From the full-contact circuit racing to the demolition derbies, destructive fun is what Wreckfest is all about.
Metal bends and sparks fly in banger racing, the track-based racing mode inspired by Finnish folk racing.
With courses varying from rallycross courses to figure 8s, asphalt to gravel, the potential for danger and damage is high.
A driver making a clean getaway from the rest of the pack and a driver fighting their way to the front are both just as likely to win.
The brutal demolition derby is the perfect compliment to the racing action.
In the derby you'll have to fight with everything you've got to survive till the end of a chaotic free for all.
rWaqAUA.jpg

If your car isn't able to stand the punishment, maybe it's time to change things up with a new ride.
The car selection is varied, from European family cars to American muscle cars and Asian sports cars, there is a car for every driving style.
Finding cars too boring? Hop on a lawn mover for a new challenge!
If getting a new car seems too costly, there is another way to keep up with the competition. Your car can be fitted with new parts.
Finding a balance between performance and sheer destructive force is key as you fit your car with engine upgrades and
strenghten the body with rollcages, steel bumpers, and much more.

8Yog8QX.jpg

When racing the AI becomes too dull, you can take the action online.
Find a suiltable match with the server browser, or create your own session in-game or with the dedicated server tool!
If the included content and customization options aren't enough, the PC version has mod support.
With Steam Workshop integration, downloading new cars, tracks, and liveries is easy!

I remember buying this when it was first in early access, I'm still surprised it wasn't cancelled. Only tried it again last month after a bunch of updates started rolling out again and I was impressed, I thought it had been cancelled since the devs were radio silent for a long time. Been excited for release ever since, can't wait to see what the full launch build has to offer.

I get that game development isn't cheap but this game is way too expensive at the moment. Will wait for a price drop.

Every time I see this game's title I think someone made a new Wreckless game.
This game looks really cool, I thought it was dead a while ago and never kept up with it. Glad they were able to improve and finish it.

Probably the biggest turnaround I've witnessed when it comes to Early Access games thanks to THQ Nordic's involvement. Fantastic game which, strangely enough, satisfies an itch I haven't had since the good ol' Blur days.

Thanks. Hard to know with some games based on appearances alone.
I play on Automatic shifting with traction control and other aids set to half, and it feels like the game isn't controlling my car for me, while still making every corner not an instant spinout anymore. You can mix and match with off, half, and full for each of the driving aid options, and set shifting to manual, manual with clutch, and automatic.

I backed this years ago when it was known as Next Car Game. Can't wait to see all the things that have been added since I last checked it out. It's going to be a great game to unwind to after some intense Project Cars 2 sessions.

I havent kept up with the development of this game since the original tech demo years ago. Does this game include similar mini games like those in the old Flatout games?

Cool! I've had it on Early Access since the start but barely played it because it was so, well, early in development :P
Installing the full game now!

Hah, you start your game and obviously most will try career first, to get to know the game. You pick the only championship that's unlocked at the beginning, see a menu with a bunch of different contests, so the logical thing would be to pick the most upper-left one... Which is a lawnmower deathmatch.

Interesting way to introduce people to your game. I enjoyed it, though. Looking forward to smashing cars for the rest of the evening.

So how is the gameplay? All things considered - single player content and structure, AI, UI polish, bugs - can you say the game feels like a finished product?
I'm looking at change log posted above and some of the things indicate that the game was rushed into 1.0 version.

Definitely not rushed to release. The game was in a good state for months with this update being a polishing and UI update.

Single player content consists of championships which are a collection of events. Events are either Banger Races or Destruction Derby set on a variety of tracks with varying lap count, vehicle classes or AI drivers. These reward you with car customisation parts, XP and money.
You can also create custom events where you can change up some things, such as AI count, vehicles and ToD.
Nothing too crazy here. It's really all about the driving and crashing, which feel fantastic.

AI is good, sometimes really aggressive and generally challenging. Have not encountered rubber-banding.

Multiplayer: You can set up own custom servers and there's at least one official dedicated server. As you would expect, mp is the most fun you will have in this game. Pretty glorious.

UI polish: nothing crazy here either. It's serviceable and now even pretty fast.

Bugs are in multiplayer mainly with games not starting correctly, some server browser problems and some freezes here and there. Those tend to get fixed rather quickly after a new update. Expect a hotfix either tomorrow or on Monday.

Mods: Obviously, these really add to the game with new tracks, paint jobs, camera angles, particle effects, AI tweaks, etc. Most of them are not compatible with the current build right now and have to be updated but the creators are fairly quick to do so (some of them are also not allowed in mp - be aware of that).

I put in for this back when it was NCG and man it's come pretty far and that's without playing the finished version. I'll fire it up later tonight and check it out.

Am I crazy or did they do a paid beta/demo/early access outside of steam, on pc, for a while? Or was that a free demo? I thought I had this on early access (from an old website of theirs) a long time ago. Can't remember now.

Maybe I am confusing this with beamNG.

edit: ah looks like it was a demo of next car game. I think I actually paid for early access to beamNG drive a long time ago. I have no idea how to get that now.

Not a fan of renaming the tracks. I get why they did it but I liked the descriptive titles a bit more.
Btw, I'm glad that the addition of buses does not destroy mp races. Only a few people actually pick them and they are super slow, so they are not even a real threat.

Reinstalling now, haven't played for over a year or more since early access.

I hope more people do so mp will have a healthy amount of people to play with.

When I backed it, I had a 2600K. Now I have a 7700K. Madness

I was pleased to see the game has a three-wheeler, and equally pleased to see what race I needed to do in order to acquire it. :D

Yeah that was dumb to be honest, should've removed that and the other lawnmover race, to me it was weird and boring.

But besides that... This game is fantastic! I was just supposed to try it but ended up playing for 3 hours! It's Destruction Derby, and it's Awesome! =)

I've only played it with a controller so far, which worked great, the rumble felt nice and the controls are spot on. I'll try with a steering wheel next time.

Runs beautifully on my 1080ti on ultra as well, mostly 100-144fps. It'll be interesting to hear about the console performance later on, if they can get it up to 60fps on the X I might rebuy it there to easier get some family play time.

All in all I'm really positively surprised, haven't played since a super janky Early Access version. It's great now! This is what I wanted from OnRush, takeouts + racing! The demolition, the weight to the cars, the controls. It's all great! The engine sound could be better though, great on some cars but annoying on others.

It's finally out! Man, I had so many doubts during early access, I fully expected that the game went to shit. Good to see it having positive reviews, I'll definitely play it when I get home.

The lawnmower demolition derbies were popular back when I played the game more online. I can see why it's in there but I agree, odd choice for the first race of the championship.

I got this on steam back when it was in early access, I stopped playing several months after the last update (last update at the time, I think the update was that they had completely redone the physics) after I saw a post on the steam forum page for the game asked why the updates stopped and someone noted that the dev had gone belly up. It made me sad since I wanted to see the game completed. Ended up uninstalling the game. Im glad the game development suddenly came back to life and it finally got updated and polished. Will give the game another try.

Guys, it's really simple for me: is it the sequel to Flatout 2 or not? (in all but the name of course)

Booted it up again last night, and it's really solid. The straight up Destruction Derby takes me back to the really early PlayStation days of glory, and the races feel weighty and fun.

I bought this when it was next car game, it was essentially a soft body physics tech demo, and since the development team seemingly vanished I thought I had wasted my money. I can't believe this is actually coming out, downloading now and will report on quality later.

Everything I see from this game makes it seem like the true FlatOut sequel we never got. Don't get me wrong, I loved FlatOut 2, but it was closer to Burnout than FlatOut, to be honest. That incredible level of destruction, those heavy cars (FlatOut 4 got close), that atmosphere... damn, too bad this is only coming in November on consoles, but then again this June would have been a bloodbath, releasing between OnRush and The Crew 2.

Yup it's like Destruction Derby 1 on steroids, I love the weighty feel of the cars and physics, the first car you get (not the lawnmover) had a reeealy nice feel, use the handbrake in every turn and just stomp on the gas, so much fun!
