Is Ash Lake actually the lowest point? Considering that the Witch of Izalith seems to have been the Witch of Izalith before the old world was laid to waste, and the way that the Demon Ruins shows tree roots rolling down onto the old structures from above, Lost Izalith feels just as low to me.

Of course, it's probably all somewhat interpretive, since the physical relationship between Ash Lake and Lordran is pretty whacky.
I thought it was. But it seems they are at different places sort of? Based on this map rendering, Ash Lake is the lowest point [edit: I actually had the 3D map viewer on my PC from a while back, I opened it, and depending on the perspective, Bed of Chaos can be slightly lower, but they're parallel and not really on top of one another, so yes it's subjective) :

Ash Lake is the indigo area at the very bottom, Bed of Chaos is the circular kaki-coloured pit.

Also note you can initially kindle bonfires once but the Rite of Kindling (which you got from Pinwheel) enables you two kindle an additional two times for a total of twenty estus flasks. While each bonfire has to be kindled individually, this does carry over into NG+.

So I'm almost finished with the game and one of the last things I will do is go on a grand tour to all the bonfires and dump my remaining humanity in them. The Fair Lady can have the rest and after that it's time for the final boss.

For the time being, though, I'm going to farm for souls and titanite shards to get the unique boss equipment.
Thanks for the tips, the ride will be more easy now.

I love slamming through hordes of undead without their attacks interrupting me. I can even kill those spearmen through their shields with the Dark Knight Greatsword.

Too bad I can't wield Artorias's actual sword because I'm a faithless bastard.

Large ember is at the beginning of the depths, takes weapons to +10. Very large is in New London, but you need to drain the water first. This one takes weapons to +15.

The natural scaling will improve on upgraded weapons, for the quality weapons I think the highest it goes for both Str and Dex would be a B?

Edit: What the guy above me said.

She usually gets stuck aggro'd to the ghosts above her if you haven't taken them all out - she can't attack them and they won't usually come down to her. She is wearing the ring, so if you've dealt with all the enemies she can help you in the Abyss - for what it's worth!

This was pretty silly on From's part, at the very least they could've made her able to attack the ghosts.

There's no ember for this similar to how you can make Quality weapons in Demon's Souls (where the phrase comes from) - Quality weapons in DS1 are just ones that scale equally (or well) with both STR and DEX like the Claymore.

Thanx peeps!!

^ iirc, pretty sure you can't summon in Ash Lake. The clam enemies down there drop Purging Stones which cures Curse btw.

Guys, I need fun ideas for PvE runs.
- SL1 Run
- Spellsword (rapier/magic)
- No melee/no shield (magic, miracles only) - no shield adds more risk
- No Estus/No Kindling (Heal miracle and gear like Evil Eye Ring, Sanctus only)
- Bow only
- Consumables only on bosses (daggers, firebombs, no bow/crossbolt allowed)
- Weapon types you hate (I'm doing this at the moment, a no shield or bow allowed run using only curved swords and spears, yuck!)
- Cosplay runs

I guess they're mostly challenge runs because it's often about limiting yourself in one way or another to keep it fun and creative.

You can cheese the Hydra if you hide in the hollow log and fire at its heads with a bow. It will continue blasting projectiles at you, but they won't damage you in the log.

Make sure to stock up on arrows, though. The heads need about 5 - 6 large arrows each at 30 Dex and they're easy to miss.

Funny how this game can get in your head. Doing playthrough #4, think I have most areas relatively mastered. Nope. Died more times than I'd like to admit going through Sen's. Stupid deaths, and they get worse the more impatient I get. I did learn that I can just run up against the swinging blades without getting hurt though, which is pretty funny.

Sif goes down first try.

Then O&S, figure I'll go for Smough first. Do great the first time, then keep messing up timing on Ornstein's second phase. No problem. Come back, let's do this. Dead without doing any damage. LOL Takes like 10 more tries, and on that 10th try, I only used 1 Estus. This game is so weird and kinda unpredictable, and I love that about it.

Now in New Londo, and a couple dumb mistakes means I gotta go grind now a little bit to buy some Transient Curses, slowing down my progression.

Yeah, it's weird. When I was last into DS 1 I was basically face rolling through NG with new characters, I could practically do it with my eyes closed. I come back with remaster expecting the same thing but, no, I'm getting bodied by the areas(Still remember every corner of everywhere but the depths, though) and dying on the bosses more than I thought I would(4 times on O&S when I expected to one-shot it). The areas in particular are still murdering me. Probably got too cocky.

I actually went in expecting to think that the newer Dark Souls were actually harder despite my rose-tinted goggles telling me otherwise, but no. Boss-wise Dark Souls 1 is a lot more forgiving at first(Stuff like the butterfly seems more like a tutorial, for example), but the areas....

Holy fuck this is the first time i'm seeing this. I know all about church roof - duke / sen's - church / undead - lower visual connections but this?! My god.

Yeah, this game's sense of place, of actually feeling like a cohesive world whose various parts are all visible from one another, hasn't been equalled in the series since. In DS2 you can see a couple different areas from Majula, but it just doesn't have the same effect.

I thought I'd seen everything the game had to offer, but I was in Valley of the Drakes just now, happened to look up and far above could see the aqueduct leading to Undead Burg. Mind was blown.

Picked up Dark Souls back in 2013 and got up to Sen's Fortress, got my ass absolutely handed to me and pretty much put it down. I was playing too many games at the time and couldn't keep putting in so much time in the same place dying again and again. Tried it again a couple of times throughout the years but never got much farther and ended up not going back. A friend of mine who also never beat the first one bought the game for me too so we could both finally do it. Seems like now is as good a time as any to give it another go.

I don't even remember what build I was going with the first time. Here's to my second first try at Dark Souls. I can do it this time, I just know it.

You can do it bro! My input would be, don't hesitate to look something up. I'm playing this game for fun, and if I stop having fun trying to figure something out, boom Dark Souls wiki. Or if I'm struggling with a boss or area, or just bored of it, you best believe I'm popping a humanity and summoning help. You'll still struggle through and kill and figure out plenty of shit on your own.

You can definitely do it. I played it back in 2014 and never made it beyond the Capra Demon. That boss was too hard to beat and I was scared of what awaited me beyond. And here I am know, currently standing in front of the final bos, figuratively speaking.

Just got the Platinum Trophy. As soon as I started NG+2 I did everything as fast as I could, skipping almost every encounter until I got Sif's soul, then rushed back to Andre... only to remember that he doesn't forge boss soul weapons. Feeling stupid, I was already depressed of having to kill Capra Demon and the Gaping Dragon again and going all through Blighttown again, but then I remembered I could skip all that if I went through the Valley of Drakes. YAY! Not having to deal with three areas and two bosses cheered me up quite a bit, and Quelaag was very easy with a BKS+5. Not having stopped at any bonfires in the way, a homeward bone took me back to Darkroot Basin. Then I rushed to Undead Parish, killed the Gargoyle Demons, rushed through Sen's Fortress and killed the Iron Golem (btw, I never knew the giant dude at the top of the tower threw bombs at you *while fighting the boss*). Anor Londo was okay except for getting shot by an archer in a place I didn't know they could reach (the bridge between the area with three demons and the tower with two more, just before the archers). Then I reached the giant blacksmith, got Artorias's Greatshield and... the trophy didn't pop up. It turned out I was still missing the Stone Greatshield. Not wanting to fight O&S again, I started backtracking to Darkwood Forest again, slipped off a ledge in Sen's Fortress and was sent back to Anor Londo's second bonfire, backtracked again and actually managed not to fall to my death this time around and killed only 6 stone giants to get the shield. Bam! I don't know why I felt like sharing this, but all those brainfarts during my third playthrough felt like a funny story to tell.

Anyway, there are two more things I'd like to share. One probably useful and that definitely must have been said all over the internet, and the other some useless bragging.

First one: First-timers and anybody else who has trouble fighting the last boss, stop trying to block his attacks and start parrying them. It may seem hard at first, but it becomes second nature once you get the timing right. Block only as a last resort, and try parrying right after he finishes a swing (if you stay close to him, most of his attacks will be a 3-hit combo). Also, don't be intimidated by his jumping attack as soon as you cross the fog wall. You can consistently parry him during that move, so don't panic.

Second one: Yesterday, on my way to finish NG+, I actually managed to kill the Bed of Chaos without dying. I know, nothing special, but, just like killing O&S by myself, it was also something I had never done before. I want to share this achievement with you guys, please don't mind the desperate gameplay.

Nice. I have never actually done this before. The only times I beat BoC without dying was by using the reload trick, and I often end up dying regardless...

Still don't know how you are supposed to dodge through the branch swipe. I don't think it's actually possible. Which is bullshit but oh well. Has anyone ever done it? Any vids of it?

Common knowledge maybe, but anyone looking for a place to farm souls: go to the Painted World and farm Phalanx demons. With the Symbol of Avarice (Mimic head) and Covetous Silver Serpent Ring I'm farming at a rate of 12k souls per minute. A wide hitting weapon that can deal 380+ damage on them works best. I personally use the Black Knight Greatsword +5.

Thank you, guys! :3

Well, I just found this:

What a bullshit boss fight.

So it looks like it's impossible to i-frame through or this meticulous analysis would have shown at least one example of it haha. You just have to stay out of reach. But yeah it's bullshit. This video shows almost pixel by pixel the "safe" zones and all but there's zero way a player can know these things without having done the boss a ridiculous amount of times already. Plus, the attacks have no tell because the camera is shit.

There is really no defending this boss fight haha. It's too bad because it looks super cool, one of the most interesting visual designs in the game. But it's impossible to really appreciate because the fight is so bad.

Nothing like a transient curse running out just as you're entering combat. *whiff* *whiff* stunlock DEAD. I knew it was going to happen too... that's always the best part.
In my experience, using the transient curse right at the entrance (like on the bridge before the ghosts), playing more or less normally without hurrying but without dallying either, will make the curse expire right in that one room before the ladder leading to Ingward, which of course has a million ghosts spawning from all sides. :D In most cases I can make it there fast enough to kill all the ghosts before the curse expires, but sometimes not quite, and yeah... frustrating. I wonder if it was sadistically intentional or just coincidence.

I think by now, the most fun I'm still having with this game is laughing at my stupid deaths.

I've done countless challenge runs, from sl1, naked to no upgrading and I still catch myself getting greedy and too full of myself during some sections and bosses.

Wheel skeletons in tight spaces: harder than any boss in the game. :P

Poise can actually get you killed easier against these guys since flinching sometimes lets them roll past you.

Other than that I don't really have any tips except keeping your eyes open.

I just did the same bit with the same weapon. Most frustrating part of the game so far. The big room was awful so I did a couple of suicide runs to get the last glowing items, then spent an hour wandering around the rest of the level wondering how to unlock the boss door.

Never aggro two, and use the intersections to dodge the ones in the corridors, then chase.

This is my third playthrough of the game and, because my weapon is practically useless in tight spaces, it's a complete gamble whether my hits land on the goddamned Skeletons at all. It feels like I'm being punished by Miyazaki himself for choosing to go through the game with an OP weapon.

I can't seem to even get into the big room. I hit the illusory wall and two of the fuckers just come wheelin' in like it was nothing. Since there's literally no place except the well you come in at I can actually fight them all of my attempts so far have ended in pure, unbridled frustration.

You can farm souls basically from the beginning of the game super fast if you buy the crest of artorias and open that door. Aggro all the forest guys, and there is a certain spot you can stand where they all run off the cliff to their deaths.

Yeah, the scythe isn't optimal there at all. Its two handed R2 should work though.

Edit:No wait, I think the one handed was the downward attack...not sure anymore. >.<

It's a great build. My current DEX/FTH build uses Iaito with sunlight blade and the canvas talisman. 30 faith and you're all set with a pretty high damaging build.
