20 years ago I literally worked at a record store just so I could buy music cheaper. I still paid attention to lists, especially for legacy albums, because minimum wage don't go very far when even with a discount you paid the same price as a month of Spotify. People don't realize how ridiculous the value is for streaming.

Haha same; I worked at a Camelot Music in 1997/98, but made most of my money on the side dealing so could afford quite a bit.

I worked at basically the OG Tower Records too. Late late 90's when napster broke, I was still that dude spending his money on CD's. I actually remember buying stuff like Kid A at midnight. I remember paying like $8 for import Bjork singles because of different artwork and a remix. I wonder if anyone here can imagine paying $8 for a single.

I mean, the cover is ass in some regards, but XXL has never focused on predicting who has staying power. Rather, it's been who's had the hottest year at the time of publication and those choices don't lie.

yep, just look back at the prior lists and there's always a few who spectacularly flopped shortly after they got on the XXL cover. it's very in the moment

santeria hook (and ghost town obviously) were so good, can't wait to hear what they cooked up. very hyped for new nas, should get the tracklist and album cover tomorrow night if Kids See Ghosts and Daytona are anything to go by
