This is just my opinion, but I really like REmake 2's take on the Main Hall Theme personally. This is all a matter of taste though.

You can hear the Main Hall Theme at this timestamp in the Famitsu video:

The only thing is that the volume of the music is quiet in the demo. I like its darker, yet still melodic, reverberating and sorta' lonely tone.

Volume aside, that's a really nice iteration from what I can hear. Always loved that X-Files/Mark Snow style melancholy the RE2 soundtrack had going on with those little somber piano runs etc.

Edit: So I couldn't control myself and watched a tad more just for the combat and that enemy variety and modeling is completely fantastic. There are a ton of body shapes, female, male and several races across only a handful of enemies already.

I've been watching a lot of these videos the last couple days and boy does it look so good. The fact that they're able to focus on graphics in this game because they aren't selling this on VR as well is amazing. I'm loving this new engine already.

Oh wait ! didn't original have Giant Cockroach in Sewer Segment ?

People would get nightmare for that.
Sewers had spiders and an Alligator, there was a moth later on in the labs. Don't remember cockroaches.

The zombies look surprisingly intimidating and imposing. Their proportions, faces and so on are shockingly 'realistic'.
The Zombies don't bother me, it's the sewers I'm worried about.

Is it me or does the opening demo text imply the game itself starts at the gas station outside Raccoon instead of after the truck hits the car in the streets.

I'm going back and forth now on whether I should finally play RE7, since it has impacted the development of this game so drastically. At the same time, I think when that inevitable RE7 vs RE2make debate comes, I want to be the guy with the un-jaded view who only played RE2 without knowing what to expect from that engine or design-philosophy.

By all means, this game looks incredible and impressions reaffirm this belief.

This new Leon fits the original narrative of a rookie cop much better.

Before E3 this Remake wasn't a priority for me. Now it's one of my most anticipated games. I can tell it is going to be a ton of fun just from watching the demo.

The dark, dense atmosohere, that rich color pallete and detailed environments (first time I truly felt that pre-rendered backgrounds are obsolete in this series) and those zombie designs and animations that are the creepiest I've seen.

The changes made to the levels, puzzles and enemey/npc encounters. The new knife mechanics.

Seems to me the team nailed it big time. This even looks much better than 7 to me from a gameplay perspective.

Nothing else to say other than day -1 for this.

Well...Resident Evil is supposed to be scary

Face your fears, amigo
Well my usual tactic when I have these problems in games is to drink a bottle of wine and take my glasses off.

Skyrim nearly killed me.

RE7 is worth playing because it's a fantastic game in it's own right.

Ah...finally we're back to what resident evil should be.

Anyway, the only odd thing that stood out to me was the way doors opened when Leon has a flashlight in his hands. There was no animation and the doors just swung open. Hopefully that's something they look at?

I doubt sherry will be dying this time around like in the cockroach scene above. It'll be like Revelations 2 where everything is just "fainted"

I just remembered this section. Shivers.

I'm thinking they'll go further than Natalia actually. If only because in the E3 stage reveal trailer there's very clearly a shadowed little girl enemy (it's definitely not Sherry), which might imply either a zombie child or something else.

I'd be surprised if they let anything more than "fainting" happen to Sherry. I am curious if the deaths are going to be more Hitchcockian or if they'll be as gruesome as stuff we've seen so far

Plot Twist: it's an E-001 model forcing Leon to relive the events from RE2 in his mind.

EDIT: I really like how Sherry actually looks like a 12yo American schoolgirl instead of her weird Japanese uniform from the original. She also looked much younger than 12.

I saw the Easy Allies video and they said you could get out of the RPD. Like, from the entrance

Yeah I've seen enough.

I'd advise to go on a media blackout.

The demo will also probably be uploaded sometime this year.

Do we actually know if there isn't an option for tank controls or at least something along the lines of RE4's controls? I wouldn't be surprised if that was one ofthe classic options they are touting

I am going to do something I have not done since I frequented numerous Resident Evil fan sites years and years ago, and that is to take a deep dive into the footage released so far and share my impressions as a longtime Resident Evil aficionado to make of what you will. Some of these observations have likely already been made, but I have not read the entirety of this thread or the previous one, so I apologize in advance if anything I have to say sounds redundant. Also, my thoughts may not be as organized as I would like, as I am currently getting over a stomach bug and my head is pretty foggy right now.

So now, without further ado:

My initial impression when I saw the reveal trailer during Sony's press conference was, admittedly, "I am not sure how I feel about this." It took the second trailer Capcom released to really sell me on this remake. As someone who was hoping for something more akin to the GameCube remake of the original game, though I was still open to the possibility of an over-the-shoulder view, or even a first person perspective after how successfully Capcom utilized this in Resident Evil 7, I was nevertheless taken aback by the drastic change. But not being what I was expecting or even hoping for is not necessarily a bad thing, and I firmly believe what I have seen so far of this game illustrates that point.

Having said that, I am going to take a bit of a different tack with my impressions, as plenty has already been written about the graphics, artistic direction and design, gameplay, and so on. I want to take notice of some of the smaller details that may have been missed by the coverage at large. These are smaller details that many may not notice upon first glance. And if they have already been discussed, I apologize again for the redundancy.

Firstly, the demo seems to imply that the game will now begin at the gas station, rather than the crash site that separates Leon and Claire. In addition to presumably adding more content to the opening's Raccoon City streets portion, it appears from the footage that Leon may not actually start the game wearing his RPD uniform, as he did in the original. The footage is dark, and it is impossible to tell solely from his silhouette, but in the first trailer, when he is approaching the front gates of the RPD building, it looks like he is wearing a jacket (perhaps the new jacket for which Capcom is currently taking preorders online?). Even though he begins the demo in his full uniform, maybe in the final game, he will actually have to locate his uniform in the station and change into it. Could this speak to a possible armor upgrade element ala Resident Evil 1.5, or even simply the tactical vests in Resident Evils 4 and 5? Note that his uniform includes an actual bullet proof vest this time, rather than just decorative plates (I am not sure if it was ever established in canon if those plates were actually bullet proof or not, though).

His handgun, in addition, is labeled "Matilda" in the inventory screen. A nice nod to Resident Evil 4 and later appearances of his trusty VP70, but I do wonder if this means Capcom will not be recreating real world weapons this time around, because it does not much look like a VP70. Think the remake and Resident Evils 0, 4, and 6, where the weapons were loosely based on real world equivalents, but heavily modified or customized so as only to bear a passing resemblance to their real world counterparts. Unlike the original games and Resident Evil 5, which carefully modeled the weapons after their real world counterparts and even used their real world names (though, admittedly, sometimes those names were incorrect). It is also worth noting that Leon's handgun only hold 12 rounds as opposed to the 18 it held in the original. Interestingly, Claire's handgun in the original, the Browning HiPower, only held 12 rounds, as well. Perhaps they did this for balancing?

Speaking of handgun ammunition, you have no doubt noticed that they reused the same ammo box from Resident Evil 7.

Leon mentions to Marvin that he was supposed to start with the department the previous week but was told to stay away. I wonder if this means they are eschewing the plot point from the original where Leon was late to his shift on his first day because he was hungover. He had a bad breakup with his girlfriend the previous night, with whom he had been living, and got a hotel room where he drank his sorrows away. While this does offer an interesting explanation for why he fell so hard so fast for Ada over the course of the game, I would be fine with them doing away with this tidbit. I always thought it would have been a lot easier to just say his first shift was the, ahem, graveyard shift.

The way Leon gives himself these little "pep talks" as he wanders around the police station is actually rather charming, and I think it really goes a long way to hammering home the fact that he is just a young rookie barely out of the academy. I just hope they do not overdo it. A little here and there is just fine, but we do not need to have the characters narrating everything that happens onscreen.

I am not sure how many people have noticed this, but when Leon gets bitten by a zombie, you can actually see the bite mark on his neck, and while I am sure it is not permanent, it does appear during cutscenes and seems to last for quite awhile. Perhaps you have to be fully healed for it to disappear completely?

It appears the fountain statue in the main hall requires three emblems now instead of just one.

I am sure there is much more that I intended to include here that I have forgotten as I have been typing, but I think this post has gone on long enough for now anyway. Thoughts? Feelings?

As an arachnophobe, I just hope they ditch the spiders in the sewers.
That segment is one of the first things that come to my mind when I think of RE2, they were sorta iconic and getting rid of it is basically career suicide when making a remake like this, i fear.

I'm not arachnophobe and that part caused me a huge impression, if you need an idea D:(also i only watched the game and I was 7 at the time, that was the bit that stuck with me lol)

Damn, I wonder if the Digital Deluxe edition will have its content available elsewhere or separately. I want those costumes and more importantly the OST swap!

Thanks for the impressions for the ones that can't be there ;;

I was also pretty concerned about the camera angles, but as long as that doesn't make the game more action based it might actually help with the gameflow... tank controls were pretty confusing and not using them even more because the camera changed direction in pretty unconfortable ways :/
