It's nothing to doing with "western" people, whatever that means. They typically don't look like natural humans at all, it's usually a stylization approach.
Sometimes I find it awkward as hell if the art direction is inconsistent or the game doesn't push that boundary on a technical level.

yes, they are emulating westerners who are more interested in realism, not anime based styles that japan likes. it has everything to do with western appeal

I can't believe people are complaining when we have so little information at this point and we've finally gotten confirmation after 10 fucking years. The die-hards know how hard the wait has been, and it's been too long.

It isn't anime style so people are automatically equating it to DmC and how they're chasing the western look, whatever the fuck that means.

I mean, Joel will probably look different in TLOU2 as a result of the closer push to photorealism. It's not inherently a problem unless you were literally expecting a sequel coming out 10 years later to still retain anime art direction for the models.

Of course I was expecting a sequel to a game that purposely didn't aim for photorealism back then, not to do that now. We're going to pretend photorealism didn't exist back then? Or that it's the only way visuals can progress now? I'm glad PlatinumGames didn't get the memo, then.

Anyone else notice that the Capcom Unity blog post removed the info about Nero's battle theme "Devil Trigger" being composed by Ali Edwards, and it supposed to have been released now on digital music stores?

Tetsuya Shibata best not have gotten the boot because I was seriously not a fan of the music in the trailer.

Yep exactly. I thought they renounced this design but they came back to it and even make him older.

That's fine. Considering it looked better than his final design

I'm getting some Injustice 2 vibes, not just because of the high quality of the faces, but also because of the weird response to them.
I don't know why but people just wouldn't shut up about how ugly they thought faces looked in all the material leading up to the game's release. Those are some of the best faces in any game ever.

Holy shit. I lost all hope that I would ever see DmC2 but I end up getting it from Devil May Cry 5. The irony is so fucking hilarious.

Hyped.

It was a slow burn. It wasn't what I was expecting, but it's really grown on me. I'm officially hyped.

Yep.

I've been playing since DMC1, SSS'd DMC 3+4 on DMD, and I shrieked with joy when this trailer played.

All the characters just look like higher resolution, more detailed, more realistic and less anime-stylized versions of their DMC4 selves.

People just saw the short hair and got triggered by memories of the abhorrent DmC garbo

It'll pass

DMC is back, baby

I want anime Capcom back RE7 and DMC5 are both lacking in fun and character. Excited for the game though. The visual style feels like selling out the core audience who will buy it because they are already fans and appealing to the anti anime fans who liked how DmC looked.

Did anyone say that? I think the idea is to remove the anime in everything they can, while still being an anime game at heart. I like this approach, because it looks like a Hollywood movie I'd actually want to see.

I think the anime art flourishes of the prior games weakened the action and cutscenes a bit. When I see Nico spinning around in a van, catching a cigarette in her mouth, it looks like an insane stunt.

Ugh. On one hand I actually like the art direction in this game. I liked DmC so I'm glad it's kind of closer to that.

On the other hand I'm a huge anime fan and hate it when it's used like a negative in posts like this. On principal I usually hate it when series go for a more realistic art direction. I'm always on team stylized.

I just think Capcom made it work in this instance but I'm still conflicted.

Sure, he'll look more realistic. But given how ND has knocked it out of the park with their very natural aging and stylistic changes to Ellie, Drake, Elena, Sully, etc... I have very high confidence in them compared to Capcom, who just seem to be trying to follow a trend they aren't particularly specialized in, and whose games aren't particularly suited to.

I think Nero looks great, he literally has the exact hairstyle I imagined he would have to differentiate himself from Dante.

Grandpa Dante though......hope it's just that angle

Graphics wise I can't complain facial, animations and graphics look great. The design can be debatable among many.

Stylish action is what this game series is about just look at the animations, for most hardcore people the coat of painting should be irrelevant. 60fps goodness, Dante being dumb.
Eye popping visuals can be a thing for a "Character Action Game" where have i seen that before oh wait..
OH NO GUYS Bayonetta is getting erased from history.

I didn't like DmC's art direction (I liked it even less than 1, 3, and 4), and I'm pretty big into this. DmC was oversatured, gauche, and extremely on the nose. I don't think V looks similar. I don't think anime is a net negative. I just think this is a refreshing approach, because you always see this slick shit in anime games. This is like AAA big budget, so it's kind of like "what the hell am I looking at?!" It's a nice feeling.

Wait a second...

Is Nero using his own arm as a ridable rocket?

Devil-May-Cry-5_2018_06-10-18_014.jpg

How can you hate on this game. How can you.

Dude....... I don't know what to say other than can I have this now. This game taking place post DMC2 makes sense and hell maybe it would explain how Vergil is back since Dante got out of there. My only hope is that I can play with Dante from the very beginning since while I do want to play with Nero I want to go through the game with Dante first.

So the cloaked undead figure cutting Nero's arm is 99% Vergil who wants to reclaim his son's arm. I think may be this made him become the new character when revived. Who knows.

I don't really get the DmC comparisons it looks like continuation from DMC4 it's cheesy and over the top which is how I want my DMC.

The only mechanic I hated and don't want to return is the revving. That shit was terrible and really interrupted the flow of combat.
