in the OP. Very impressive for a $500 console.

Hmm sold more than the PS4 pro that's kind of surprising considering its higher price point.
It will be interesting to see how it did in the US.

Nice. MS did a great job with the 1X. It's even more impressive when you think about the price. Great job.

For a console with retail price 449 pounds, I would say it is a good start.
Congrats, Microsoft~

Was raw data for pro 50,000? If so, why did they not up-weigh that 20% as well?

I would argue that PS4 owners had/have less reason to go for the Pro as Xbone owners must be pretty fed up of shit 3rd party ports.

Well, in other European markets, like NL, it is still softly and softly launch.

Legs will be what defines these consoles, Ps4 Pro started strong but OG Ps4 quickly regain the lead.

What does this mean?

PS4 250,000 2 days
Xbox One 150,000 2 days
Switch 80,000 2 days
Xbox One X 80,000 5 days
PS4 Pro 50,000 3 days

Note: PS4, Switch and PS4 pro had stock problems during the launch

Great start, as I expected the core base of fans is really going for it right out of the gate.

Especially interesting to compare this to Switch, as Switch is a new console launching with a mainline Zelda title while the mid-gen refresh here has no real launch game. Also tells me supply is healthy. Good on Microsoft to meet demand!

Its worth noting that both the Switch and PS4 Pro had stock issues at launch, whereas the X is readily available in the UK

Still seems a good start for X here

Looks like there is still some fight left in the Xbox.

Probably worth noting that from the article.

Not surprising,it's a new piece of hardware. Let's see how it continues to sell. Also wonder about US sales.

"hardware figures are up-weighted 20%. Xbox One X raw data is at 67,000"
What does this mean?

GfK Chart-Track account for a certain % of the hardware market.

I imagine, based on the 20% figure, that they track around 80% of retailers in the UK. So the raw figure, 67,000 us upweighted to account for 100% of the market. (67 / 0.8 = 84)

Was raw data for pro 50,000? If so, why did they not up-weigh that 20% as well?

They did.

Good start for an iterative hardware jump.

I hope this iterative system is here to stay, there's no reason why we should have to suffer horribly outdated hardware late into a generation if you can afford to upgrade.

Shall we expect a PR from Microsoft today to address the global sales of Xbox One X for the first week?

Well deserved. From what little I got to play with one it's a gorgeous piece of hardware.

It will be interesting to see how things progress into the new year.

Looking how quickly the PS4P sales dropped, It seems prudent to see what happens after a month and see if there's any significant increase in XOXs performance. It does seem more vocal...

Personally I think these mid-gen upgrades are completely front loaded (people either pre-order them or are day 1 owners) and demand dies far quicker compared to other console releases.

Than again I haven't really looked at if there's any significant supply issues with these mid-gen releases.
