This game took some many stylistic choices from DmC, and that makes me happy.

Also, it looks like they altered the jumping physic. It's no longer a static humping arch, and I dare say it looks like there's no lock-on.
UI is turned off so there's no visible lock-on marker.

It looks like Nero is fighting the scythe wielding Seven Deadly Sins enemies from DMC3.

They even look to be made of sand like the ones from DMC3.

Trust me I did a lot of double takes on the trailer and yelled many "what the fucks" too. Not in that discord chat, I missed it but watching it live I had similar feelings. Once I got more information on the game and watched the trailer again a few times I started getting hyped again. DMC fans in general react very poorly to anything that even remotely resembles DmC lol!
Honestly people are going to come around to this. I'm loving what I'm seeing, I think it looks better than I envisioned.

It's just that the hate against DmC was so overblown that now it is leaking into DMC5 because they thought it was going to be a middle finger going full-on anime style. Still, I don't think DMC5 is remotely similar to DmC even visually, I think they're using their own style that fits the engine and their needs.

We just have people who doesn't even know what they want from DMC except being a reactionary answer for DmC. I'm glad Itsuno is doing HIS vision and not just a "haha fuck DmC, here's DMC3-2"

I think this is why many DMC fans esp the discord overreacted to the initial reveal. The photorealistic graphics threw everyone off. I think most fans, myself included, are still stuck right after DMC4, where Dante left us, but Itsuno and capcom has moved past that and acting like the 10 years has already happened. This was the biggest shock for fans.

Honestly we didn't know what to expect after 10 years of absence and the initial knee jerk reaction is no surprise, not to mention Nero's new short haircut, the muted yet crisp colors etc being a departure from the gothic/victorian style.

But its safe to say after digesting the trailer, and catching up to Itsuno, I feel like everyone is on board with the project.
Itsuno looked directly into the camera, to the fans, veered into our souls and said....

"You aint seen shit yet!"

God damn I love me some cocky Itsuno!

You know the game is gonna be legendary when Itsuno, one of the most humblest devs out there, says so...

Damn he actually cried after revealing DMCV??

And here I thought I wasnt gonna cry...

Those definitely look like reworked DMC3-inspired demons.

Also, I didn't have an issue with the city environments in the trailer, but they're looking a bit bland in the gameplay footage...hopefully this isn't representative of what the bulk of the game has to offer; like DMC3's opening.
The initial fight in a neon setting is a bit of a turn off, but the hell pride fights with the lighting from the lamp post look amazing.

This looks a lot like DmC -_-'

The moves are literally from DMC4...

Holy shit the Inside Xbox footage is pure hype. And Itsuno's excitement is contagious!

It definitely seems that Nero can on the fly swap between different types of Devil Breakers. It's his version of Style switching. Don't know how many you can equip at once, there is even a picture of him having a second arm behind him while he is surfing another one.

Also quite a lot of DmC influences in there. Ricoshot like move, slow down after finishing a fight and altered jump arc/movement. This is good because more quality of life changes are always welcome.

Lock-on is absolutely there.

Its in the trailer when Nero dodges the attack from a boss, the roll is lock-on related

Not the first time they took influence from DmC's gameplay, either.

itsuno looked so excited and proud to show off the game. For good reason too as the gameplay looked fantastic.

I get the feeling that this is going to be something truly special.

I feel his sincerity as well. They're making something that will leave a mark.

I know they are adding a bunch of tools to Nero's arsenal with the Devil Breakers but right now Nero's combat is feeling quite a lot like DMC4.5. Or rather it feels like the complete character that Nero should have been in DMC4. There aren't enough changes at the fundamental levels from what I can see. For most DMC fans this isn't a problem but for new players we are going to have to same issues as before where they are going to get bogged down by the control schemes and actions. They seem to be keeping the same lock on dodge system from DMC1 (bleh). Like you could have transplanted this Nero in DMC4 and no one would have batted an eye. But of course Nero is just one piece of the puzzle and we simple don't know enough but my initial impression is that the game play and combat is veering on the safe side. Yeah there are DmC flourishes here and there but they don't fundamentally alter much, they are just extra bells and whistles.

Also before anyone brings up that DMCV is some how slower than DMC4:

It's the same exact speed as DMC4. It just goes to show how essential Turbo mode is to have as a default option because we are all so used to it by now.

What do you think about his comments about animations looking off? I certainly noted it, but probably is the fact video is 30fps instead of 60fps.

Who's comments? The animations are ripped straight from DMC4. They are fine, they aren't like DmC.

I don't think it's the animations that look off, I think it's that there is less visual flair because of the whole photorealistic look. There is also more exaggerated hit stop in this, enemies react more to attacks.

guyz if Nero has this much variety with the devil breakers... imagine maximum uncle Dante's moveset...

I bet Nero's levels are more punk while Dante's is gonna be victorian/gothic

The environments look like an updated version of DMC3's city environments to me

Same, or a riff on DMC4's city environments, especially the boss battle they showed off. I don't know where people are seeing anything DmC about them...or any of this tbh.

Nero doesn't look like Donte unless short hair is enough. He doesn't look exactly the same I'll give folks that, but I could still see it was Nero from frame 1.

Sidenote unrelated to the quote, but I've seen complaints about Dante's look in the trailer. He doesn't even look like that in the key art. And you'd look rough too if you'd spent several years trapped in hell.

It's kinda blowing my mind that DMCV has better graphics than RE2. How did that happen.
