Just saw it as well. Loved it, easily as good as the first. Not a bland scene in it, I loved every single moment.

Sounds like my fears of I2 being a letdown were for naught. This is great news.

I was a bit worried after how disappointed I was with Coco

Super pumped with those reviews ... only to see that this movie doesn't start in Germany until September 27th ... wtf Disney?

This is such a strange take and I've seen it on Era before despite it not making sense. L

He has directed made two live action films. One was bad, one was fantastic. He shouldn't stop making them because Tomorrowland was bad.
I wonder if Tomorrowland didn't have enough studio input or something and they let Bird go too far in a few places. Because he can make a good movie, live action or animated.

"may not quite live up to the original."

When I saw the trailers, this is the impression I got :(

Oh well. I still plan on seeing it (although I said the same thing about Finding Dory and I STILL haven't seen that yet, lol)

Saw it on Monday.

It's a lot of fun, with some of the best action sequences I've seen in a while. Seriously, Bird uses the camera here better than 90% of live action films.

It's not as tightly executed as the first though, and the villain in particular is a lot weaker.

Really, really loved it. It exceeded my expectations for a long shot. Incredible animation, too.

Only problem I had was I felt the ending was a little rushed, but they were definitely running into overtime so I'll accept it.

Honestly, this film is one of the rare blockbusters these days with amazingly staged action. Bird knows his shit and puts all the other superhero action scenes of late to absolute shame.
The blocking of some of the scenes is top notch and the creativity injected into the action is worth admiring. Makes Infinity War's much-touted superhero action look flat as shit.

There's actually a great interview with Bird that just came out where he speaks about his approach to choreographing setpieces.

https://nowtoronto.com/movies/features/brad-bird-director-incredibles-2/

Did the live-action set pieces of Ghost Protocol and Tomorrowland inform how you approached Incredibles 2? Was there anything you picked up working with physical people and props that changed your perspective for animation?

Not really. I think I've always kind of been doing action sequences like that. There are some action sequences in Iron Giant that are fairly complex. I think it's more that animation was my gateway drug to live action, and it made me study the filmmakers and the films that I admire. There's a lot to learn about staging from people like David Lean, Steven Spielberg and James Cameron. I've looked at a lot of that stuff trying to figure out why it works so well. So I think that it's more that live action has influenced my animation, which made the transition to live action easier.

One thing I'd say you share with those filmmakers is a respect for clarity – you'll zoom in on something or cut very quickly, and there can be a lot going on in a given sequence but we always understand where everyone is and what they're doing. It's visual geography.

Well, yes. And a lot of people don't do that well. There are people who are good at chaotic filmmaking, like Paul Greengrass, but Paul Greengrass spawned a lot of terrible imitators. And it was because they looked and saw shaky camera and a lot of rapid cuts and close-ups and they thought, "Hey, I can do that!" And so they shake the camera a lot, they have a lot of loud sounds and close-ups. But the thing is, they're not Paul Greengrass. If you look at Paul Greengrass's stuff in slow motion, a little bit at a time, there's a logic behind it. Your brain is being prepared for the next image. It is more chaotic than [the work of] somebody like James Cameron, but there is still the same respect for the idea that the brain works this way. How can you work with the way the brain works. [Whereas] Cameron can do these incredibly complex, fast, cutting patterns, and you're never lost for a second because he knows how to stage action. All of that stuff I find endlessly fascinating.

The Incredibles came out at a point in time when superhero movies were the exception, not the rule. Did that make it trickier to devise the big set pieces for the sequel? I mean, Marvel and DC are doing cataclysmic action sequences every other month now.

I'm a little pickier about that stuff. I see a lot of superhero films where, even though the hero looks realistic, it's actually an animated scan of the person and the animation isn't first-rate. Sometimes it is, but a lot of times you get what you see in Hancock, where Hancock gets hit by a semi truck and then the truck flips and you go, "How much does Hancock weigh? Four tons? There's no indication anywhere that he weighs that much! He's gonna get knocked back!" In the Incredibles [films] I really push the animators hard to try to convincingly portray crazy physics. When Bob [Mr. Incredible] gets hit by a train, he caves in the front of the train. He doesn't stop the train, but his feet break every single [rail] tie, and that eventually slows down the train. Now, that I can believe. I don't believe Hancock.

Nail meet head. Commence hitting.

Bird is just so incredibly talented. Live action super hero flicks action sequences simply don't compare to what he accomplishes here. You can remove the super hero disclaimer as well. Top of the class action that is equally exciting as it is beautiful to look at.

This movie was much tighter and funnier than I would've thought and thematically a Pixar short has never counterbalanced the features themes more precisely - family.

I still wish Brad would've taken Kathy and George's offer for VII. This film reaffirms why he was their first choice.

It was also great to hear Giachinno in peak form. Be sure to stay through the credits.

Bravo Incredibles 2.

The elastibike scene was AMAZING and Jack Jack was so cute I could die. I don't think any scene beats the island scene from the first one where the kids fight for the first time but what a great movie. I wish Dash did more though. They didn't give him a lot of open space to run.

All positive so far.

The wait till July is going to hurt, why do we get it a month after everyone else.

I'll guess I'll watch The Adventures of Mr. Incredible for the 11th time whilst waiting then.

Saw this today. I definitely agree with the B+ sentiments, and that is only because I compare it to the extremely high quality of titles they have put out in the past. This one works well, but it is definitely middle of the road compared to their best.

Just saw it. Thought it was awesome and almost as good as the first. I grew up on The Incredibles (was 4 or 5 when it first came out, have seen it many times since) and I was prepared to be disappointed a la Finding Dory but instead I was blown away and really loved it (along with my friends). Hopefully we get a third one, The Incredibles is high-key my favorite superhero franchise lol.

Movie was fantastic

  • It improves on the original in so many ways
  • Like Bob's job thing was mostly glossed over in a montage, but Elastigirl got so many action setpieces it was kind of incredible
  • And the home life, the heart of the movie, was given a lot of focus as well
  • Violet's character was fantastic, and I really love how both her and Dash got to
be the hero by the end
  • The focus on Elastigirl was a good one because she's such a powerful character
  • I've never seen a movie that was so fun to just, watch
  • The movie was really funny without forcing it
  • The character theme songs, my God
  • The music was amazing as all ways
  • The main antagonist, while not as entertaining or as charming as Syndrome, was good in a different way. I do like how they
had a point about the superficiality of superheroes and society's obsession with having other people solve our problems
  • Re: Literally any scene with Elastigirl and Evelyn

It was shockingly average I thought. While the action was incredibly well done and I loved just about every second of it, and the scenes between the family members were equal parts goofy and heartwarming... there was just... so little non-boring story?

It felt like I was watching an extremely well done superhero TV cartoon episode meshed with a Simpsons episode without much of the American society clever bite. The original Incredibles was its own thing — it was a novel "what if superheoes retired?" premise where the message was clear and made sense as it developed throughout the movie, even with all of its alleged Randianess. This one had like a couple different hints of message sprinkled in the first half that I think virtually dissappeared.

Also, a certain band of characters in this movie design-wise I loathed. Most of them looked so weird and awful.

It absolutely does not.

This movie can be praised, as it should. You don't need to put down another film with amazing superhero action to do so.
No comparisons allowed? Incredibles 2 raised the bar. Not a single moment of Incredibles 2 action was uncreative, something that can't be said about for even just any scene of Infinity War IMO.

I completely underestimated this movie! I loved the first one and didn't expect much out of this sequel, but I (and everyone with me) came out of the theater pleasantly surprised! It was just simply delightful.

Really loved it. Wish they had used the Elasti-bike, because that was the coolest action scene gimmick I've seen in a while.

Incredibles 2 was incredible too.

I thought this was even better than the first.
Jack Jack stole the movie, and everyone and everything was better.
Well worth the 14 year wait. Movie was hilarious. But we better not have to wait another 14 for another sequel.

except Violet had a bit of a wierd look early in the morning, and Elastigirl sounded like she had a retainer in her mouth the entire time she was talking

I really liked this movie a lot. The direction, the creative action, and the animation are really impressive. This sequel proved itself for me just in how computer animation has improved since the last film because it looks soo good in so many ways. It's also got some good humor and some sweet family moments that veer into cliche territory but luckily give them some fresh twists. It's just a fun straight forward adventure.

That being said, there are a lot of disappointments that I just can't shake even as the film won me over in so many ways throughout the film. For one, it doesn't live up to the first in villains, in themes, in character development (Dash is oddly not doing much as a character or even as a set of powers like they forgot to add him into the film until the last draft and even Frozone is in the film less that in the first), and it had something interesting to say and an interesting story to tell. This felt like it could be saying something or diving a little deeper into these characters but then it just fizzles out.

That's not to say this film is bad. It reminds me of Solo in just being pretty much what you'd expect but better executed and more fun than you might expect, but this goes a step further to give just a bit more fleshing out of the characters and the jokes all hit. In terms of telling a straight forward story (that is way too predictable) but still manages to feel fun and engaging throughout, it's a good sequel and above average in terms of most animated sequels or sequels in general. It stops just short of being great though. The first was great, this was just really good.

Btw did anyone see
The Jonny Quest "Quest" logo on the building in the background? Even before they were watching the cartoon on TV, I noticed the font and had to do a double take an wonder if that was a deliberate reference. Soon after they confirmed that is was.

I watched it last night. I must say, I haven't had so much fun watching a movie in a while. Everyone in the cinema was always laughing, especially when Jack Jack was around. The action scenes were so fun and creative. I really liked some of the new heroes (Void!) and Jack Jack.

I wouldn't say the plot was anything surprising but it's not terrible. It's really entertaining to watch.

so is Jack jack supposed to be Jack of all trades or is it just because he's a baby?

in the end, i'm really happy there was no time skip. we would've missed out on jack jack and violet scenes. I don't know why anyone wanted to see these kids as grown adults

also this is easily the funniest movie of the year

Purchased tickets to take my 5 year old son to this for Father's Day. Never saw the first one but this looks like a fun movie.

I was going to do Imax but then realized Imax doesn't have the reclining seats so I went regular digital. I prefer cozy over huge screen :) I'm old.

It was good the only thing is why couldn't this movie come out right after the first one instead of 14 years later...if anything they need to do a time skip for the third one where the kids are older including jack jack cause he's gonna be OP as fuck and needs to be nerfed

... Wait, did no one make an OT for Incredibles II?

I'm insulted. If no one else will, I'll go whip one up later.

For shame
