There were issues with God of War (although I pre-ordered it MONTHS in advance but still got it). Detroit never was available and now Spiderman isn't available. They are not sold out....just not available. I have Prime, so the 20% off is desirable. Not sure what the issue between the two companies are but Amazon is a huge retailer for games and that is definitely not helping sales of these games.

It is really freaking annoying. I pre-ordered a slew of games after E3, and really want to get Spider-Man, but it not being available on Amazon is a supreme bummer. Guess I'll just have to go up to Gamestop or something.

It's not just Sony, unfortunately. You still can't pre-order RDR 2 on either platform on Amazon.

Never.

uh

Of course they will. Nintendo had a similar spat with Amazon (though it was over hardware) for literally years and it was eventually resolved.

I never knew that they were feuding. What's the history between the two?

Regardless, it sucks

Yeah this is a Nintendo problem too which leads me to believe it's actually an Amazon problem.

This sucks for me too, I want to pre order Spider-Man for the 20% discount. I'm guessing Amazon trying to strong arm Sony into giving it better deals, they've done it with other outlets in the past. Seems like Amazon having spats with other companies is just an in thing now. I suppose I will buy from elsewhere if it doesn't get resolved soon.

amazon loses money when they dont have any PlayStation stuff and PlayStation loses money when they are no on amazon.
--> I guess both want the problem (propably because the 20% off) to be solved as quick as possible, but its not that simple I guess.

btw. amazon is huge in germany with games and spider-man can be pre-ordered with no problem - but its just 2 euro and not 20% off with prime in germany.

It is. You still can't pre-order or buy new Disney blu rays on there, either. Amazon picks fights with a lot of companies that don't want to play ball by allowing them to take a huge chunk of the cut, as usual.

I'm still trying to figure out what's going on with this? I mean I buy my games digitally now, but I'm still wondering what's up.

God of War sold 5 million in first month, so it's Amazon that is losing more than it's the game sales that are being impacted.

In the UK I have been able to pre-order RDR2 for a while and Spider-Man became available very recently for pre-order, which was a great relief. I'd hate to have to go to a shop... D:

That 20% discount is one of the main reasons I keep Prime.

I want to preorder Spider-Man, RDR2, the new Tomb Raider, and Ass Creed Odyssey. Only Tomb Raider is available for pre-order.

Notice you also can't preorder Disney blu-rays on their site either so something is going on with them. I do have RDR2 preordered but only because I did it like, last year when it went up but makes me wonder if I'll get it the day it releases or not..

Probably when they kill off the 20% discount like Best Buy, they will bring things back.

That was Nintendo's fault as far as I know. Nintendo was charging Amazon to return defective units instead of footing the bill.

Who know's why this is happening between Amazon and Sony though.

I'm sure it will, but it could take a while. As noted above, they had a spat with Nintendo over hardware that lasted for years and had 3DS and Wii U only available through third party sellers etc.

Video games are very narrow profit margins, especially with the 20% Prime discount on preorders, so Amazon can play hardball as they don't really have anything to lose. Sony probably doesn't care that much either as there are plenty of other place for consumers to buy their products and they're hardware and games like God of War have been selling like hot cakes.

So whatever the standoff is over, it could last a while as neither one is in a desperate position and willing to give in easily.

Wow so its not just Sony then? Amazon must be trying to muscle a new deal with platform holders for a better slice on physical games... Sony should be careful though, since iirc they use Amazon's CDN for the PSN.

Would be great to get a digital equivalent of the Prime/GCU discount...

I managed to get a Spider-Man pre-order in before all this started happening, hopefully it won't be an issue when it comes out. Hopefully this gets worked out soon.

Seems like publishers are at war with Amazon, more and more companies are not putting up their games for pre order. I would buy these games for full price just for convenience, it sucks that's not even an option.

yeah we really to know what on earth is going on. I'm really surprised their hasn't been a detailed reason for all of this;

I'm wondering if Sony and/or some publishers are at fault here with Amazon not listing certain games, and Best Buy GCU going away very suddenly without much info. It's been speculated that GCU is gone because some publishers are unhappy with the service devaluing their games and "changing" MSRP...

Would not surprise me if these Amazon issues are related.

Their loss. I'll just go to Walmart or Gamestop at release.

Amazon salty they can't access their Epic accounts on the other systems.

Don't worry in 2-3 years MS will be having Amazon issues too.

Something is going on with Amazon and video games. Even Red Dead Redemption 2 (the only game I have preordered from them, at $50, because I had credit given to me and it was cheap) is showing as unavailable. That's worrying.

So that's why I couldn't pre-order any edition of Spider-Man, I thought everyone else just got super hyped up after E3 like me.

P.S. Anyone know where I can get a CE pre-ordered for Spider-Man? :)

It's not just software either it seems.

For all intent and purposes, Amazon has stopped carrying Sony PS4 hardware in an official capacity, since at least a month or two.
Edit: I also ended up having to buy two $50 cards instead of a $50 and a $25 to benefit of the 20% off in May, which pissed me off.

Red Dead has been like that for over a year. Amazon initially said it was sold out due to estimated allocations and then had it available briefly before becoming unavailable again.

Then everyone noticed the spat with Sony and clearly the "allocations" reason was bollocks. So this might not rectify itself any time soon.

Customer service told me my preorder was fine as of last week, but it does bug me some. They put the deal up and I don't want to have to pay another thirty to forty dollars for something I already ordered and paid for.

I hope it's just a stock thing, but don't believe it to be.

Well on the flip side I ordered the God of War CE the day it went live on Amazon. It never shipped.

The problem is Sony and select publishers are taking issue with the 20% preorder discount. This is why Gamer Club was killed as well, publisher push back. Best Buy simply doesn't have the clout or perhaps desire to fight them on it like Amazon does. It's not a coincidence all of this happened at the same time.

That's a great point. I'm sure they hate it as it has to take away from digital sales. I know I've resisted impulse buys digitally to play at midnight as it's wasn't worth it to do that vs. pay for 20% ish (tax) less and play the next day.

I'm so lazy that I was going to buy Yakuza 0, realized that I still couldn't get a PSN card for $20 from Amazon, didn't want to put more money than that onto my account, and just gave up instead of putting in all my card info and deleting it immediately after. I tried NewEgg for a digital PSN code once, and it took forever.

There's got to be an easier, non-Amazon way.

This sounds more like Amazon regretting that 20% off for Prime members. Bet this won't be an issue after the prime price increase is in full effect.

Yep. It's not hard to figure out why this is happening.

I won't be forced to buy my games digital. I'll just get the physical copy at a cheaper price elsewhere. Detroit cost me $45 on ebay brand new.
