It could be Yamato sealed within it. It could be that when Virgil came out of the Nelo Angelo form he was missing limbs, as we can see Virgil afix Nero's arm into his own right elbow.

But Reuben Langdon & Dan Southworth actually do the motion capture for Dante & Vergil.

He was never confirmed dead. He was just under Mundus' control. That probably was shattered after his defeat in DMC1 where he disappears. It's always been left open, but most of us don't see that as a death. What he's been doing since then, who knows. He's clearly scarred/corrupt though. Maybe they'll take a leaf from the novels with the whole "Gilver" alias. Or, he just wants his freakin' sword back, since it's rightfully his, technically (gift from Sparda) and wreck shit!

The hype is real. Style issues aside, it looks good. Gameplay resembles DMC4 more than DmC, music is super hot, and so is Nero. Dante looks like he crashed into the ugly tree though. He's not supposed to look like a grungy old man. Pls lose the scraggly facial hair.
DMC3 is the game that should have pulled you in.
Technically, even their haircut is the same, Vergil just sweeps his back sometimes. During the duel in the rain in DMC3 his hair gets wet and it ends up looking identical to Dante's before he fixes it.
