I dug some Warrant tunes like Cherry Pie lol. Uncle Tom's Cabin was good too. Which I just picked up Slave to the Grind and their self titled plus Dr Feelgood again myself. What sucks is that I traded all this off years ago and just recently picked it all back up again. Still kicking myself... Eventually I'm going to get all the Crue stuff through Feelgood. Don't believe I've ever owned anything but that one even though I've heard them a million times.

Speaking of old music, I've also dove into Motorhead and Priest with Ace of Spades, Stained Class, Screaming for Vengeance, and Defenders of the Faith. I may have owned one Motorhead album years ago but the only Priest I've ever owned was Painkiller. The music isn't my norm, but definitely kicks ass. Really glad to be exploring all the music I grew up with but never actually owned. Plus the not hit stuff is better than I expected.

New Zeal & Ardor is fucking sublime. Definitely going to compete with AOTY for me.

As much as I really loved Devil is Fine this does kind of make that feel a bit like a demo. This has better production and more integrated styling of blues/gospel and black metal. Absolutely amazing listen. Can't get enough.

New YOB is crushing.
Fantastic release -- some really emotional jams in here.

Can't wait to see these guys live again with Bell Witch in a few weeks.

Agreed. Album is incredible. My only gripe is that I felt that near the end I wanted them to wrap it up. So it might be a song or two long, or it could be that I'm used to short albums lately. But still, AOTY material.

The Land
Man this is nice

That rumbling bass is killer. Have always heard him sing "Star Destroyer!" instead of shortest straw

Going through that user's remasters now, some pretty cool stuff. Especially Shortest Straw, that is the sound right there. Nailed it.

Thanks for sharing, it's been a long time since I've revisited some of these tracks.

edit: After listening to the AJFA remix/remaster... I can see why they would have dropped that fader. The bass takes a lot of the teeth out of the chugs. There's like no oomph to the riff at the beginning of the song with the bass ringing out.

Kind of curious to know if anyone around here has heard the Tiluland album "Axes of the Universe"?

They're a bunch of rad instrumentals and it's a bummer that they didn't make another album, as far as I know.

I hadn't heard of them, but I'm loving this right now. It has a lot of virtuosity but doesn't go overboard with it.

The three-part epic reminded me of how much I miss classic Symphony X.

The Key rules. Excellent riffing with a lot of thrash undertones. Too bad the follow up albums & eps suck.

latest

Bonus: Also one of the ugliest looking bands.
Not seeing the ugliness? The 80's hairstyles are kinda funny, but I've seen much worse lol. Straight woman here btw.

And yes that album is godly.

Huh. Don't really care much about them but it does seem like an odd stance since (I think) they cover Varg/Burzum and Faust/Emperor.
Metalsucks has never been consistent or shown to have any kind of integrity whatsoever. You can freely disregard pretty much everything they say or do.

Bought that Morta Skuld recently so haven't had a chance to really digest it yet, but I dig it so far. Finally got Blessed are the Sick too. Oh...and a pretty sizeable stack of other stuff. Kind of went a bit overboard actually. I regret nothing lol.

Just going to say I hate the new trend of youtube listening to metal and "reacting" to it. Lost in Vegas guys are charismatic but it drives me fucking MAD with them stopping the song all the time, and now with other copycats doing it, ugh, just listen to the fucking song all the way.

Nobody in real life listens to a song and pauses it continuously throughout, give an authentic reaction after playing the whole thing. Sorry haha, watched some asswipe pause Holy Wars every 30 seconds and it was making me hate life

Exactly my thoughts. Drives me up the wall. I would prefer if they listened to the song once through and then did a listen where they stop and comment on riffs, solos, etc. It would give any new listeners the chance to also react without undue influence.

Right, everything needs a damn reaction video now. Can you imagine having a first spin of Spectrum of Death and during Damien some dickwad stops 30 seconds into the song and start on about "Wow, this is intense brah" He'd get his ass proper slammed to the floor

Lost in vegas is pretty much the only reaction channel I watch. They actually listen to the stuff with an open mind. The reason they stop it all the time is due to copyright stuff, I believe. As in, they would get flagged if they listened throughout the whole song and in one sitting.

Yea the Vegas guys have a certain charm and love for music. I see the other channels pop up and those just look annoying. Which brings me to the YouTube recommendations and how annoying they are. You watch one reaction video and it blasts you with all the clones. I've told it I don't want to see Varg's channel several times but one black metal video later...he's back. I also follow a few metalheads but it manages to recommend garbage channels like them and I have to go manually find the ones I like. Its kind of a weird thing to see what it recommends because I get some weird shit come up. Though I will admit, some of it can be cool.

If that is the reason then I understand, still stupid as hell. I guess people can digest music in bits and pieces like that. Just think when ads get Smart to people finding enjoyment that way and placing quick ads ever 20 seconds of a song

Yeah, I agree. They would probably have different opinions on some songs if they'd listen to it without interruptions. Kinda hard to get back to the groove with constant pauses. I guess the alternative would be to listen to it in full and the edit in the comments and pauses, but that would probably look really stupid.

As for the ads thing, just imagine: "lemme pause here aand give a quick comment, but first a word from our sponsors!" *tide ad begins to play* I'd hit close pretty frigging fast.

Favourite death metal album, hmm... either something by Bolt Thrower (almost anything of theirs would qualify), or Luciferion - Demonication (The Manifest) for me.

I never heard of this Vegas thing and I'm gonna be an old woman yelling at cloud here but learning that what you just described here is even a thing is making me hate life, too. Why....

The Lost in Vegas channel is pretty good tho. They listen, read the lyrics, try to understand the song and seem to be honest in their reactions. They do fall into some copyright issues and sometimes have to take a video down and re edit to satisfy copyright holders.

If they are giving more exposure to metal and influencing others to check out metal, so be it imo.

So I am not too learned in the ways of metal, although I do listen to several records.

I enjoy some Mastodon, Meshuggah, Opeth, Nile, Gorguts, Wormed, Pallbearer, Tyrant of Death...

In particular, I have been obsessed with this new Slugdge album. Like, on repeat constantly. I also love their previous work, but haven't listened to it as much. Are there other bands comparable to their style (or mix of styles)?

I love heavy and Snakes for the Divine from High on Fire covers that nicely. Don't think I will ever forget how I found this band. Someone on the old site said something about liking the mellower tunes more than their faster material, which the faster stuff is definitely my interest so I gave them a shot. Snakes was the first song I heard in fact. So here we are. Enjoy!

One that came to mind almost immediately which is not talked about much is Anciients

Opeth - When

Controversial pick maybe. I have been revisiting the first few Opeth albums recently and kind of remembering how much I like them. It's almost weird to say but I feel like some of Opeth's albums, especially the early ones, are pretty underrated as melodic death metal albums. I've seen a lot of hate for them these days, especially here and the old place. Aside from these first 3 albums, I have a big soft spot for Ghost Reveries too. Since then though, I didn't like Watershed at all and listened to Heritage once and hated it. Not enjoying at all where they are at now but these first 3 albums are still pretty wonderful.

Didn't the old site vote Opeth as the favorite metal band once? Controversial to the vocal haters, probably.

Classic Opeth is awesome.
