Why are people blaming GTA online? You do realise a new GTA coming out would make them nearly a billion within the first year and a new GTA will obviously have GTA online too. So it's not GTA online. They taking their time with their projects. A new GTA would still be able to milk GTA online.

Also hello there is a game called Red Dead Redemption 2 coming out later this year.

For all we know the next GTA could be announced next year and out the following. Rockstar have too many employees so most likely some of them have started work on the next GTA. The story for RDR 2 is done. I doubt Houser brothers are sat on their arses or playing table tennis. They'd be probably writing the story for the next GTA.

I am most upset about the fact that GTA V received no update for the Pro or X to up the resolution etc.

What a waste. They are making millions and can't work on that? Yeeeesh

Rockstar has never done this (released 2 open world games so close together). Releasing GTAVI so close to the launch of RDR online would also hurt that game.

They've stated that everyone is working on RDR2 currently. You're right though, there probably is a small team working on GTAVI. But assuming everyone moves to it after RDR2 goes gold, I doubt a year or two is enough time to get GTAVI out.

Then tell me this:
Why did they stop making as much games as last gen? You know, after GTA Online became a thing?

The fact is unlike back then, they have a cash cow that will still bring in cash without any care in the world. Back then they needed to make new games each year to make money but now they can create updates for GTA Online and the whales will eat it up.

Not surprising at all to me based on the information we learned from some of the Red Dead Redemption II previews. All of Rockstar's studios came together to work on RDRII after the remaster of GTAV was finished. RDRII appears to be massive endeavor and much more complex than GTAV. I don't think we really have a clue just how deep RDRII will be and I'm thinking it's really going to blow people's minds.

At this point it will probably be one GTA per generation and GTAVI will be PS5/neXtBox.

Personally, I hope they release something else before GTAVI.

Its still one of the best selling games with huge nickel and dime cash along the way. Consumers have given them no reason to bother. PS5 title for sure imo.

I don't think they convinced RDR online is gonna take off in that setting. It definitely won't be as big as GTA online or as successful.

What are they going to sell online? Upgrade your horses arse? Not like you can buy helicopters or fast cars.

Where as with the GTA setting you can literally add anything to the game.

It wouldn't make sense to have sports cars racing in the Wild West.

GTA V & Online also generated $6 billion in revenue for Rockstar...more revenue than any other film, book, or video game in history. It's an absolute juggernaut that's changed Rockstar so radically that I would even call them a different company now.

Hasn't League of Legends generated more revenue?

LA Noire was made by team bondi. Who are closed.

Games like Table tennis and Midnight rush didn't require huge resources. Max Payne 3 was supposed to be out in 2009 but was pushed all the way to 2012.

Their big projects are the priorities now. All their teams work on one big game now.

They would still need to make more games if it weren't for GTA Online because without it they can't wait for half a decade until they release a new game.

I know that their whole company create one game now but without GTA Online that wouldn't have happened. I would rather have more varied franchises than one game each half decade or so.

They already have a small team on GTA online.

If people really believe the rest of the thousands of employees are just sat there doing nothing for the last few years then I don't know what to believe. Red Dead is the issue. It was supposed to come out in 2017 and taken them more time than they thought.

i always assumed the dev time for each title was taking longer and longer and you could kinda guess the next release, lets look at the dates!

Grand Theft Auto III - October 22, 2001
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - October 27, 2002
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - October 26, 2004
Grand Theft Auto IV - April 29, 2008
Grand Theft Auto V -September 17, 2013

each dev cycle was longer then the last and i would assume gta6 dev time would be around 7 to 8 years if they just started working on it right after release

so yeah my guess gta6 - October 2020 :P haha

The modern Rockstar games like GTA and RDR are so incredibly detailed and massive I am honestly fine with one coming out every 3-4 years.

2018 - RDR2
2022 - GTA VI: Vice City 2
2026 - RDR3
2030 - GTA VII: Cyberpunk

It doesn't matter how huge of a team GTA Online had though.

My point is that they would be forced to make more games if it weren't for GTA Online making them money. So they would need to make more games like in the past couple of generations to keep the profit stream.

I admit I've recently begun spending money on micro transactions but I will never rejoin GTAO, or at least buy from them. The GTA$ exchange rate is a fucking scam

And how do you know that?

Max Payne 3 only sold 3 million copies. LA Noire was a disaster for them.

These big projects will gain them more revenue than working on two small projects. I thought the point of this thread was why don't Rockstar announce another GTA rather than why don't Rockstar make other games.

GTA online doesn't require thousands of people to be working on it. Adding a few hats, cars or choppers doesn't take a lot of staff.

It took Bethseda 4 years from Skyrim to Fallout 4. If RDR 2 came out as planned it would have taken the same amount of time from GTA to RDR2.

There's so many open world games out now. Rockstar have put all their staff on it because they want to stand out from the rest. Rockstar want their games to be different from the rest.

I like their strategy for this franchise. Take a long time cooking up ideas and developing one quality entry then capitalize as much from it.

Again, the bolded is the reason they can pull that off. GTA Online is to blame for Rockstar not releasing that many games these days because they do not need to have games each year.

If it weren't for GTA Online then they can't pull that "whole company" making one big game but would need to make more games each year.

With all this development time and money, just imagine the behemoth they are creating.

They have no reason to rush at all, they have all the time and funding in the world.

Not really.

Games like LA Noire, Max Payne and Midnight Rush flopped sales wise. What's the point of releasing small games?

Get everyone working on the big games. Even without GTA online. GTA V sold 15 million last year. Everyone who buys a new console heads straight for GTA.

15 million is more than any other small project they release would manage. That's actually more than RDR sales.

You are just speculating and blaming GTA online too much. When in reality they could just release another GTA with GTA online easily. I'm glad they are taking their times with their games now.

Well, it sounds like it'll have a full battle royale mode for starters. It'll be full of microtranactions (horse, character, gun customization).

"Games like LA Noire, Max Payne and Midnight Rush flopped sales wise. What's the point of releasing small games?"

LA Noire and Midnight Club never flopped and sold beyond expectations. Also why is releasing small games a bad thing? They add vairety and are much better with what they do compared to GTA5 for example.

"Get everyone working on the big games. Even without GTA online. GTA V sold 15 million last year. Everyone who buys a new console heads straight for GTA."

You are looking at it wrong. The main thing bringing them money for less work is cash cards.

"You are just speculating and blaming GTA online too much. When in reality they could just release another GTA with GTA online easily. I'm glad they are taking their times with their games now."

I am blaming GTA Online because it is the main reason so many shitty things happened to GTA 5 with things like SP dlc getting cancelled and because it is the reason we never get unique games like Midnight Club, Bully or even LA Noire sequel. We got most of those last gen and GTA in 5 years unlike now where we had a Medicare SP game with huge micro transactions focused MP game mode.

They're probably going to have it release end of the gen so they can make you buy it second time for next gen. It doesn't make sense to do anything else. They'd just cannibalize themselves.

They kinda don't really need to make any more at this point. GTA V is just an amazingly constant stream of money that's showing no signs of slowing down.

You make more games because your games run their course fairly quickly, but what happens when that course is seemingly never-ending like in GTA V's case? You don't make more I guess.

Single player DLC was cancelled because the last one didn't meet sales expectations.

Again Rockstar have thousands of employees. There's probably 1% of that working on GTA online. What GTA online allows them to do is not rush their projects, something which you don't seem to grasp. Nobody will be moaning if RDR 2 has a long meaty single player campaign.

Max Payne 3 sold 3 million last gen. That's not really a lot considering take two have been pissed at games like Mafia for selling the same amount.

LA Noire was never made by Rockstar. Then you had the issues with what was happening behind the scenes regarding the development.

Bully didn't release originally last gen. It came out for the PS2 and was a simple port to the 360.

Rockstar have gone a new direction now. They merged all their studios to work on one big project now. Not sure why you can't understand that?

"Single player DLC was cancelled because the last one didn't meet sales expectations."

Wrong it was in the works but they cancelled it and stripped it down and made it an online dlc.

"Again Rockstar have thousands of employees. There's probably 1% of that working on GTA online. What GTA online allows them to do is not rush their projects, something which you don't seem to grasp. Nobody will be moaning if RDR 2 has a long meaty single player campaign. "

That is what I am saying in my other posts. The only difference is that we got meaty single player beforehand.

"Max Payne 3 sold 3 million last gen. That's not really a lot considering take two have been pissed at games like Mafia for selling the same amount."

I am talking about the other games which did sell well beyond the expectations. MP3 was the only one that bombed.

"LA Noire was never made by Rockstar. Then you had the issues with what was happening behind the scenes regarding the development."

So?
They could still do the same thing this gen but they never do.

"Bully didn't release originally last gen. It came out for the PS2 and was a simple port to the 360."

I know.

"Rockstar have gone a new direction now. They merged all their studios to work on one big project now. Not sure why you can't understand that?"

If GTA Online didn't exist we would still get the meaty single player games as well but even more of them.

new GTA announcement depends on how well RDR 2 does; if RDR does well with it's online component, then they will probably announce it later than sooner; Also I think GTA is gonna be a new-console gen exclusive since GTA 5 already has this on lockdown and they don't want to split up the community cannibalize their own sales
