FWIW, LRG support won't let my brother cancel his CSH Vita purchase so he can buy the switch version later on. I know that's the policy and all that, but it just feels a bit disingenuous that they'd put preorders up and then immediately announce the Switch version two weeks later, which would've most likely cannablized PS4/Vita sales. As a result, they've pretty much lost him as a customer.

Come on, the timing made it pretty clear that they want to maximize sales by having people double-dip on the physical releases. Your brother can sell his copy when it arrives and buy the Switch one later on, but I get why they did it as a company and this wasn't really the first time they've done this.

I know it wasn't a cool move, but that's how things are

If you've been following our progress, you know that we've wanted to do a Switch version for quite some time, that we've been looking into working a publisher to get it on Switch, and that we weren't planning on announcing anything until everything was finalized. We submitted the Switch version to Nintendo at around the beginning of the month & passed Nintendo's final approval process right before E3 so it was the ideal time to announce it.

I apologize to anyone who ordered the PS4 or Vita version who would rather have a Switch version. On the plus side, neither version oversold (they were pretty much right on par with expectations) so if you want to sell them later, you should be able to at the bare minimum recoup your cost, if not make a profit.

I know that, but there are plenty of people that don't, and even I didn't want to miss out on a physical if you guys hadn't confirmed one for switch, let alone a digital release. I dunno, it just doesn't feel great. A quick "hey guys, this isn't 100% yet but we're making progress on getting CSH onto switch and if it does there will almost certainly be a physical" would've gone a long way :/

For my brother, it's moreso the principal of the matter. He feels "gotcha'd" by the whole affair and it's really put him off. Shrug. I don't want to speak too much for him, though.

Personally, I'm more in line with Shizuka. I've already rebought several games on switch, and I expect that to keep happening until Switch catches up with PS4. I can't help it; I love buying Nintendo carts. Play-Asia basically did the same thing with Dimension Drive; had they announced the switch physical versions I would've just gone for a standard copy of that instead of the PS4 collectors. Similarly, would I prefer to own just one CSH collectors edition (assuming the switch version comes with a steelbook)? Absolutely.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to comment, Robert. I'm still super excited to get my physical copy of CSH. Can't wait to finally play it :)

I get that this type of thing is annoying (I'd gladly cancel my PS4 CSH for the Switch edition if it were possible), but I never understand people's outrage when a company explicitly states 'this is the rule' from day one and are then surprised when the company won't break that rule to suit them.

Yes, the timing was unfortunate, but given the run times on Switch releases I can see this being a recurring issue going forward. I think its just a case of managing expectations the best you can, and allotting funds to try and cover these scenarios where possible. The second hand market is usually quite stable, so your brother will most likely break even on the Vita version. I realise this isn't an instant fix, but dipping out of the LRG entirely seems a bit fatalistic.

Timing aside, the "all sales are final" is a key part of LRG's business plan. They're a tiny company & their profit margin is low (since after production/shipping costs, most of the profit goes to the developers/publishers of the games) but they manage to thrive because they minimize their risk. Opening up the floodgates to mass refunds whenever a new port is announced is the kind of thing that could put them out of business. Same thing for a lot of indie developers (us included) - most of us teeter on the edge of staying in business & not and trying to convince people not buy our game now but wait for a better version that may come at some later date isn't a great business plan.

it's funny that this drama popped up as i'm debating to either get va11-halla on vita or risk it and wait for the PS4 version to get a physical announced if it ever does happen along side the switch version

I feel a bit burned by the CSH announcement too, and it definitely will effect my future PS4/Vita purchases. That was the only part of the E3 conference that was a real negative for me.

I wonder what the chances of LRG working with XSEED on Fate Extella Link Vita physical are now they have that relationship in place. They'd have to submit the product code request like now so it seems unlikely, really hoping they can make it work though.

Looks like Atelier never came to fruition though. So sad, stupid Koei-Tecmo Japan.

It would be cool to have a physical English copy of Extella Link on Vita (didn't even know it wasn't getting one until just now)- I have the Japanese versions on PS4 and Vita, and the Vita port is really well done. Looks and runs better than the original game did.

Although I'm hoping for a Switch port announcement.

I honestly don't feel burnt. If its a game I like, I don't mind owning it on multiple platforms. Weird I know, but I'm that kind of guy. Also, for those that have or are getting a Switch, this is a great way to get a game you missed out on the first time.

Was walking out of E3 a little while ago for the final time and bumped into the LimitedRunGames guys Josh and Doug.

Said hello and thanks for the Vita games. Been here since before Breach and Clear over on GAF. The ride's almost ending.

The difference with ROM was that Midboss straight up cancelled the Vita port right before LRGs sale only for them to say "jk nevermind" two months later

Also, those games weren't announced two weeks after preorders opened for other platforms. The sting is that it *feels* (regardless of what actually happened) like they waited to announce the switch version so it wouldn't hurt PS4/Vita sales, which it certainly would've if previous multiplat releases are anything to go by.

I will say that it's important to remember that, as I understand it, CSH is releasing in August as a digital release, not physical. Given that the PS4 has several rounds of patches, and that Switch cart production takes a while, we may not even get the CSH Switch physical in hand until well into 2019.

I dunno, I don't really consider this drama. I've always tried to give thoughtful criticism to the guys when, as a fan, a business decision irks me. I'm not bringing out my pitchfork or announcing a boycott, I'm just giving them some feedback like I usually do because, ultimately, I like LRG a lot and want to see them continue to thrive.

Also, dang, I didn't realize Va11-halla was getting a Switch/PS4 release. I do want to play the game, but I'm pretty done with the Vita at this point (not like I was ever really in it to begin with, I guess). I think I'm willing to roll the dice and bet on it getting a Switch physical down the line. If it never happens I don't think I'll be that hurt about not owning it.

Somehow I expect this to not be as big as some are thinking and will likely be something like Omega Labyrinth Z (let's be honest here, that game isn't selling more than a higher print LRG run in the first place). Pqube has remained silent on it for months and keeps saying that news is coming for it, which considering it's been banned in multiple countries, having a minimum copy guarantee from LRG makes it easier to potentially make something back on it. Having LRG do it would allow them to get around the ban and still be able to sell in said countries, which would also likely prevent any fires from starting from some of their fanbase (you know which ones) in case they either had to cancel it or edit it instead.

Could be that they've already signed it as well and this tweet is for something else.

I'd still consider that pretty big, since I'm feeling fairly negative about Omega Labyrinth at the moment and don't feel like we'll get it in any capacity.

Although that'll be an interesting partnership, since I'm fairly certain PQube were competing against LRG for Fata Morgana.

I hope that LRG tries to get a hat in time to physical, I love that game and truly deserves it (with the ost included in special edition)

If I recall correctly, I believe Josh said a Hat in Time is Humble Bundle and they haven't announced any plans for physical, nor have they been very interested in working with LRG (paraphrasing).

I remember them saying they don't care about a physical release and to stop asking on Twitter. Lol.

Oceahorn (Switch) is still available, a week after it's been up for sale, with a 5000 print. Guess Switch isn't that impressive, even compared to some PS4 and Vita runs.

We told people Super Hydorah was coming to Vita most likely later but we couldn't comment too much since it wasn't even ready for Vita at the time. Even the publisher/developers told people.

ROM Vita came out of nowhere and we were pretty keen on not doing it originally, but everyone here asked for it, so I guess we shouldn't do it?

Dariusburst Vita was never ever signed and wasn't kept secret, it wasn't until people starting asking about Vita that we realized we hadn't even signed it. We were under an agreement after that, that if the PS4 did well we could do Vita.

I don't get why people bitch so much about platforms. If you didn't want it on PS4 - don't buy it.

Also, you can easily sell it for more than you paid without being a dirty scalper if you want to buy on another platform later on. I've done this a few times myself while making a few extra dollars for the effort.

The whole point of this is to have digital come tp physical. Just keep doing what you guys do LimitedRunGames !

Probably because the game came out already on PS4 and in my case I got my physical copy of Oceanhorn last summer and don't need another one.

On Oceanhorn... there were two skus for it, so it's actually sold a lot more than what you are seeing. We are about out of the first run.

Ummmm.....but you're not canceling that release now, are you? About to sell my PS4 copy but if I did that and you cancel the PSV version, the joke's on me, I guess. :)

What else is coming in June? Or do we know everything? (wouldn't be a bad thing, wallet-wise!)

Guess I'm getting Musynx this week for both. Already have my Switch copy coming in tomorrow too. Why not have options?
