I dunno about AO, but yeah, it was super hard for me to watch. For the first time watching a video game my brain subconsciously registered real people getting murdered on screen. Which sounds ridiculous, but that's where ND's tech is now. It's probably too messed up for me to play, so I'll catch the cutscenes on YouTube when the game's out.
I'm guessing he means some animations were scripted specifically for this demo and wouldn't happen in normal gameplay

This animation doesn't make sense. She loosely rotates the hammer in her hand to land with the hammer's face, but the claws dig into the enemy's cheek.
It was unprofessional, I think people can say that and move on. Being a jerk to him isn't right either.

He clearly meant "scripted" not "faked" as in CG or whatever (which is debatable still, but not as blatantly false as accusing them of using CG). And he apologized. No need to pile on, let's move on.
That scene looked great at the time, but this one is just more subtle, and when the kiss gets more passionate the camera is already at the back of Ellie's head.
That Uncharted 2 kiss looked pretty realistic at the time though.
You're getting it backwards. She's flipping it so the claw is facing her knuckles.
You're following the trajectory of the hammer wrong. When you watch it load in slow motion you see it's such a wide arching swing that she essentially ends up switching the hammer face in the process of swinging it.
Pretty sure she's also pivoting as she hits which twists it around to land the claw in his face.

I wonder how scripted it really was. The fight at the end in the shop seemed pretty legit. TLOU and UC4 have a lot of context-sensitive takedowns, where if you're by a display and do a thing, you'll throw that dude into the display.
Ah, you're right. I got confused since her knuckles were facing me when she grabbed the hammer again.
What's pretty nuts is that her hand always perfectly lines up with any object she picks up (even when she grabs the bottle mid sprint). Though also makes wonder again if it's perhaps scripted as I wonder what for example would have happened if the handle of the machete at 6:59 had pointed in a different direction.
I'm willing to bet the vast majority wasn't scripted at all. The level of polish might make it seem that way, but ND are literally the best in the business when it comes to contextual animations and animation blending.
She probably automatically spins it around for certain finisher moves, and then back around for brawling melee combat.
this entire sequence with the dialogue was perfect! it gave the perfect impression of two young people being in love, with well written "cringey" dialogue if that makes any sense? (the garbage Line)Animation bliss.
