Maybe he is holding it sideway... For me it looks like Yamato
The scabbard's (or any katana's, really) width, whether from the sides or the top, are practically the same. It wouldn't really make it look thin like that.
this is only a few years between DMC 4 and 5 and lady is pretty young still, how is she supposed to have a kid in that time?
How long was the time between DMC3 and DMC4? I always found it weird whatever Nero's age is when you look at Dante. (I said Dante because he's the only one we can compare him with and he's the same age as Vergil anyway) So either Vergil had him when he was really young or Dante's older than he looks. Then again, they're half-demons. I would be surprised if they aged normally.

Honestly, I'm not sure. Lady could have easily aged ten years between dmc3 and 4 though imo. If we were to assume Lady was around 18-19-20ish then should easily be in her late twenties by dmc4.

I could be totally off there but I don't think capcom has gone into specifics when it comes to characters age.

EDIT: I think lady is the best point of reference because she is just a mortal human
I could totally see v being her only gone through some weird experiment or something

DMC4 is like 15 years after DMC3 at least.

IIRC the timeline should be...

Pre DMC4 - Vergil came to Fortuna around 17/18.

Pre DMC 3 a year before - Vergil met Dante and feud with him. Thats why Dante wasn't surprised it was Vergil in DMC3's beginning.

DMC3 - Dante, Lady and Vergil were 19.

DMC1 - Dante is 29.

DMC4 - Since the DMC4 novel is half true so as a basis, Nero is prob 18. That would put Dante, Lady and Vergil at 36/37. So 7 to 8 years after DMC1.

Nero doesn't look like a drastic change in DMC5 so probably 7 or 8 years have pass after DMC4.

It's possible that the third person is Lady's son that she bore before DMC4 but the chances are it's Dante are slim because the son doesn't have white hair and Lady & Dante act like nothing have happen between them plus they work seperate.

According to the Japanese DMC twitter they will have a DMC5 related thing on Capcom TV (I assume that's on twitch) on the 20th. Hopefully no one will cut Itsuno off this time.

And so the wild mass guessing begins. Perhaps it's better for our sanity to avoid wildly guessing about the new character until more info is released?

Nah, that's the fun !

I'm so happy to read about the secret message in the video clip + theories about Lady x Dante because that's what I thought when I looked the art box closely. The arms of "V" : to me it might be a teenager. And his black hair -> Lady. I always thought it was strange to have a son for Vergil and any for Dante. So to me it was time ! I really hope it is (please don't be some kind of emo though).

Wasnt lady like 16 in DMC3? I remember her being younger than the twins. The whole 'i have no name' thing could be in reference to nero being an orphan. Or it could be in reference to neros devil bringer.

Either V is the physical manifestation of that arm. Or its vergil whose possessed another body due to his original being corrupt and or controlled by another being. I dont think V has anything to do with lady.

Just came across this video. Why is this dumb series about the cheesiest plot in the world getting me so emotional dammit haha.

A good recount of the time the power of baseless hype and spite that lasted ten years led us to this moment.

So I'm playing that reboot called DmC by Ninja Theory ( which is amazing btw). Where does that come in that timeline? Or is it ignored totally?

Fans loved that game SO much that they decided to not sully it by producing any sequels or attaching it to the mainline series. It is too bad you were around when it was coming out, Ninja Theory had this awesome, respectful relationship with the fans of Devil May Cry. People were super stoked about that game. Everyone was so happy...

DmC Definitive Edition is a good game, people need to relax for real.

I'm glad DMCV is on PC. Just realized. I might pick it up there.

DmC DE could be my third favourite. 1>3>DmC

It's not reaching the highs of DMC4's combat but it is all round a much more solid thing. A softer implementation of the formula that gives you that feeling of stylish power more quickly. It has its place in the series.

On the question of DMC4, how are people feeling about Legendary Dark Knight mode for DMCV? I can't imagine them getting it to work on current gen consoles but PC surely?

Reason I'm thinking on it now is I've finally got around to my LDK playthrough for the first time and well it's pretty crazy I guess

Not part of the original series as it's a reboot, so completely ignored.
Ok gotcha, so treat DmC as a standalone, for some reason I thought it was a good starting point to get back into it. I assumed the art style kinda translated over to the new game as Nero does have similar art style to the Dante from DmC. Was curious as I've only played the first one ages ago and this new entry (5) looks amazing.

Thanks.

^^ Ushay You'll probably want to check out 3 and 4 also.

3 is dated but still maybe the most intense gameplay wise and has a cool story. 4 has better enemies than 3, but is extremely uneven with a kind of shit story.

It's not a bad choice. DmC, specifically the Definitive Edition, is a good gateway into the series/genre.

Yeah, I can promise you 100% we could get exactly the same trailer with "DmC 2" at the end (which I agree it kinda looks like) and many people who are saying how amazing this looks would instead shit on the character designs, the new graphical style etc. etc. I guess that's just how it goes.

I did since its announcement, and I still believe that was the intention
This I can't really see, the messaging and push at the time was very keen on making it clear that this was the new Devil May Cry. DMC5 became the obvious thing when DmC didn't really expand the fanbase.

Think Itsuno said something to the effect that Devil May Cry would have died without a reboot and was a major proponent of it at the time (not entirely certain on this but it seems familiar)

Those fantasy scenarios from bitter DmC fans are getting hilarious.

Did you miss the beginning of the thread that was exactly that? People were like, "what?! it looks like Donte! What happened to my anime style!"

If anything, it lead credence to the DmC fans/journalists, who said that most of the initial DmC backlash was because of the artstyle and haircut. But that's neither here nor there, because your made up scenario wouldn't change much of the reaction, as long as Itsuno is attached to the project.

From what I remember, LDK has been the result of the devs gaining a surplus of CPU power over and above what the game was originally designed with. That means none of the current consoles are likely to get it since they all have basically the same CPU, and I'm not sure if the clock speed boosts on the Pro or X would be enough. Most likely it'll happen on PC, and maybe next-gen consoles via either BC patches or remasters.

It would be cool if one day there's a version of V with that mode. 4 is really rocky and might even be my least favourite of the series (reboot and DMC2 included) but I think this mode when playing as Nero comes close to redeeming it cause it's such pure silly fun.
