The more I think k about it this game and TLoUS 2 and Death Stranding are going to be push forward to the PS5. No way Sony is goint to lose rhe opportunity to start with a big fucking bang.

Also that may explain why no "shoot in a ps4 pro" tag or something like that on these games.

Well, I'm definitely following this. That was a seriously good looking trailer.

I'm going to have to pick up a 4k tv this year, aren't I?

The main character looks so much like Jet Li

He should't, Jet Li is Chinese, lead here is Japanese.

I get what you mean, it is odd that a Western company is making a big budget samurai story, but Assassins Creed is developed by a multinational team and tackles all manner of historical and cultural things quite well, so I wouldn't rule out the possibility of this being sound in that aspect if they consult with historians and cultural experts from Japan/China.

That's true. Although Assassin's Creed has established that they can handle that stuff at least reasonably well. This studio doesn't have that.

But it's not like Ubisoft also nails that every time. For example, in Skull and Bones they have Portuguese sailors speaking with a Brazilian accent. It's never the same as someone from that culture doing the game.

I'm not saying "nobody should make games about cultures other than their own" but this makes weary. And this seems to lean so much on this aesthetic that it doesn't sit well with me.

Dunno, we will see.

About the combat I think that it is obvious that its not a simple attack/block button smash gameplay.

The defense is looking multi-directional and probably the attack too.

There is option to break the attack, charged attack to break defense and evade.

Also I assume the stealth chain combo that we saw in the trailer is a skill.

And we only saw the first gameplay of the game with the way of the samurai. I would love to see how is the way of the ghost.

Successful defense with attacks from many directions and break attack move:

Non successful defense that shows that you don't just press a block button:

Charged attack that breaks the defense (and as a bonus cuts a hand):

Good breakdown. I too noticed that she hit Jin despite his defence being up and it didn't look like it was tied to stamina, meaning there must be varying stances.

I just dont even understand how they're even drawing a similar audience?! I have no desire to play From's latest offering. Hell, you'd have to pay me... but i'd pay much more than asking to step into Ghost!

Sony WWS studios has reached reached historical Yankees, Lakers and present day golden State Warriors and NE Patriots level of success. Which is to say people will nitpick and hate you because you're good at what you do, and then there's some salt thrown in.

I'm also going to keep throwing god of war into people's faces. You know...the one where people were hemmig and hawing about the combat a month before release based off of nothing.

I await the next GOW tier which is " why haven't they shown us more story! They must be hiding something!"

I guess Day/NIght cycle might be fixed like infamous?
The day 9 of mongol invasion does make it seem like the time of day might be fixed. But the leak we got mention that you can go to homebase to pick day/night time if you want to play missions as ghost at night for example. So who knows.

Personally even if the time of day might be fixed. I hope you can still choose on what time you'll play a mission. Because I'm going to play this as Ghost at night most of the time.

It looked like there was a high and low guard. If they're really going for Bushido, that game had high, low, and mid attacks. Right/left would be too difficult for the way camera works in this game, but high/mid/low attack/guard system would provide sufficient challenge and make the clashes feel involved enough.

Edit: Apologies if this was obvious already in the thread, just loved the trailer and jumped in with quick thoughts.
Don't worry, its not obvious :)

Many believe that the game is a simple button smash action game.

I think that it is important to keep in mind that the game will probably have two different play styles, samurai (sword play, archery, and defense) and ghost (stealth, alchemy, and agility). Well that if the rumors are correct and also if the initial reveal trailer implies that aspect.

Loads of potential with this one.

Battle system gave me AC vibes, not sure if that's a good thing :P

It feels like this will be released 1 or 2 years from now.

Anyone hyped for Ghosts of Tsushima more than The Last Of Us Part 2?

Because I certainly am. I really hope it at least comes out in 2019.

The open world, melee combat w/counters, horseback riding, building climbing, stealth vision, and stealth chain kills could have been taken directly from any number of Assassin's Creed games. Since the series swaps between locations with almost every iteration, this is kind of what people expect a Japanese AC game to look like.

I think AC is back in most people's good graces since Origins, so it's not exactly an insult, just an observation.

There was no stealth vision that I could see in the trailer, horseback riding and parries can apply to a million open world action adventure games (Witcher 3 for example). I still don't see the relationship. I feel like its a lazy way to handwave a game off personally. The camera, combat mechanics look to be different from AC. I do get what you are saying about the stealth chain kills but everything else looks to be from Bushido Blade and Tenchu.

I really liked it!

Graphics aren't as hot as they were in the announcement video, but I looooooooooved the whimsicality of it. Fighting with leaves flying and all that. The part where Jin jumps from the roof and kills the guys in the house, ending with the horn blower through the paper wall was pretty great! Interested to see more.

did you people ever compared Ridge Racer with Gran Turismo? Because that's the most similar analogy i can get comparing ghost of tsushima with Sekiro, and blows my mind. The only relation in both games are samurais and feudal japan.

Both games look amazing, but really apart of those 2 things, they have nothing in common.

The gamersyde high quality footage is so damn sexy. This game looks fucking amazing y'all! Everything I want in this type of setting. Combat also seems super grounded and mythological which is going to be rewarding in itself.
I can't fucking wait to play this game.

First time in my life that I've seen a game that actually does look like a "Painting in Motion", I became speechless the moment he rode through the fields.

Yeah, I had similar thoughts too.

The first game that gave me that feeling is Witcher 3, but this is even more beautiful (imo).

And that music in the background.

Not sure why people are saying the gameplay looked dull. I feel like they didn't really unveil anything about it other than it's an open world and you can climb on stuff. I got the feeling that they hid the HUD and did other things to make this more of a presentation and sort of obscured and barely hinted at the game's mechanics.

I may be missing something though. It certainly gives off some Infamous vibes. Great looking world that's fun to move around in and a boring looking main character. It looks like they may have carried over the "decide what to do with dude on ground" action too. I certainly hope the gameplay is good because the setting is great.

I'm muso shieden-ryu too but I'm still very much just a disciple, as far as I know unless you are too eager to make the cut there shouldn't be too much noise when you draw, maybe the sword just doesn't fit the saya very well, that could be a factor. Maybe the direction of the draw is off, causing the blade to hit or rub against the side of the saya hence the sound you hear.

I think you misunderstood me, I was just asking if it drives you nuts when in films/movies, the draw is incredibly loud and/or metallic.

I knew the combat would be grounded going in, so I guess my expectations were already set there and I dig it.

Game looks fucking phenomenal to me. The atmosphere is so thick, some muted tones with other colors splashed in. Really striking.

I can honestly say I have never seen a game that looks to be so artistically beautiful. I am in awe... The precise, elegant sword animations; the incredible way they have captured the natural world where nature is almost a character itself (much like BotW); and the incredible use of the juxtaposition of deep stillness and dynamic motion.....Sucker Punch clearly gets it. It is abundantly clear that they have deeply studied and researched classic samurai cinema (like Kurosawa) and classical kenjutsu/swordplay.

Now, it is still a big question mark how the game will actually play and the jury is still out on this. Can they make the actual combat gameplay as good as the visuals with depth and challenge, bringing something new to the table? I cannot wait to find out!!!

Jesus.....this, Sekiro and Nioh 2.....I am in heaven!!

PS - I am honestly totally dumbfounded by folks saying the animations are looking bad. I mean....what!?

Didn't love the gameplay shown off in the demo (I mean, how many third person climby simple combat games do we need nowadays?) but it is probably the most visually impressive game I've seen on a console lately.

Lighting looks blown out to a ridiculous level, like a parody of Battlefield 3. Then again, at sunset, The Witcher 3 would look like a bit of an eye-sore. Hope we see another time of day in-game soon.

The battle system does not flow as well as I wanted it to. This demo has tempered my expectations quite a bit, hope the sword fighting system vastly improves before release, right now every time a battle happened it didn't work for me. If not then the story better be something special.

Very impressive. Great graphics and I loved that it mixed some infamous climbing in this. The leaves on the ground reacting to the movement around them felt like something from Dead or Alive years ago but on another level.

I really liked the duelling and the way the character casually stabs fallen enemies, and the totally clear hud is so welcome.

First chance I've had to comment on the game since the reveal... In the Conference thread, people were complaining about how the combat looked like it sucked, but I thought it just looked really grounded. It reminded me of Bushido Blade and that made me extremely excited. I can't wait to see more on this game!

Gameplay reminds me of "Way of the Samurai" I like it. One thing I am not a fan of, are the animations. But that is what happens after being revealed after The Last of Us Part 2.

This moment and the ensuing fight kind of did it for me after the initial gasp at how fucking beautiful this whole thing is.

I also really liked that moment where he uses a jump & hook combo during the monk stealthy segment.

I don't know, having completely ignored this game prior, I think it looks incredibly promising and totally different from Sekiro and Nioh 2. I'm also wondering if there simply is no HUD and this is just how the game looks considering how grounded it is? It'd be pretty cool at least...I can't imagine a bunch of shit clogging up those gorgeous vistas.
