Kind of, yup! Their explanation is that movies are mixed for "reference" level, and the majority of home theatres aren't playing at that volume, so bumping up the rears gets you the intended surround effect without having to crank it quite as loud. In my upstairs setup, it's perfect: I get surround action in movies that it would normally be too loud, and there's very little direct panning in most movies that would be distracting.

In games, however, this leads to stuff in the rears sounding "closer" than they should. I'm playing through Dark Souls 3 for the first time, and it made EVERY beast sound like it was about to me from behind.. hence the need to rebalance.
Interesting. Totally makes sense.

So guys, Sony KD55XE90005 or LG OLED55B7V, for gaming purposes?

I have a tendency to pair my main console with the exact same brand. Meaning I've always paired my PS's with a Sony TV.

I know that OLED is in theory better, but I've read some stuff about burn-in image and panel degradation that makes me take a step back.

Therefore my dilemma. Let's say that hypothetically I could snug a Sony XE9005 for about 970 € and the B7 for 1240 €. Which one would you choose?

Help.

Anyone here have the X930e? Can you tell me if you see Vudu available in the Google Play Store? It has disappeared on me and this was the only way I could watch some UHD streams in HDR! I'm going mad trying to figure out why the app has gone missing !!

2020 shaping up to be a hell of a electronic year.

PS5, NextBox, and 77" OLED is my #2020goals.

Pricing on 70"+ OLED panels should be around the 6k mark at that time? Maybe? From 2017 to 2018, we saw the MSRP drop from 15k to 10k...

Picked up a TCL 6 series (R615) for the inlaws today. Will be testing it next week, hoping there's minimal or no banding. A little nervous lol.

Ha! I also startet thinking about a 2020 hardware battle plan. Ideally I wanna go for either a projector setup in a dark room with Dolby Atmos or whatever will be popular or yes, the wallpaper OLED... But they need to come down more and have VRR.

I wonder if this time Sony will work in parallel on a gaming TV within their departments.

Anyone have an issue with black uniformity on LED lit TVs? When I turn the local dimming off in particular I can notice a little bit of uneven patches that are a little lighter on a totally black screen.

And when I turn on local dimming I think I can see a slight difference in the uniformity, it's almost like the places where black bars for movies would be are darker and the middle is slightly brighter.

It's a 2017 Vizio, still within the warranty.

Uniformity varies panel to panel with lcd TV's, some are better than others, and panels can and do vary even with the same model television.

Does Monoprice always charge $17 for standard shipping? I don't mind paying the money but the principle of paying $17 for shipping a < 1 lbs item is killing me.

Not sure. I buy on occasion but don't remember it being that much.

They do sell some stuff via Amazon, so if it's on there (and you're prime) that might be cheaper? Haven't actually ever directly compared what they price at on AZ versus on their own site.

I'm thinking $4-$5,000 on the OLED prices, LGD's new factory will be fully operational by holiday 2020. We really need that 88" to come out and drop the 70" models from flagship status.

If you've ever looked at the inside of an LED TV, it's actually very basic and almost primitive how they're lit up. So it's no surprise that they have wide tolerances in brightness uniformity.

Yes this is not bug but a feature. Some panels are better than others but it's crapshoot.

Thanks, I'll take a look there too!

RedlineRonin Edit: just bought them on Monoprice. With the sale, the price was cheaper than elsewhere even with the $17 shipping charge.

p.s. I read your PDF last night on the ferry. SUPER helpful. Do you have any more recommended reading around how to actually wire? So my basement is only framed now, and effectively a blank slate. With that said, what's the best way to lay this cable? Behind the studs, in front, along the floor, etc.

Aright, don't think it's bad enough to take it back. I've heard a microfibre cloth may somehow help.

You guys think a professional TV calibration is really worth $500?
Absolutely not

i think generally you go through the header vertically once you're in the section between studs you want and the run across the floor joists above the ceiling if it's all bare. To be clear, I have not done this myself. My on wall and in ceiling stuff has been a lot more hacked together since the walls were mostly closed.

Good question for the builder probably. Also maybe GearDraxon knows better on that one.

Can anyone answer my question about how Black Frame Insertion works? My understanding is that is smooths out motion for 60fps content? Is that correct? I played Gears 4 with it enabled last night and the motion was really clear.

It inserts a black frame between every frame. Makes motion clearer, but darkens the image. You might notice flickering as well.

So let's say $5000 + $1000 for the PS5 and XB2 in 27 months (guessing Sept/Oct release).

$222 to stash away a month. Completely doable lol.

As with all things, the longer you wait, the better your options. Black Friday sales are a thing, given that margin on audio products (on the retailer end) is at least 50%.

Oh yeah I mean BF...for when the basement is ready. Basically I had planned to get a Sonos system for now and *maybe* eventually get a proper 5.1 system, but if it's wired I might as well do it right???
