Continues to boggle my mind here in America that we have a president who continues to think football players kneeling for the national anthem is a bigger problem than A 25% INCREASE IN THE LAS 18 YEARS OF PEOPLE KILLING THEMSELVES. I know, there's a hotline in place, resources to seek help, etc. IT'S VERY CLEAR THAT IT ISN'T WORKING.

Anecdotally for me, there are 3 (including Bourdain) suicides in my worldsphere in the last 3 weeks. It's insane.

Suicide at 61, isn't that very rare?
It's not rare at all. In fact it's rising.

In 2014, 13 people out of every 100,000 took their own lives, compared with 10.5 per 100,000 in 1999. The suicide rate increased every year from 1999 to 2014 among both women and men and in every age group except those 75 and older.

Aw man, did know he suffered too.. RIP and you will be missed, loved his shows, loved his books.

As one who has been down that road, for people who never been through it, your brain really doesn't work all that well when you are really depressed, you make illogical choices that make total sense in the moment, looking back at it, it's almost like you are another person with no self preservation left, if that makes sense.

Fuck man, rest in peace Tony. I owe so much to this man, no reservations, the layover, and parts unknown really helped shape my worldview and my love of food as a way for one to experience other cultures.

I'd like to think that he is somewhere in Vietnam, playing with kids in the streets and riding a bike on his way to a family meal.

Thank you, Anthony.

Thats really all I think of when I see him in my mind. Just hanging out away from the touristy parts of all these places and trying his best to experience the country and the people who live in those cities as the locals do.

GF was spotted with someone else in Rome a couple days ago. Nobody is untouchable when it comes to depression.

Have any sources? I couldn't find a single thing about it from Google. Only articles about Anthony and his girlfriend met in Rome and we're photographed there together in October of last year

Nevermind... I dumb

This is absolutely crushing to me. I don't think there has ever been another television personality who has actually awakened my adventurous and curious side. He's probably the greatest foodie, and an amazing storyteller.

Losing to suicide also speaks to me in volumes louder than most. It's going to be a sad day.

Loved his work, and he seemed like a genuinely down-to-Earth, funny, and intelligent man. May he Rest In Peace.

I'm taking the day to myself. His ability to conquer his own issues and demons to get to where he was is what made me look up to him.

I don't blame him at all. I understand entirely actually since I suffer from depression myself, but seeing someone you looked up to in that regard for years end up this way is just heartbreaking. It's gonna be a real hard day today.

Please stop speculating on causes of his suicide. This isn't the time nor the god damn place to be linking to The Mail of all sources.

That cook and traveler lane he had going was great. Loved his approach and always allowing each region to have their time in the spotlight. Spent a few hours watching parts unknown years back. Painful brehs.

This is legitimately heartbreaking. Bourdain was such an inspiration. Self-made guy who fought his way out of so many problems to live a successful life of travel, food, and drink. I took so much inspiration from him, and still will. Depression and suicide are real sons of bitches.

This one hits close. I used to watch no reservations religiously and loved what few episodes I saw of the layover. I never read his book but I always enjoyed reading his opinion essays he would put out every so often. He had a great way to explain things and make his writing feel personable which is an increasing rare trait.

Between this and Kate Spade, this week has been rather trying since I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and am in a rut of sorts as well. I encourage everyone to see the Mauro Ronaldo documentary as it has been helping me come to terms with it.

Please everyone always inquire how someone is doing. It really makes a difference

Reposting what I said on Facebook.

Celebrity deaths don't tend to hit me all that hard overall, because most are people we simply watch from afar and enjoy. It may sting for a few days, and on the reminder of the date, but we move on. This one, Anthony Bourdain, hurts. There aren't a lot of celebrities I look up to, but Tony was easily the top of my list.

He came from the kitchen as a line cook, which showed in his knowledge of not only the food but the people involved with the food and culture. That's the biggest thing I always took away from his shows, that without people you would not have the amazing foods all over the world. His writing style was easily my favorite, his demeanor towards life and challenges one to respect, and his interview skills were so personal and perfect.

I recommend everyone watch the Hanoi episode of Parts Unknown with the full interview with President Obama. It shows how Tony was able to bring out the personality and fun with his guests and make episodes about people, not just food.

RIP Anthony Bourdain.

What the fuck? I just saw this guy on his show a few days ago. And he was going to have a Berlin episode too. Jesus, man.
