Waypoint's Twitter feed makes me feel old as hell. I, like, legit don't understand even half of the memes. Sometimes, I just can't make that transition in my head from something dead serious like "I don't trust David Cage to tackle domestic violence" to whatever "MOM TURN MY XBOX BACK ON" is about.

It just kinda makes me take them less seriously. I dunno, maybe that's what they're going for?

Let them have fun. It's not like it takes anything away from the serious articles. Besides, you don't see it on the site.

If I wanted just plain old dry video game twitters I would just follow IGN. Waypoint being the weird, quirky website it is made me a big fan. You go from going philosophical on a video game to talking about PUBG strats to get that chicken dinner. If they lose that quirkiness then they are just another selfsame video game website trying to eat at the table.

Was that particular tweet a little juvenile? Sure. Was it a little unnecessary? I guess so. In the end it was just a little bantz that made me smile.

Stay weird Waypoint

edit: I went and looked at IGN's twitter, pls don't change Waypoint.

My Twitter feed is the definition of the intersectionality of serious social and political issues and shitposting so I'm precisely in their demo

Don't get me wrong. I love their actual content. I don't follow IGN/Gamespot or most other sites really. It's just the Twitter feed that throws me off, and, only because I simply don't get the majority of their jokes.

Again, maybe I'm just old.

It's just absurdist shitposting. Nothing to get. You either think it's funny or you don't. I'm in the pro column.

What I like about the Waypoint staff is that they take video games as works seriously, but don't take themselves seriously at all.

Podcast was great. Those xcom stories. That discussion about madden!

Austin walker is truly the best thing to come pop up in the games press side of things in ages.

Hope they do non game stuff more as well. Blade runner spoiler cast was great! Maybe waypoint 101 for like a tv show or mech anime or something?

I have zero interest in UFC but the podcast with the fighter was pretty interesting. I like when they get people from outside of games in to talk with them, I hope they can do more of that.

Interesting discussion about that madden story mode. Still crossing my fingers that they'll try their hand at and NHL story mode one of these years.

Austin and Rob have really great chemistry -- I think it's actually the one grouping where Austin doesn't fully take over the conversation (although he should still cede the floor to Rob more often). It doesn't hurt that Rob is an expert at remote podcasting.

I like Austin always provide backgrounds and knowledge for any topic they're discussing. As someone who does not follow American Football at all, I can still understand the Madden conversation fully, which is great.

Rob is just ridiculously articulate about his experience playing games and referencing how they're designed to other games. I'm not joking when I say 3MA is maybe my favorite gaming podcast for exactly this reason. I want more Rob Zacny in everything

I'm really enjoying their Blade Runner spoilercast. I hope there are more pods like that in the future!

Finally found this thread, so now I can report the hottest Woopcast .mp3 shenanigans:

Episode 110's mp3 direct link goes directly to the Nick Robinson episode, Ep 86.
I would listen to Austin and Rob spend an hour discussing wallpaper paste
Yes.

A thousand times yes.

I love Rob's presence so much. He always has something interesting to say, and the topics he brings up are always fascinating, entertaining, or a mix of both. He's just great. (I've actually been wondering where he was on the 'pod, but it's apparent he's back now so it's alll good.)

Huzzah for Waypoint!

Adam Conover is on this Friday's episode and they're talking Dark Souls.

Best episode confirmed.

Yeah that Waypoint Radio about Xcom 2 and Madden was phenomenal. I could listen to those 2 dudes talk about just about anything, probably.

Austin's critique of that Longshot story mode was so good, I'm so glad to have an outlet where something messy like that can really be appreciated for what it is and critiqued for what it isn't.

they've hit a really good groove ya'll i've been enjoying every single episode over the last three weeks or so and their guest lineup is killer, people who don't intersect with my day to day but who are nonetheless hella good guests

Yeah the blend of the goofiest fun times + real talks about the real world... just a good balance + the crossovers with their fam over at giantbomb.

Waypoint feels more like the darker more interesting netflix marvel stuff compare to the more family friendly and safe films, except good.

A suggestion Patrick Klepek if you can pass along, but could the podcast editor embed a link to interesting articles/posts mentioned in a podcast in the shownotes? The site isn't the easiest to navigate, especially if I'm catching up on a few in the past. Think austin was talking about some motherboard articles that I just couldn't find from searching lol.

Waypoint has been on fire lately. I was skeptical of the new Friday podcast paradigm, but the guest appearances have all fostered some great conversations. Perhaps this is the avenue through which my #1 most wanted podcast crossover of Austin Walker x Idle Thumbs will be realized (#1 since Patrick has already been on their show).

I've been finally digging into Waypoint's content the past few weeks, and being a GB subscriber for years hearing Austin and Patrick (I remember listening to him back in the 1UP days, christ even podcasts are making me feel old now) so it had an immediate comfort level but Rob, Danielle, Danika have all been great too. I really appreciate Waypoint producing podcasts, think-pieces, a gaming website in general, that tries to take a different approach and shows bravery in tackling tough issues head-on but in a way that is empathetic and feels like it always at least tries to address the why rather than just the how.

I'm sure the internet being the internet they get plenty of backlash for having the gall to stick their heads above the parapet, but I think what they're doing is totally cool. Great to see.

Now that I'm finally playing Zelda I took a look at the permadeath series. Is part 7 just lost to the void? I checked twitch and didn't find it. Shame, I really enjoyed that series.

Only just found out about the Vice thing prior to listening to the podcast.

I'll be real. Not surprised by the attitude Vice exudes in a lot of their work.
