AAA lesbian kissing and Kojima game where only men and babies are naked while women look cool. Unbelievable.

Not sure really what to make of that, but my first reaction was "really!?"
There are differences between disagreeing with points raised and outright dismissal of one's opinions. If somebody come in here just to tell us that our feelings are wrong (usually because it's not a problem for them and therefore shouldn't be a problem to anybody else), are they really interested in a discussion?

Some people were referring to her as 'Cindy done right'.

I must say, I really like her, but that has little to do with the sexiness... it's just that if you give a character glasses, I can't not appreciate. Don't know if it could be called a fetish.

That toothy smile is unique and contagious...! Adds character. Most game characters are pretty boys and idealized girls.

A Kojima game with normal, clothed women? What timeline is this? o.O

Now I want to see AAA gay men kissing. I wonder when we'll ever get that. :D
Give society 40 years or so to make straight guys not feel threatened by gay men expressing their sexuality... Imagine a timeline where they're as "marketable" as lesbians :/

In AC:O you have the option to be into men as well as into polygamy. The romance options are the same for both Alexios and Kassandra.

Yes, but you could also do that in Bioware games too no? They're gonna be optional too. I meant, putting a trailer of a massively AAA game and showing a male gay kiss in it like that. I'm not expecting this any time soon but I hope to be wrong.

While a lesbian relationship may be more "tolerated" than a relationship between two men, if you look around at some reactions to this reveal you'll see that it's not something that some are okay with. ND showing that front and center is a pretty brave move. As sad as that sounds.

Oh absolutely, didn't mean to imply it wasn't a big deal. To be honest I didn't expect that kiss at all for these same reasons.

I also really appreciate that they made Ellie not conventionally attractive, she looks so badass.

There's Lea too.
Mass Effect 2 had already two women kissing years ago and actually even having sex

Obviously TLOU2 isn't the first instance ever, but this is more about how Sony and ND decided to showcase it to the whole industry during the biggest gaming event in the world more than anything. Not to discredit ME either, but lesbian romance there is an option whereas here it's "canon" and part of the main narrative.

To be fair, at the same time gay male kisses are taken more seriously than female gay ones - the latter have almost an expectation of being just "sweeps week" kisses these days. TBH, when I see em I usually expect the characters to die or end up with guys anyway. While the kiss is good for marketing excitement, actually having a f/f ship can lead to ton of anger among certain parts of the demographic, often way beyond the anger they'd have for a m/m ship. We saw that in DA3 :(

That's why the ND reveal surprised me so much. I really do think it was quite gutsy. Even with the 'marketability' of women making out and whatnot.

KH3 trailer nearly ended on a male gay kiss. Riku was definitely giving Replica the "fuck me" eyes.

I wish we had gotten that. It'd have worked really well, too.

There are a couple key differences here. One is that this was presented during an E3 conference. It actually kicked off their E3 conference. They put a same sex kiss front and center in their E3 conference. The other, and possibly more important point, is that Ellie's gay. You can't make her like dudes like you can with a Mass Effect character. There's no romance system that lets you pick who you want to date, whether they be male or female. In other words, if you're someone that's homophobic then you can't run away from that aspect of her. It's part of who she is.

I'm really liking that. It's like, if you want to enjoy TLoU 2 you're going to have to deal with same sex romance. There's no out.

I also love that they seem to be making Ellie explicitly gay. I mean, I'm a bi woman and even I got a little of all the "but Ellie could like boys too!" posts

Thinking over all these trailers, it really does seem like things are still heading in a good direction as far as sexualization goes. I didn't watch every trailer or conference but afaik there was nothing particularly offensive about any of them.

Yes, this is definitely something I am happy about as well.

Also thanks to those mentioning same sex relationships for Assassins Creed. Was not sure if romance was in it since I did not watch the entire Ubisoft conference.

Yep, that's really quite wonderful. Is this the first AAA game to show an explicit same-sex relationship at the forefront of its marketing like that? If so, congrats ND on breaking ground and leading the way forward towards LGBTQ representation.

I'm (very) cautiously optimistic after watching the trailer for Fire Emblem: Three Houses- there's a distinct lack of combat lingerie so far! Still, with a largely unseen and inevitably wide cast, there's still time...

The lack of armour, collars, and military braid and epaulettes reminds me of 19th century uniforms, while the art style reminds me a bit of Persona.

Actually, maybe they remind me of the SMTIV gang while I'm thinking of Atlus. Maybe it's the collars or the use of the primary colours to distinguish them? Isabeau from SMTIV:

I'd be fine with literally every character returning except ZS Samus, but that's an okay compromise, I guess.

Do look forward to the Rex + Pyra reveal tho.

I liked playing as her more than suited Samus though. If they don't include her I hope her moves gets gifted to someone else. She seems quite popular though and from memory there aren't that many viable candidates from the Metroid IP.

The fact that Kojima has introduced 2 new female characters and look to be respectably presented blew my mind. Of course that could change once the game is released, but for right now I'm happy from what we've seen.

I really like the designs. And of course, the overall artstyle. I'm pretty curious to see who's the artist. It's much better than Kozaki was, even if I liked him.

Lack of obvious waifu material, and then this:

Woo?

Yeah, I saw it. She has much more muscles now and looks better. Really glad that they made changes, even if I'm a bit bummed that it isn't the one from Samus Returns as well as her power suit in there but it was too much recent either way.

I think I like the new Zelda look in Smash Ultimate. She looks happy and a bit more expressive. Her previous look was a little too cold for my personal tastes. What do you all think of her? I also like the vambraces more than the long gloves I think. Colour stands out a bit more too.

ALBW Zelda was a good call since it more takes after the general vibe of the majority of Zelda designs (mostly ALTTP) where TP, BOTW, and to a lesser extent SS Zelda were definitely aiming to break the mold a bit.

That being said I never disliked the quiet yet powerful demeanor of TP Zelda and wouldn't have minded her back, but considering the changes to Ganon and Link I think this was the right call. Though... honestly BOTW Link kinda stands out now as sort of an oddball Zelda rep, even with his classic tunic available. It would've been nice to be able to swap between multiple skins for these characters, but considering the timeframe of this game I doubt they had the resources for something like that and had to make decisions.

I still want them to add Smash 64 polygon costumes one dayyyy

I never quite felt the power vibe from that Zelda design. Quiet and maybe a kind of reserved confidence but I couldn't really see her as powerful either. I do agree with you on how BoTW Link stands out a bit. I really wish we got an Toon Ganon with dual swords in there. We have Zelda and Shiek with 3 different Links now in Adult, Toon and Young. :\
Toon Zelda would be nice too.

When I saw the trailer, I was surprised to see no "waifu bait" but then near the end I thought, "Nah there's definitely going to be a character aimed for that audience. I just know it." Still, not a bad look so far.

Can't compare off hand, but they really upped her muscle tone it seems.

I've sure been seeing this shot get passed around. It's so cuuuute! But yeah, I thought TP Zelda fit great in Brawl which was trying to go for a dark and gritty look. I really wasn't the biggest TP fan either. When Smash 4 came out, the dull colors of her look really stood out in a bad way IMO. Didn't really feel like how Zelda should look. I think allenpergallon summed it up perfectly. TP Zelda is fine on her own in trying to be a little different, but not really the best Zelda to really represent the series as a whole..

Speaking of all the Smash stuff though, I wanted to ask: What do you think of a lot of the added gender options announced by Sakurai? You know, like Female Pokemon Trainer, female pikachu, etc. I wanted to ask because I came across this tweet by Anita Sarkeesian.

And I've agreed with a lot of her stuff from Tropes vs Women and the like, but this just seems a bit condescending and obnoxious. I just wonder if it really came off that heavy handed for other people (namely women) too.

I guess they are pandering to women now when i look at the portraits.

I'd be surprised, but I'm hearing people say it's Shigenori Soejima. I suspect that it's still Kozaki and Kusakihara though.

I'm reading it could be Kurahana Chinatsu (uta no prince-sama) don't know if true.

I just took it as them pointing out that hey you can finally play as female Pikachu and Leaf. Something I've wanted ever since the lead up to Smash 4.

As most non Pokemon fans don;t know that Pikachu Libre is a girl I didn't think twice about them mentioning it in the direct.

Actually, in DA2 every romance was bi. They went back to gender gating romances in DAI as they found it took about the same resources making 4 bi romances as making 6 different gated romances, and they felt making their characters be straight only, or gay , or lesbian, or bi, or pan, meant they were able to write characters more freely as it were? It led to Dorian as a character, and making him a bi character would have taken away from his story so I think the tradeoff was good.

Sebastian, the DLC guy, was only romanceable by female Hawkes.
