I dunno why saying this feels like GTA is a bad thing, it's actually a massive compliment. GTA V has maybe the most realistic feeling open world, it genougly feels like a real living city unlike 99% of other open world games.

That shit looks very GTA V, which again, is a massive compliment. It's actually feels like a real location and not just something that looks like it was copied and pasted from hundreds of other corners in a video game.

This shot also does a great job at making the city feel real and lived in.

At :09 seconds in the trailer, "GAME ENGINE FOOTAGE" is displayed in the bottom right corner.

We will either see gameplay or have YouTubers give some loose details about what they played I imagine. When asked about gameplay or release date, CDPR rep responded that "e3 isn't over yet ;)"

some youtubers have confirmed they were invited to private sessions to play the game

If Sony snagged exclusive gameplay trailer or something then they win E3

It seems like 2006 all over again. Why are people so excited about a CGi trailer? Wake me up in 2077 when games actually look like that.

This is not a CGI trailer. There is clearly in game assets here. I've played The Witcher 3 four times and you can clearly notice in the trailer that this game is using the Red Engine. There even is an NPC disappearing in the trailer.

Whether it could be downgraded or not? Perhaps, but this is not CGI.

Edit: Zoom in to check the buildings details more clearly, that is ingame assets at least

It's not CGI! Come on if that was CGI, then they hired a really bad studio (and they never do, remember the Witcher CGI trailers?). That was definitely in-engine and it looks good! They nailed the look of a sunny day in a dystopian mega-city. You all expected Blade Runner but that's not what Cyberpunk 2077 is about.

Looks great, wish the trailer wasn't CGI though...j/j :)

I may finally go next (current) gen if this pans out to be great.

It does look like a shift in tone from the initial trailer but still seem extremely interesting imo. I cant wait to play it. There's still a chance that the events from that first trailer will be in the final game, anyways. We've barely seen anything guys.

Most people saying it looks like GTA are saying that because of the aesthetics and satire vibes they got from the trailer, which is sad. Basically they see punks in a bright-fun futuristic open world game.

I don't understand the need for him to do this - comes across as petty

Yeah neuromancer is a bonafide cyberpunk classic, but what is this mans experience in gaming?

Lastly it's weird to see a 70 year old reference GTA, but I suppose that's why I'm asking the first question about his experience in gaming

Any news on whether this is still only first person shooter?

This game will lose so much of its potential if it does not have some elements of third person in it.

The trailer has me intrigued, but I m not jumping out of my seat at the moment.

When in the trailer does the NPC disappear or pop in? I'm trying to find it but I can't. I did notice that when the CD Projekt Red titlecard appears a vehicle in the background goes under shadow but remains partially lit. That's all I could spot though.

I think that's part of why people are making that comparison.

Would it be controversial to say that most open world fantasy RPGs don't feel lived-in or like "real" places? And I think the trailers reflect that. Compare the gameplay footage trailer for Skyrim compared to that first trailer for GTA V that I posted earlier. Skyrim is presented as epic, as about you and your adventure, even the shots of the world are presented as awe-inspiring and beautiful. While GTA V's trailer presents its world through a more...detached lens, presenting different social and cultural stratas of its setting, different places and peoples in the world doing everyday things.

We've never really had an RPG set in a world designed like the latter IMO. Witcher 3 did achieve a lot of that naturalistic atmosphere in its world, such as how the civilization was spaced out and the gradual progression from tiny hamlets to the sprawling crowded alleys of Novigrad. But even then, I'd say the world never felt as lived-in and believable as Los Santos did as a digital space

Also don't get why he dunks on the visuals of a trailer when he should know that cyberpunk is about concepts and themes. I mean he writes books. He should know that shit. Seems petty, indeed. Especially since Mike Pondsmith, a big figure in SciFi/Cyberpunk history is involved.

Because some people were expecting something more distinctive, especially going by the first trailer. This looks like GTA V with some Cyberpunk paint over.

The difference in tone is weird compared to reveal trailer.

I am sure it will be good though. But yeah... J am a little big disappointed. I wanted something more Blade Runner-ish.

I know a few old people who know about games. But It kinda seems like he's complaining that it's not "generic" looking Cyberpunk. I don't really understand why he's thinking this way. But I thought his take on it was funny.

Idk I just love cyberpunk in general

Originality doesn't matter? He's right, this trailer is a collection of clichés and derivative designs... it just so happens that they're some of my favorite clichés, so I'm more than okay with it. I wouldn't want anything to do with this game if it was aping other popular aesthetics.

Pondsmith's Cyberpunk is about looking cool. It's hella superficial. This is seriously its #1 rule:

The vibe of the trailer is lighthearted... What resembles more Ready Player One than Blade Runner, and it seems many people were expecting the latter. I personally am ok with any outcome. It will be a good game, regardless. Just hope the shooting and combat is serviceable.......

There was a overwhelming focus on action?
Yeah. The way the trailer was cut, the feeling conveyed by it, the events depicted were mostly that of action - not contemplation, introspection, conversation, and so on. I don't necessarily mean bullet-strewn violence, but I do mean action. Action can also consist of people's heads blowing up from some cyberspace hack or fighting a robot dummy in a boxing ring, not just shooting guns. The moments that weren't action packed seemed to exist only to add context to the action and serve as worldbuilding, and not the other way around. Like, I look at these gifs and it tells me what I can probably do in this game: shoot guns, hack into cyberspace and shortcircuit people from across the room, etc.

I'm not saying this looks bad! It looks like it could be really fun! I just hope we see more on what sort of quests we'll have and the actual pace of the game, since we can't really gleam much about what that actual pace is like from the trailer alone.

A cyberpunk GTA with complex RPG elements is pretty much my dream game of all times.

So if this is what Cyberpunk 2077 turns out to be that would be a dream come true.

I do know how to pick them!

What does "Cyberpunk paint" even mean?

Honestly, these comments just show how much Blade Runner has become so synonymous with cyberpunk to the point of being detrimental in some ways, when the genre is so much more than the rainy gloomy neo-noir style of Blade Runner but people only understand and expect it to look like Blade Runner

Blade Runner is noir detective thriller first and foremost, the rain, the lighting, the gloom, grimy detective story all harken back to classic noir trappings. But that isn't all cyberpunk is as a genre. Cyberpunk the RPG is more representative of the cyberpunk genre as a whole than Blade Runner's noir-inspired facet of cyberpunk

It would be like expecting all science fiction to look like Star Wars or all sci-fi horror to have the same aesthetic as Alien, and then being disappointed when Arrival or The Expanse or The Thing or The Fly doesn't have the same designs and look as those other movies.

Yeah I know. But that's in-game and not on the meta level. Those punks do look cool. Everyone is stylish. It's just that Gibson dunking on this trailer bc of world aesthetics feels very unprofessional and uncool.

I think there's a bit of double standards going on here. The CGI teaser everyone keeps talking about starts off with action/violence. It's consistent here.

It's true that it's just a first impression based on not much, but it is at least interesting that it's by William Gibson. The guy who wrote the book on cyberpunk with Neuromancer etc. Even though he's likely wrong here, it's interesting and kind of funny I guess that one of the people who's work gave rise to the term cyberpunk isn't enamored with the game.

That said, I'm enamored with it. Since I know it's by these guys who made Witcher 2 and other fine games (my way of saying Witcher 3 is still on my backlog), did love Witcher 2. And I love sci-fi, and this should be a good time. And I love GTA too, but I don't think this'll play too much like GTA.

It's not CGI! Come on if that was CGI, then they hired a really bad studio (and they never do, remember the Witcher CGI trailers?). That was definitely in-engine and it looks good! While I like the look, and I'm sure the game will have night scenes too. I'm not sure what you mean there, since when you google the game this is based on, Cyperpunk 2020, the cover looks very much inspired by Blade Runner. And Blade Runner is a big influence on cyberpunk aesthetic, especially for cyberpunk anime etc. Not that it has to look like that film, since that also has film noir in the mix etc, but I guess that's so far considered the textbook example of the look of cyberpunk.

So... is this next-gen? The ambition behind it seems high, and given that Phil talked about the next-door being deep in development, as well as Todd Howard announcing two next-gen games, it wouldn't be out of the question.

I was referring to day/night cycle. It was clear that this game will not just have night time.
