Man these tribute just will not stop. It's amazing the variety of people that are reaching out to say a kind word about him. It speaks to just how far and wide his reach and appeal was.

This is the guy who in my mind made it. He was the guy that got out of the shit and knew it well enough to call it out when he saw it. He went through hell and got out so he could come around on the other side and keep it in check, point it out, mock it.

He was like me and my friends. Fugitives from a shitty industry who made it out and were cynical because of it.

And now he's like my friends who didn't make It out in the end.

Guy was a rock star.

I'm incredibly sad to hear this. One of my favorite personalities of any medium. His shows taught me so much, and I appreciated the sincerity and humility he had while exploring different cultures. I'm not exactly surprised, though. I always got the feeling that he had some major demons. I really hope he found peace.

Damn, not the way I suspected him to go out. Having met him, and knowing people who met him.. they all said he was a genuine guy. I've read his book, watched his shows, so him with his live show.

I'd say he was the most important food personality since Julia Child. The respect he showed foods of other cultures, and the way he went about it.

Huge loss for humanity.

RIP.

Seemed to be a person who had everything to live for.
This is what is tearing me up the most.

The guy had a 12yr old daughter, money, fame, the best job on Earth, a beautiful girlfriend, and fan who very clearly loved him.

To know all of that and still see depression get to someone like that is just heartbreaking for someone like me who also suffers from depression.

Very influential person that I respect and admire. So sad. RIP Tony.

I literally moved across the country on a whim based on No Reservations. I was watching travel channel in bed, just not eating. I was massively depressed after I left an abusive relationship. I am devastated at this new, but he left a major impression when talking about his demons and getting up from them.

The top of CNN's website is draped in Black now. Also, they're prominently featuring this article:

How to get help for someone who might be suicidal

The death of celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain on Friday and fashion designer Kate Spade earlier in the week spotlights the importance of recognizing potential warning signs when someone intends to end their life.
The attention is needed, especially now.
When a high-profile person dies by suicide, the "celebrity-suicide effect" can lead to a rise in copycat deaths. In the four months after Robin William's took his own life in 2014, there was a 10% increase -- almost 2,000 additional suicides -- recorded.
There is already a rise in suicide rates in the US, increasing more than 25% since 1999. Suicide was the 10th leading cause of death in 2015, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Suicide rates are also rising worldwide, with some one million people dying annually from suicide. The World Health Organization estimates a global suicide rate of one death every 40 seconds, which by 2020 they predict will increase to one every 20 seconds.

If you or someone you know might be at risk of suicide, here are ways to help:
Call 1-800-273-8255 to reach the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. It provides free and confidential support 24 hours a day, seven days a week for people in suicidal crisis or distress. You can learn more about its services here, including its guide on what to do if you see suicidal language on social media. You can also call 1-800-273-8255 to talk to someone about how you can help a person in crisis. Call 1-866-488-7386 for the TrevorLifeline, a suicide prevention counseling service for the LGBTQ community.

If you suspect someone may be at risk:

1. Do not leave the person alone.
2. Remove any firearms, alcohol, drugs or sharp objects that could be used in a suicide attempt.
3. Call the U.S. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
4. Take the person to an emergency room or seek help from a medical or mental health professional.

Text HOME to 741741 to have a confidential text conversation with a trained crisis counselor from Crisis Text Line. Counselors are available 24/7. You can learn more about how their texting service works here.
For online chat, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline provides a confidential chat window, with counselors available 24/7. Boys Town also provides counselors for youth-specific online chat at this link. It is available every Monday through Friday between 6 p.m. and midnight in the Central time zone.
For crisis support in Spanish, call 1-888-628-9454. For support outside of the US, a worldwide directory of resources and international hotlines is provided by the International Association for Suicide Prevention. You can also turn to Befrienders Worldwide.
Another way to help is by supporting the nonprofits that provide suicide counseling, prevention and education. Volunteers are needed, and some train to become counselors.

Wow! You think someone has it all, and then this happens... I hope he's finally found peace. I'm going to miss new episodes of his show. I absolutely loved it, and his commentary. I was living vicariously through him every week, so that really sucks.

Praying for his daughter as well. No little girl should have to deal with this, especially at 12.

His GF admitted to have been raped by Weinstein. Most people can't handle it and get passed it. It's very traumatic in one's mind. This may have put some ripple in their relationship. I'm not saying this may have cause it, but you never know.

I was audibly shook at work when I saw this on the news. And he killed himself too? Damn...

I remember seeing him, Andrew Zimmerman and the guy from Man vs Food all the time as a kid when I watched the Travel Channel. RIP

I still can't believe it. Hours later and I don't think it's really clicked with me yet. The world lost a legend today.

I'm real bummed as well, Anthony was amazing, informative, and really good at showcasing people and cultures in the best way, by what they eat.
