Gonna take me a while to get used to this Dante. After DMC3, he was never known to be a scruffy dresser so I'm wondering if it's just the art style direction or will it be a consequence of the time the game is set in.

From the blog.

Utterly Insane Action

However, Nero is not alone in this fight. Our gameplay announcement trailer above focuses on Nero and his new set of tricks, but Devil May Cry 5 will feature 3 playable characters, with their own unique over-the-top playstyles and flair.

I guess we will get to play Nero, Dante and Vergil. If you zoom in on the walpaper you can see his sword.

As for the third guy on the cover, remember that Vergil had a sleeveless alternate costume in DMC3:

Just sayin'. I think it's probably a new character, though.

What happened to DMC games with Dante as the protagonist? To me, the mechanical arm/weapon game play mechanic is tired and uninspiring, what's worse is its being used in From Software's SDT already.

So the game is several years after DMC4, the whereabouts of Dante are unknown, and Dante is on a motorcycle. Is the game finally set after DMC2?

Wow, people are really upset about this and insisting it's like DmC? They went more realistic than anime, but the aesthetic couldn't remind me less of Ninja Theory's sensibilities (and neither the faces nor the models themselves looked anywhere near as good in that). As for Nero, minus the clothes, the robot arm, and the new haircut (liked the older one better myself, but eh), same old Nero I'd say. If anything most people forget that DmC Dante was always closer to a Nero knockoff than any version of Dante anyway. Combat looks nothing like DmC, either.

As someone who hated DmC, I can't really side with anyone down on this.

Nero has a free license to look like that there's no stopping him.
Also really throwing it out there but third guy looks like Gene from Godhand

This is exactly the shake up DMC needed after a 10 year absence.

It doesn't look like a Katana. And the leak says he uses "demonic bodyguards" which doesn't really match with Vergil.

What the hell happened to the character designs. :S
Nero looks like white haired Donte, Dante went from hot uncle to weed smoking biker...

As a guy who hasn't liked the series' artstyle since DMC1, some of ya'll are feeling my pain. lol

And I feel pretty confident that 3rd character isn't Vergil who I think is likely the main villain again.

Yes!!! Exactly what I asked for, for them not to ignore Nero. He was amazing in DMC4. Love how the characters look and I especially love how Dante looks in the gamersyde trailer

I find it odd that some are hung up on the character designs when they've changed with every release. I'm just glad DMC is back with Itsuno at the helm.

Itsuno literally said that on stage.

Then going forward I'd rather they didn't. If this was a new character I'd be set but as a more "photorealistic" Nero, it's rubbing me the wrong way. The close up shot of him makes him look like he has a caveman forehead.

On paper it sounds like it's going to be amazing. Just need that initial whiplash of art style change to settle in.

The actual action looks fantastic, but dear god, that art style. Getting used to this is gonna be hard.
