I'm ashamed to admit that I use the 360 directional control scheme over classic tank controls when I played REmake and RE:0 Remaster. I don't mind the modern control scheme in this since it is 2018, but I really was hoping for fixed camera since that's what added to the beauty of the pre-rendered backdrops in the remasters.

Not surprisingly, Chief Irons role seems to be expanded as well.

I love that Capcom add joke/humor on File/Note.

The producer confirmed ink ribbons in the game and basically said it will only be implemented in a special difficulty mode. I am sure there is going to be some classic mode. I have a really strange feeling that this classic mode will have classic cameras.

I heard one of the streams fought a licker, does anyone have a picture. Favorite resident evil enemy but the ones in 5 were so lame. The licker-type things in 6 were cool though

May have been Easy Allies or the Capcom stream with community members, but it was mentioned that the Licker encounter was removed from the demo. No stream seems to have shown it beyond the window appearence.

It's pretty disappointing how lickers (and by extension dogs breaking windows) encounters don't seem to be randomized in this, I mean they're changing the locations but it'll just get old after beating the game at least once.

The most important question for me is, is there a classic RE melee attack?

The knife is there, and you can use it as a defense item to prevent bites just like REmake, downside is that the knife ha mes limited uses and can break.

Unclear if the durability decreases when slashing zombies or only when you use it as a defense item. You can cover your knife from the body of zombies you stabbed as a defense item.

Wow that's great, I can see there are new puzzles and cutscenes. Like the Resident Evil remake, this will expand on the game a little bit more. I'm quite looking forward to this.

From watching the various streams it seems like Zombies will vary wildly in how much damage they can take. Some of them seem almost invincible with the amount of shots they require. Add that variance with fact that there is no definite (as it stands now) way to see if they are dead, like the classic pool of blood that OG 2 had and Zombies begin to feel like a legitimate threat. It feels like an evolution of the same concept from Remake, where you were constantly worried about Zombies returning as Crimson heads, adding another layer of tension. I personally hope that they don't change that aspect of the Zombies, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do add some sort of indicator.

Also, with the new limb mechanics, could it be more efficient to shoot off a zombies limbs instead of going for headshots? If you take away their arms and legs they can't really follow you.

One can hope. If given the choice, definitely still playing this in OTS first as the game seems to be designed around that.

I sorta went into media blackout a while ago, I think the last thing I watched entirely was the GameSpot stream, but it's hard not to be excited about the whole thing. :|

I saw it live, it's a little stupid, he shoot directly in the brain after the shotgun blast with around 6 bullets and he didn't even die lol

I think in this game you need to destroy the WHOLE brain in order to get a headshot, even half the brain destroyed doesn't do it.

I personally like it though, I think making the zombies tough to kill helps aid this to be more tense and horror than an action game.

Honestly i think it's more of a "glitch" tied to difficulty not being properly balanced yet in the demo. It's cool to have seriously threatening zombies, but that's T900-levels of durability lol

This is nitpicky, but I wish some of the textures you see close up - like desks when the camera snaps to a lock puzzle - weren't so low-res.

There's still time for work to be done on some textures i guess - I remember the initial RE7 beginning hour demo, the difference between some of the wall textures in that Vs the release game were pretty major

Yeah but in RE7 you don't get the first backpack until after the first boss fight, when you reach the Old House. That's like 3 hours later into the game on a first playthrough.

Not to mention in RE7, bigger weapons like the Shotgun takes up 2 inventory slots, while in REmake 2 it only takes one.
From the demo itself it looks like there's significantly more items than in RE2 or in RE7 for the matter. I think more space will be justified.

EDIT: Also RE7 had 4 spaces maped on d-pads, but doesn't seems to be case here. Leon's gun is in standart inventory slot. So RE7 technically started with 12 spaces.

Damn I think there's almost more puzzles in this demo than all of RE2
It's true, RE2 honestly had the weakest puzzles out of all the older games. There's 8 things in RE2 that could remotely be called 'puzzles', three of them are pushing puzzles (one puzzle as Sherry/Ada you push crates to make a bridge to cross, one puzzle you push two statues to face another statue, and another crate puzzle in the B scenario before the labs to get to a ledge you can climb), and two puzzles have the answers directly in notes (the Locker combination puzzle and the registration name puzzle). The other three puzzles are a puzzle you flip switches to equal a certain amount, a puzzle you place card symbols down in a specific order, and a puzzle you move bookshelves by seeing the order they go in after you fall through the floor.

This one slice of REmake 2 honestly has better puzzles than the original RE2 I would say.

Music to my ears! I really like the puzzles and the focus on taking the hectic pace of modern games down several steps. I want to soak in the atmosphere and feel like I'm there.

Dunno if anyone spotted that already:
In the Famitsu video, Leon doesn't get bit by the first zombie and he's fine in the cutscene:

In the IGN demo though, he gets bit in the neck and the mark remains during the cutscene:

I was the biggest cynic about this going in, Resident Evil 2 has been my favourite game since it's release, and the thought of Capcom re-doing it, had me incredibly concerned. The initial trailer at E3 had me sold, but the gameplay we've been shown after, all my doubts are gone. It's Resident Evil 2 with a 2018 paint job, the tension, the atmosphere, everything. Bravo Capcom, bravo.

There's still people saying fixed camera angles would increase the tension and make the game more "horror"?

Asking for a friend.

Looks like a mix of the best elements from RE7 and Revelations. Me likey. Some of the blood decals look horribly low Res though (when Leon crawls under the shutter) what's up with that?

This is a very bias comment considering all those indie games that are pitch black and not scary or atmospheric whatsoever. Tank controls are the root of RE so it only makes sense a remake of an old game should have these controls, at least as an option. Purism isn't inherently bad, tank controls aren't objectively bad and lighting has fuck all to do with how scary a game is or not. Some of the scariest moments in SH for me happen at day/with light source.

A game shouldn't need bad/restricted/outdated controls to be scary or atmospheric.
