Well, my replacement Pixel Buds started to shit the bed (again). Similar to the issue I ran into initially with my first pair. They started pairing with my phone from within the charging case (where they are supposed to be deactivated while charging) and interrupting my phone calls. I didn't get the other issue I had with my original pair where they ALSO stopped recharging (this was the issue my co-worker also had).

So I just broke down, drove to Best Buy, and bought Airpods.

Sound quality is a fuller compared to the Pixel Buds but they're much better out blocking out noisy backgrounds so the end result is they sound better overall (still doesn't sound great). Syncing wasn't an issue but I did notice that I no longer get the battery level preview on the bluetooth quick setting button like I used to on the Pixel Buds, Jaybird Run, WH-1000XM2, and even the Megaboom portable speakers.

It's not perfect but it's definitely a step up from the Pixel Buds.

You aren't gonna get real crazy base from drivers that are tiny enough for truly wireless earbuds.
I know. The pixel buds and airpods are about what I would expect. It's the Jaybirds that were sorely lacking in that regard. I'm talking zero bass presence.

Using them a bit more the gains in the airpods over the pixel buds seem to be entirely due to them having better any passive noise isolation.

The Gear app that you download for the Icon X's do come with an equalizer, but I'm sure they can only do so much when it comes to boosting the bass.

My only personal complaints with them are that the charging case holds less charge than competing headphones (I've never totally ran out, but if the case runs out of juice the earbuds don't go into sleep mode when you put them away), and when using the left earbud on it's own, it "chirps" and pauses what I'm listening too, like it's temporarily disconnecting or something. My current theory is that in direct sunlight it might be making the earbud is out of my ear and pauses it (when I'm doing yardwork in the sun the problem seems at its worst), but the right one seems better, so maybe it's just the connection on the left one is slightly weaker than the right. DOn't seem to have the problem with both of them in at the same time either.

I'd love it if Bose would do a revision of the SoundSport Free, but it would basically require a TOTAL overhaul to make me want to switch from the Icon X's. They'd have to improve the bluetooth connectivity, fix the Windows connection issues, fix the audio/video delay problems, make them a bit smaller (they stick out pretty far currently), have control buttons on BOTH earbuds (I like being able to choose which ear I put one in, not being forced to only use it in the right ear), and I wouldn't say no if they added noise cancellation or at least isolation to them. They're the comfiest earphones I've ever used and you can get them at Nordstrom (which means a lifetime no-questions return policy), they just need a lot of improvements before they're perfect.

Problem I have with my Icon x is that the connection to the case is always finicky. I do get a bit of oily/ ear wax, but feel like this is more of a design flaw... Should keep the charge points away from touching the skin.

Even thought the Bose Soundsport Free case was HUGE compared to most wireless earbuds, I did love their connection method.
It had these strong batteries that just snapped the earbuds in place when you gently drop them into place. I think the inner ear part of them also was facing up so it didn't spread sweat/oil/wax over the inside of the case either. Also a plus of the soundsport's huge size was that I think the connector parts were far away from your skin.

Someone once thought my Soundport Free's were huge ear gauges from a small distance, haha. Now that I live in San Diego I don't have to worry about earmuffs ever again, so I actually wouldn't mind going back to the larger size if they do release an improved version someday.

If y'all had to choose between the Pixel 2 XL, the Note 8 or the S9+ while considering battery and camera performance, which would you go with? Asking because my Note 4 may finally be it's way out. The touch screen is becoming completely unresponsive for long periods lately and I think that's a sign of its impending death. I was planning on upgrading this year anyway, but I was hoping to wait it out until the Note 9 hits. Looks like that won't be an option :/

So my immediate choices (I'm on Verizon) are the Note 8, S9+, or the Pixel 2 XL.

Assuming it's a Snapdragon version, the S9+.

That's definitely the one I'm leaning towards. Especially since I just remembered that the Pixel doesn't have a headphone jack, which automatically disqualifies it for me. So it looks like it'll be either the S9+ or the Note 8.

S9+. You can find a good condition one for like $600 on swappa.

Loving the Android One experience, just got the June security patch, this is what the update experience should be like.

Also, your answer as to why second hand One Plus phones are worth more than Samsung phones btw.

Well looks like we're not far off from seeing real reviews of the XZ2 Premium. We also finally got some low light comparisons between it, the P20 Pro and the S9+ at the following link:

https://www.mobile01.com/newsdetail...ube&utm_campaign=videoseo&utm_content=5487900

The XZ2 Premium excelled at the most was video, here're the links if you wanna check out the same scene for each phone:

P20 Pro:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSXVyNiYmk0

S9+:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INTlfdCTN7I

XZ2 Premium:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfjJ41OiXV0

In low light video the XZ2P destroys them both.

For low light photos the XZ2P also seems to be ahead. The P20 Pro and S9+ go for the smoother photo when zooming in causing a loss of detail and the XZ2P goes for the noisier photo while retaining more detail. It's also worth noting that for the photos the P20 Pro used a far higher shutter time than the others, using 5 seconds for the shot of the lady sitting down and 6 seconds for the city picture. I will say that the P20 Pro did a much better job than the XZ2P on the city shot, producing a much more pleasing image with more detail and far less noise. Other than that though, it looks like the XZ2 Premium is gonna be sitting either at or near the top of the smartphone rankings for low light performance.

i mean yeah it's foldable but it's not exactly what people mean when they say a foldable phone.
Also that design is old, reminiscent of the GS6/Note5 so i guess it's that old at least.

Samsung foldable phone prototype

Reminds me of the old Sony Tablet P

Can't wait to see some true foldable displays in phones. We know Samsung are working on 'em, and so are Sony along with LG Display

Woah. New oppo find got some curvy sliding camera thing and seemingly no front bezels (maybe similar tech from vivo apex?)
What in the flying fuck? So to eliminate the front facing camera issue, we just hide ALL the cameras. And since the slider is so big, I hope Oppo has decided to slap a giant speaker for media consumption alongaide the front facing camera.
So Samsung randomly brought back their dope good lock app suite.

Took a few quick videos of the new app switcher. Palm pre vibes

A bunch of other apps too.

Apk is available. A bit buggy but there are guides on reddit

https://www.reddit.com/r/android/comments/8r9m4i

App switching without leaving the app in a clunky transition animation? Bravo samsung, whatever the hell Touchwiz is called now looks pretty amazing. I'm impressed.

Samsung foldable phone prototype
That's just a lazy ass photoshop of the ZTE Axon M, or ZTE has some splaining to do.

We all are. I think pre-orders in certain countries start at the beginning of July. Anyways, it's not even slated for a global launch, so I think Sony knows they screwed the pooch with the XZ2P release. If it had come out alongside the XZ2 and XZ2c then it would have formed a great lineup. Whatever technical issue caused the delay messed everything up because the XZ2's successor will be out shortly after people start getting their XZ2P's. I think we can only hope that a true global Premium/Pro model is still coming.

I tend to get the international model due to the fingerprint scanner works right off the bat.
I really liked my xz premium that why I'm giving the xz2 premium a chance....but the z5 premium was one of the worst phone I've owned, so hopefully the xz2 is not a dud.

I've got the XZ Premium as well and love it. Just curious, what're your reasons for wanting to upgrade so relatively soon?

Personally I'm hoping that by next year we'll see a Premium with a folding display, and that's when I'll upgrade. I figure between folding displays, 5G and possibly OLED displays that next year will be a sweet spot to upgrade over what the XZP offers.

Im always changing phones. I currently have a razor phone, and I haven't found a phone unique enough to beat out the 120hz screen feature.
I really enjoyed the xz premium cause of its beastly performance and 4k screen.

So next phone will be the xz2 premium or the Red phone.
I refuse to get any phone with a notch.

Cool, let us know how you like it if you wind up picking it up. If you do, please try to post some camera samples against any other high end phones you might have.

Speaking of, here's some camera samples from the XZ2 Premium:

https://m.weibo.cn/u/1212848862?uid=1212848862&luicode=10000011&lfid=231522type=1&q=#智慧新双摄#&t=10

Too bad they're not full size pics, but you can click on 'em to see they're full of detail. The exposure on all of them seems very good as well. The video at the top shows off the continuous shooting mode which is nice, but the XZP can do it too
