I said it in the gaming podcast thread, but I wanted to say it again. That episode with Manveer Heir shook me up and got me excited for what he's working on next! Suuuuch a good, insightful episode. Waypoint were already my #1, but they somehow skyrocketed even further with that.
That was possibly the best episode I had listened to since their inception.

As someone who's followed Waypoint from the beginning, I really enjoy where the Waypoint podcast menu has found itself now with the Monday/Friday split format and also 101's focus on individual games. I just caught up on WR episodes and that Manveer interview was something special.

Also after listening to Monday's podcast about GAF, too, I just wanted to chime in that I think Danielle's great, I like listening to her talk about everything from MMA to Prey, and I'm sorry I didn't say so earlier in the other thread.

Gotta say I really do not enjoy hearing someone read out their own review. Didn't do anything for me when Austin indulges in it, and Patrick reading his own review doesn't either.

Listening to the most recent Waypoint podcast now. It's interesting to hear their perspectives on gaf from the inside and the outside.

Hopefully resetera can do better for the people on the left Austin was talking about who also hated it.

What up, people?

Finally got around to the Manveer interview. How the hell was he allowed to say half of what he did?

I need more real shit like that in my interviews. Good job, Danielle and Austin.

I checked out their latest podcast and really liked it. They all seem really nice and they had a very well spoken and well thought out discussion.

It's true that it's easy to yell at things and be dismissive about games and game industry figures on forums, and it's not cool. As Waypoint points out (pun not intended), the game dev/journalist/content creating community is close-knit, so it's easy for a lot of this stuff to get back to the people who read them, and it must really freaking suck to see. These are all normal people with jobs that just happen to be much more public and scrutinized than most.

And let's face it - if any of us made multiple recordings of us talking about ANYTHING and listened to them regularly, we'd pick up on plenty of mannerisms and verbal habits that we never noticed we even did. I think that just comes with the territory if so much of your stuff gets recorded on a regular basis. Nothing wrong with it.

The Waypoint Radio with Manveer Heir was excellent. Up there with theMafia 3 podcast with Steve Gaynor, talk about what defines Souls games (plus Nioh), and We Are Chicago.
I think those are the ones I would recommend for folks to listen if you've played the aforementioned games minus We Are Chicago.
The Manveer episode, and the one about allegations against the proprietor of a Popular Web Forum were both excellent. The Waypoint crew really is awesome at taking an issue and looking at it from a lot of different angles. The podcast is becoming one of my favorites.

Today's episode gave shout outs to 2mello! Austin is right. You need to listen to his mashups if you haven't.

Totally. The Chrono Trigger / Jay-Z one is a great starting point.

I made an account here as soon as I could. Really like the Waypoint forums though. The discussion is good and personally I think the forum software is cooler (real time updates, whoa), but you can't post quite as freely there since they are more focused on critical discussion. It does feel a bit weird though posting in a thread about Waypoint on ResetEra and also posting on Waypoint lol.

Waypoint Radio has become such an amazing podcast. Rob Zachny took it from good to amazing. That Imperial Stout story was hilarious.

Yeah, Rob has been a great addition to the cast. The increase in strategy game talk has been great, plus his stories are always fun to listen to. And he has a great radio voice.

Playing through Prey currently is making me think of danielle's love for the game, and it astounds me that she put in 100+ hours into it, not because she shouldn't or that the game doesn't deserve it, but because it's such a tense and desolate world to be in. Which is more to the game's credit really.

Like I can't play it anytime other than the weekends because I don't want to feel so tense after work. At this point I'm fairly powerful too.

That games demon was amazing and surprisingly difficult. They just throw incredibly dangerous enemies at you in that thing and you feel helpless. It's a game I want to get to the full version of eventually. I love me a good immersive sim.

Haven't checked in here yet, so here I am. Big Waypoint fan.

I have enjoyed Waypoint since it's inception, but I really love what it has evolved into. The podcast has been a must listen for me for a while now, everyone on it is so good and I'm so glad so many people whose opinions I care about got together in such a great way. Probably my second favorite overall after the Beastcast, with a ton of standout episodes that I wish at least every forum goer here could listen to.

I like the new Friday single topic format that they've had on the podcast for the past few weeks. I liked the more freeform style of before too and I hope they keep that on Mondays, but this was a good sort of jolt to the system they've implemented and it's led to some good discussion

Glad this thread made the move over. I've been really enjoying the podcast for a while so I hadn't been posting. The Immersive Sim focused one was great, and the interview/discussion with Manveer was awesome. I love getting some insight to the trickier goings on at a game dev.

As one take away to the immersive sim talk, I think I figured out that for me the stuff that's important in an immersive sim is also what I like about a "metroidvania." That sense of exploration, gaining new abilities that let you navigate the space, combat you can deal with in a multitude of ways (including avoidance) and a world you become increasingly familiar with as you go on. Hollow Knight and Prey both hit a lot of those similar points for me despite being very different styles of games with (I'm assuming) very different budgets. I totally get that it doesn't really immerse you the way a first person game with lots of minutiae does, but in terms of general qualities the game gives off, those were my takeaways.

It's not a games conference without a bit of dissonance in tone! Remember the crowd cheering for Joel point blank shot gunning a man in the head at E3 a few years back?
