Kind of sucked there is no tag, maybe something they add in down the line. Admittedly I didn't play it that much, but it was fun to mess around with every once in awhile.

I'm okay with no tag mode. Then again, I'm one of those people who prefer the gimped PS1 ports of games like MvC where tag was removed and secondary characters were assist only.

For a new character I would really like it if they made the Bancho schoolgirl concept art of Nyotengu into a character, I love how psycho she looks. As for guest characters I would be happy if Mai comes back since I really liked her but never got a chance to use her much, also 2B would be good but that might be just me wishing that the Momiji mods I see on youtube became real :P

yerjcui-jpg.16940

Also, I know they don't want to go too hard with fanservice at the beginning like with vanilla DOA5 but they better put Nyotengu's black biker outfit on release!

I wonder what changes are going to be made to the hold system. I know people hated that, and said it was the reason DOA isn't viable as a competitive title.

I would be hyped about these streams but may have to wait till gamecom or evo to get some real streams to watch. I want to see how parries have changed, if bounds are in, if the usual movement displacement is still in. These things I can't tell from trailers, the press is usually none too interested.

I'm glad it's being toned down to look more natural, but... did people seriously think the breasts would not move, like... at all?

Everywhere you could think, people claiming to be long-time fans and talking about the toned down sexualization and shit. I don't really care, but if these people really were fans of DOA, they wouldn't have said anything since we've been through this before for vanilla DOA5.

I think they kinda messed up the reveal a bit in that regard and funnily enough put more focus on the fanservice or lack of than if they had just been more straight forward about it. Something along the lines of

"We want a more serious approach for the story and overall presentation of the game but of course the large portion of our fanbase who enjoys the more fanservicy aspects won't be disappointed as alternative non story costumes ranging from cool to sexy will of course be included"

"We want more realistic physics for this game that aren't quite ready yet, that's why at the moment there is no jiggle present. The final game will allow you to toggle between no jiggle or our improved more realistic one"

would have gone a long way avoiding some of the backlash and discussion

Now they basically had to do what they probably wanted to avoid with this kind of reveal. Talk about jiggle physics at e3 in an interview on twitch

This game's reveal and initial messaging has left me pretty cold, and I'm not one to trust vague insinuations, regarding certain types of content. Of course, there's still much that needs to be seen, and thankfully, the release window seems fairly small, so we should get a better idea of the full product, sooner rather than later.

The fact that they need to assuage fans that there will be a toggle for horrible breast physics at all is exactly the problem with the perception of this franchise. They should decide to cater to the types of fans that are crying about its absence, or not. Because, from the gameplay we've seen, they haven't addressed the largest problem regarding the perception of the franchise with the competitive scene.

I assume Kasumi does still have her classic garb in the game? It would be odd if not.

I've never bought costume DLC, when I saw how they had hundreds of dollars of it for DoA5, it's to me almost like the gambling loot boxes thing. In that, it felt they were taking advantage of some of their customers.

Me, I like DOA, it's a fun simple to pick up arcadey fighter. But the anime-inspired sexy look of the gal fighters is a big part of the game. If not, well, it's a simpler Virtua Fighter.

Also I don't think the bounce should be a bad thing, at least if they have a subtle one. I get why it's funny to some, but it is also just an attempt at reality. It'd be like saying hair can't move in a game. But why anything is taboo is a cultural quagmire of course.

Also, Tina is the best character. I think really DOA2 on Dreamcast was this series at it's freshest. DOA2 Ultimate and DOA4 were great too, and 5 was solid. This I may skip, but I'll keep an eye on it.

Anyone have a link to this twitch interview talking about physics by the way?

Good news.

That new costume is terrible.
In concept, I like the bodysuit costume; in execution, I agree it kinda sucks. Admittedly, what I'd want would be a bit more pervy, while one assumes it was designed with the game's tamer focus in mind. It'll be interesting to see how the OG costumes is handled.

I'm sure jiggles and sexiness are still in the game. They are just hiding it now for marketing purposes. They did the same thing with DOA 5 only to bring back sexiness in DLC and subsequent versions. They need sex to sell all their overpriced DLC outfits. They are probably just keeping things serious and toned down to attract the hardcore FGC until the game launches.

Original DOA5 reveal trailer, eerily similar to DOA6 reveal in tone...

XD No hint of sexiness and we know what happened after the game launched.

EDIT:

Jiggle confirmed

The FGC don't care much one way or the other about the fan service, toning down those aspects being more about being presentable from an eSports perspective. It's the gameplay that the FGC don't care for, which hasn't changed significantly enough to appeal to them based on what's been presented so far.

You're right. It probably has to do with esports than the FGC. DOA5 will never be big in the FGC due to its gameplay and I honestly don't have a problem with that. Its gameplay is one of its greatest strengths IMO.

True, but to be fair this was advertised as a preorder incentive:

And this was bundled (and, once again, marketed) with special edition at launch:

They had a definite push to be more serious, but they also made it clear it wasn't a complete removal of their past.

Pretty disappointed that they dropped sidestepping (even if it was felt unfinished in DOA5) and brought in meter to the series. If they really had to bring in meter to the series I wish holds required you to spend some of it.

Otherwise I generally like what I am seeing a lot. I love this series so I am absolutely in day one regardless. I have high hopes the PC version will be pretty good this time, too!

The FGC isn't this single entity though -- at best, it's a loose federation of a number of communities for individual games. Honestly, they should just focus on making a game that dedicated players would want to dive into and build a community naturally. If players from other games give the game a look, then that's great... but generally SF players want to play SF, Tekken players want to play Tekken, and so on. You need to ultimately convince people (casual, core players, whoever -- everyone's money is good) that they want to play DoA so that they continue engaging with the game so you can then sell them lots of DLC outfits. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

The people decrying the lack of sexy in this game are just nuts, though. Are we looking at the same characters? Or do they want everyone's default to be a Venus swimsuit? Maybe Team Ninja should make nun habits as a DLC outfit for these guys. :V (Hey, if nothing else, it's probably someone's fetish...)

On another note, I know it's early and the systems aren't tuned, but I don't really like how the new mechanics are implemented so far. Fatal Rush only being interruptible by Break Parries seems insane -- it seems like every time you get a stun, you should just go for the Fatal Rush combo for easy guaranteed damage if they don't have any meter. And on the flip side of that (and it may be directly playing into that?), people seem to gain meter really fast in this build. It always seems like the special strikes and holds are on deck, almost to the point where meter management isn't much of a concern.

One thing I found funny about the Twitch interview was that when they announced online, the directory basically came out and said "yeah we're working on fixing the lag". Hopefully they're serious about that, as DoA5 now has one of the worst online experiences of any major fighting game (and this is in a genre that generally has shitty online play). I know that asking for a best-in-class experience (like KI or Skullgirls) is almost certainly hoping for too much, but I hope they at least manage to match what Namco and Sega managed with Tekken 7 and VF5:FS.

Pretty sure the VV characters were at least partly designed by DMM anyway, so there's probably a rights issue.
Will EVO build be the same of E3?
Asia again in some months :p
Seriously it will all depend on the state of their build at that point.
Jiggle confirmed

Good to have a confirmation, hopefully this will calm some fans down...
As many were saying, it's probably just removing the stupid OMG mode (should have disappeared a long time ago) and marketing talk.
It hasn't been shown, but apparently she does. The costume was confirmed in the Twitch interview, posted above.
There again, not surprising but good to have a confirmation.
It's like DOA5's default costume for Kasumi, it's not her classic one.
Hell,I wouldn't be surprised if it's preorder DLC or something, but it's normal that by focusing on eSports their default costumes would be tamer.

I think that despite those clarifications this is the DOA5 marketing done right tbh. The press/media is actually biting into it this time.

Bayman in a speedo or we riot.

Lol, that reminds me that Zack doesn't have a navel. I wonder if all the male character models won't have one. That would look so weird, especially in speedos, and would imo be a very weird decision. Though Team Ninja also decided to give Jecht no nipples in Dissida...

The modelling of the male form is of the utmost importance.

I'm confused as to what universe a slender ninja with huge breasts in a skin tight leather suit would be "removing sexiness."

This isn't directed at you, just at the general sentiment regarding this game.
Kasumi has larger than average breasts, especially by her genetic standards, but they certainly aren't huge in this case. Especially not when SCIV exists.

I agree with your message btw, just nitpicking lol.

I agree with the first part. That's pretty much what SFV did. Default costumes and animations are safe for a wider eye, but get deeper in and you find the cheesecake (and beefcake).

The latter, tho, no. Just say the physics engine isn't finished and be done with it. No need to be outright about breasts or not.
Here's the full answer. They also confirmed minor clothing destruction like rips and stuff. Probably along the lines of the Arkham games.
Can somebody explain how this worked in 5? Is it tied to health, just getting hit gradually, or level-based like SC?

The director confirmed that yeah. Post was in the previous discussion thread, from a famitsu interview I think.

No tag?

WTF wasnt tag and tag combos a big part of DOAs identity?
Tag has been a thing since I think DOA2

This better have been a mistake lost in translation, they must have been talking about what they brought to E3....yeah no Tag in the E3 build, but full game will have Tag.

thats gotta be it.
