A terrorist releasing the virus or a B.O.W in any city would still result in the same scenario as the virus getting out by accident ( just like Raccoon City with Zombies and Monsters killing people) so that still doesn't explain why RE needs to be all action and no horror.

Depend on enemy and situation

RE 5 and RE 6 Chris/Jake Campaign is Enhanced Human B.O.W.s Enemy (majini/j'avo) that can use many range weapons that try to attack town or city (become a warzone like RE 4 island part)

On RE 6 Leon campaing main enemy is Zombies thay why his campaign more horror focus.

They could or just make sure all RE games going forward have a good balance of horror, creepy atmosphere and action too.

I mean, why even bother calling it Resident Evil if it lacks the horror elements that made the series popular in the first place, might as well just make a new IP for that. RE4 nailed action with horror and is considered one of the best in the series by many, so it doesn't need to be one way or the other to keep both sides happy.

I'm familiar enough with the RE fanbase to know that this could probably never happen, purely because the divides are just way too cemented in people's minds. Classic RE fans who hate action RE really fucking hate it and likewise for action RE fans and the classic style.

It's hard to blame anyone other than Capcom for these divides though, given they're the ones who put them there in the first place.

Can anyone care to explain to me what's this fixed camera thing that people are complaining about? The demo posted here looked impressive and the over the shoulder perspective gave me RE4 vibes which is what i wanted out of Re7 but Re7 went FPS perspective which was still great though. So tell me if it's following RE4's approach to camera perspective and overall game play feel, why are people angry about it?

Simplest answer is RE4 is an Action Adventure shooter with horror elements while the original RE2 was a Survival Horror Classic Adventure game. Two wildly seperate genres.

The details get into the game mechanics, thematics, ect. RE4 encourages you to blast your way through everything, while RE2 encouraged you to avoid enemies and stockpile for those fights you could not avoid, but that as always second to an emphasis more on exploration and puzzel solving.

Luckily it looks like this REimagining is more in line with modern survival horror, so thats good IMO.

New Claire model kinda looks like model from japanese original biohazard 2 commercial (that one directed by G. Romero). I would like to see the model who is based on now, if there's any.

I don't like it. Not having a fixed camera takes away all of the original "feel" of the... well... original. There is something about a fixed camera perspective of the original RE games I think that can't be recreated in 3rd person.

You're looking for a remaster.

This is a full on remake. Not saying you're wrong, but that your expectations are completely different from the scope of this project.

I'd completely agree if it weren't for RE Rebirth/Remake which still added a lot of things but fundamentally had the same progression. This looks like a different game.

The good thing is that we'll always have the original game to play and now this remake too, which is looking really sweat. Capcom is back to form.

I know we're all spoiled by modern day depictions of Leon, but I'm not sure I'm seeing what is so inconsistent with Leon's face

they've gotta get the original (or an altered) soundtrack pumping through the whole game, the sound was such a huge part of RE2

Main enemy in RE 5/6 (Chris/Jake Campaign) is Enhanced Human B.O.W.s Enemy (majini/j'avo) that can use many range weapons that try to attack town or city (become a warzone like RE 4 island part).

They could use weapons in RE4 too but they still made sure they gave us fans horror and atmosphere we expect from the series, along with the action.

RE5 and 6 lost most of the horror elements (Leon's campaign in 6 was by far the best part) so they were no longer creepy and I'd rather fight zombies and monsters over human mutations shooting guns any day. If you prefer that, you have RE5 & 6 to play and us RE horror fans have RE7 and soon RE2 remake. I'm very happy Capcom are giving us original fans what we want again. :)

Oh I plan to check it out on the xbox game pass....

I never beat 5 or 6, either.
RE5 is an ok game, get to it if you get the chance. One of the most loved characters' in RE has his story resolved and it's worth playing for that alone. It's also got some fantastic DLC story episodes, one of which is very important to RE's lore.

RE6 might be the only thing on the planet that is worse than Coldplay, so avoid it like the plague.

This is just my opinion, but I really like REmake 2's take on the Main Hall Theme personally. This is all a matter of taste though.

You can hear the Main Hall Theme at this timestamp in the Famitsu video:

The only thing is that the volume of the music is quiet in the demo. I like its darker, yet still melodic, reverberating and sorta' lonely tone.

I don't like how the game points out your objective or where you should be going next. Let the player freely explore in their own way and figure it out for themselves.

Is there no full demo footage up yet? It seems like they are all cut off.

The demo is running on a 15-20 minute timer apparently, so I don't think anyone's reached the end yet. There is two official streams of the game on Capcom's official Twitch today though, one lasting for 30 minutes with the game's two producers (that one starts in a little less than three hours from now), and the other starring some big name RE fans (cvxfreak, Carcinogen, and Blonde Nerd), which they're all huge veteran RE players so I think in their stream we'll see further in the demo than we've seen so far.

That first stream is from 9:30 AM PST - 10 AM PST (with the producers), and the second stream (with the big RE fans) is from 1 PM PST - 2 PM PST.

They'll be happening at this Twitch account: https://www.twitch.tv/capcomusa

I'm absolutely paying the extra money to get that OG soundtrack. That theme from the main hall of the station is just too iconic for me to go without.

All the things I don't like are such tiny easily fixable things. It's all basically that the game gives the player too much information and juat reminds the player that they're playing a game.

I really really hope that this is the direction the series goes in for RE8 now. That mix of classic Metroidvania with light RE4 combat, 2 campaigns, great atmosphere and scarce ammo. I don't even care about the fixed camera as they seemed to nail the tension without it.

I'm a big fan of RE2 and this is just perfect. I mean, it looks scary and it looks like there's going to be some good body horror.
I wish they'd let you remove the objectives, but apart from that I'm really looking forward to it.

I couldn't hear it AT ALL in the gamestop demo ? Am I losing it?

Also has there been new videos since gamestop ?

edit: ooooooooh that's because the gamestop dude didn't let the music play, the cutscene cuts the music as soon as it starts, damn

Genuinely frightening. The atmosphere in the gameplay video was skin crawling. Holy shit it didn't even trigger my zombie fatigue unlike Days Gone.

I think a big part of it is that many zombie games have kinda' gone done a route for 'standard zombie', making them more a popcorn unit and honestly a 'sterilized' version of itself. Add to this it's been done to death.

REmake 2 however instead of just making a popcorn zombie is actually putting in effort to make an interesting morbid take on zombies, focusing on why they're scary and nailing it. A lot of small things, like the diversity in appearance (a lot of zombie games all the zombies look kinda' the same, while REmake 2 will certainly have repeating zombie models there's a WIDE variety of them and of all sorts of different body types, plus the body types actually make some gameplay difference in how you tackle them), the fact they actually look morbid and gnarly, the animations are on-point, they lumber like a zombie but tail you and can corner you and provide an actual threat alone, plus their damage system is surprisingly well done yet grotesque (the GameSpot video where the guy is shooting the one zombie in the face and it's not dying, shooting off layers of face skin so you see the muscles and then the skull beneath, actually was both awesome and terrifying at once).

It's one of the few games to focus on making the zombies have personality and try to tap into what fundamentally makes a zombie scary, which if often forgotten due to the popular media depiction of them and how overused they are. Plus it also helps RE2 won't really have an issue in enemy variety, so zombies aren't all that the player will be dealing with.

I don't like how the game points out your objective or where you should be going next. Let the player freely explore in their own way and figure it out for themselves.

RE7 let you turn that off, so I bet REmake 2 will as well. The bright side is it isn't all knowing, after the initial shutter scene you're tasked with finding three medallions, but the map doesn't tell you where they are.

I've been watching more videos and it does look phenomenal.

RE7 is a great game which really captures what the series is/was about if you guys still haven't given it a chance.

That's actually kinda cool.
But for some reason I think we all wanted for chris to resemble chris from 5 & 6 not go back to og chris younger self.

I dunno.

I mean, I'm not part of that 'we', I never liked Unreal Engine Abomination Chris. Though I understand the attachment many fans has developed for him. And that is just a 20ish year older version of og Chris in 7.

Two new videos since GameSpot I know of. I'll link both:

That because RE4 happend on isolated village, castle not town or big city (also no coop)

Raccoon City is a big city and RE 2 Remake looks fucking terrifying. It's all about the atmosphere, dark lighting, creepy sound effects, the quiet tension building up before the bit of action kicks in, they can make any setting scary or creepy if they try.

Zombies haven't been this scary in a long time and it's glorious. :)

Let me say I love how Leon is speaking in this demo ! That he is reacting to things and speaking to himself really sells the idea of him being a rookie instead of the superhuman hero of later REs !

I mean, it sounds natural to us, but Capcom also has to sell that this Leon we're seeing is merely a human with no experience under his belt.

The way he still tries to talk sense into zombies, telling them to stay back like they could be reasoned with, and the way the lines seamlessly cuts when he gets bitten is great.

Really great interpretation of Leon.

I can count how many times I've pre-ordered a game on my fingers but this does it, I'm all in on the Deluxe Edition.

Just to clarify: the fact his reaction to a zombie lunging at him is 'YOU ASSHOLE!' is obviously what made me hit that purchase button.

I'm sure it will be roughly 100 USD for the special edition here in Japan.

It sounds a lot like this track from Outbreak File 2.

... But I think the Outbreak track sounds a little better. In fact, Outbreak had some phenomenal music, where I'm not so sure this one will.

I mean RE 5,6 have Army that carry many melee/range weapon try to attack you in the city or wherever (which can't be horror)
unlike most enemy in RE 4 that use melee weapon and happend on isolated village, castle (which can be horror)
