K, I'm past the first boss now, I can at least say that. I used like 18 healing potions, but I got him. I'm sure there were tricks and openings that I didn't see, ways to get visceral attacks. I just dodged a lot and hit him when I could.

I think I'm beginning to get how this game works. Pick a path, and see how far you can get. Repeat with a different path. See what new shortcuts you can open up so that you don't have to go through that path again. And of course, get good... which I have yet to do.

Make sure you are upgrading your weapon. There are a few blood shards as loot dotted around Central Yarnham and the Wolfmen type enemies in and above the sewers also drop them as loot. It will definately help to have a +2 or even +3 weapon for the next boss - assuming your first boss was Cleric Beast.

Spend your left over blood echoes, or even all of them, from early boss wins on blood vials so you are not left short when you want to try the next boss but are out of vials and have to farm them. It happens to most of us in the early part of the game, so, say every other boss buy a bunch of vials instead of leveling up will really help build a stock up.

Yeah, Cleric Beast. My axe is only upgraded once so far, but I'll be sure to do it again when I reach 5 shards as soon as I find them.

Watching someone good take down the cleric beast, I was supposed to hit him with the oil and then the molotov cocktail to do some real damage. I'm kinda doing a reverse walkthrough with this game, I'm getting past a certain point, then watching a walkthrough to see how I was SUPPOSED to handle things.

I sometimes do the "reverse walkthrough" as well, though keep in mind this game offers a ton of versatility in how you approach it. So while the oil+molotov thing helps, it's not necessarily how one is "supposed" to approach things.

Some bosses for instance are quite succesptible to parries but can be beat without a single party.

Guys, I need some help with this. I thought my original ds4 that came with the pro messed up and bought a new controller, bloodborne and dark souls remastered both do the following:

I'm just holding up on the controller and the character sometimes does a twitch movement or pretty much decides to go at an angle. It's super weird and it happens both in wireless mode and wired. Happens with a new and old controller. Annoying as fuck.

By default, the DS4 will only transmit data wirelessly to the console, even when plugged in via USB. Plugging the controller via USB will only charge it. You'll have to dig into the settings to set it to transmit data via USB. Your controller has to be connected via USB for the option to show up in the settings.

If you determined that the controller works fine when wired, then it's most likely a case of wireless interference with other devices like tmdorsey mentioned.

It could be your router, or other Bluetooth devices in the same room.

K, I'm in the Cathedral now. Things have clearly gotten harder, even crows need two hits now. I am officially addicted though, I don't know how I can continue giving the time this game requires, but damned if I don't love it.

Getting my ass kicked by the Vicar Amelia boss. I can usually stop the constant healing, but she still gets more health back than I take away. I read a guide that said to use Numbing Mist and Bone Marrow Ash, and I've never had anybody drop those before. So maybe I should explore some more? There's probably a direction I haven't explored yet.

Yeah my axe has upgrade 3 times (need double shards to upgrade it now), and I have two gems on it.. Still kicks my ass, but I know it's mostly just my inability to dodge right. I tried switching to the saw spear (because it apparently does a bit more damage on beasts), but I didn't like it. Maybe I'll buy the threaded cane.

Vicar Amelia is pretty tough. She wiped the floor with me several times. You can try exploring to the left of the Grand Cathedral, but thebest way of dealing with her (as with any boss) is just to practice. Bone Marrow Ash is a buff for firearms so it wouldn't be more use to you right now. Numbing Mist will keep her from healing; you can buy them from the Insight Bath Messangers in the Hunter's Dream. It helps in the fight but it's not necessary. Try dodging her attacks towards her and to your right, and then getting a couple of swipes in. You can stagger her by hitting her arms enough times, and when she staggers, you can hit her in the head with an R1 to do a viceral attack for big damage.

I'd advise against switching weapons too much. You want a main weapon which you'll keep upgrading, since upgrade materials are kind of scarce.

I would explore all other options before fscing Amelia, there are paths either side of her boss room that I'd tackle first. Will help get that weapon upgraded too.

Numbing Mist, there is some to find as loot on the way to her boss room, explore more for that but if you're doing decent damage you shouldn't need it as she can be killed before she even starts healing. She is weak to fire, so using fire paper on your weapon is a must for a quick kill. You should be able to buy it from the shop by now and Alfred gives you some if you spoke to him earlier before getting to Old Yarnham. Concentrate on Amelia's limbs, one at a time to stagger her when you can do a visceral attack (go to her face close up and press R1 whilst she is immobile) this does a nice chunk of damage. Then concentrate on another limb to stagger again.

I thought I had to. Whoops!

Just took out the Bloodstarved Beast. Looks like I was jumping the gun a bit with facing Vicar Amelia (though I'm sure I could've gotten her if I kept at it). Still can't buy fire paper, but I have yet to explore all of Old Yharnam.

Just explore man. Amelia can wait. Exploring is the best part about these games.

Negative of doing "reverse walkthroughs". Killing the guy with the gatling gun, then finding out you could've just talked to him.

Worst part is that he fell off the building so I didn't even get whatever he drops.

You can go back to him after refreshing area and pick up what he dropped, I think. Should be near gatling gun.

Thanks, you were right. It was a badge too, so I'm glad I got it.

I somehow ended up in the Unseen Village. Quite a surprise. I'm getting my ass kicked, but I'm getting a ton of double blood crystals there so I'm upgrading my weapon like mad.

Heheh did you find the hunters yet? Don't forget to find the key for Upper Cathedral Ward while you're there. Upper Cathedral is amazing.

I had just ran into two hunters right of the Vidal Amelia fight, so when I was warned that more were coming in the Unseen Village (specifically Hypogean Gaol), I just turned around and went a different way.

I also got an achievement for runes, and I still can't equip them. That's pretty hilarious.

So I spent a good two hours or so today googling controller glitches / weird stutter movements and so on and the "fix" was hilarious and it actually worked. Someone
suggested to spin the left analog while blowing on it super hard to remove some dust.. and it worked. Both freaking controllers work perfectly now, crazy shit. I'm so happy lol

Vicar Amelia down, that Witch down, the lightning beast, down. I think I love this game.

Edit - I just found the Nightmare Frontier and I now disagree with my previous statement.

I love Nightmare frontier. In fact I wished I hadn't put it off for so long since by the time I did it I was already pretty overleveled and killed the boss on my first try. The real danger came from invasions but it's also pretty easy to find the Bell Maiden, unlike that other area.

Now that I think of it, even though I got invaded a fair bit I never did any invasions of my own.

I was just venting about the part where there are two Yeti's hurling rocks, and there's no way to attack one of them without the other one raining 1-hit kills from the sky (as far as I can tell). There's also those brain enemies that cause Frenzy. I don't know what Frenzy is, but goddamn does it kill me fast.

I did have someone invade me, but he just stood there and watched me take down those two hunters. THEN he killed me. Nice of him to wait.

I'm getting really frustrated. I'm in Nightmare of Mensis. Level 73. Insight 8. Vitality is 30 and endurance is 26. I get killed in like 2 1/2 hits.

I can get summoned into other people's games but no one gets summoned into mine. I can't make any progress from this point.

Is there any reason why I can't summon people? It sucks having to do most of this Solo.

I'm guessing the playerbase is just not very active at the moment.

Which part in Mensis are you struggling with, in particular?

Everything. I can get to the spiders before being overwhelmed.
Hmm.
There are places where the Eye of Not-Sauron can't get you. Use that as cover while you take down the silverbeasts (note, killing them with fire, or with a visceral attack, will not make the maggots spawn, that's very useful). Once you're past that part, it's just the annoying rock-throwing apes, you can take them out one by one, though be careful to avoid the thrown boulders, these fuckers throw 'em pretty far.

Alternatively, you can basically dash almost the entire way through and make it inside the castle without killing any enemies, just watch your frenzy meter and heal up with blood vials and/or sedatives if needed. IIRC, once inside the castle the white apes won't follow you inside, but if they do, you can always take your time to take them out while inside without going too far inside and aggro the spiders. Once inside you can also use your gun pr pebbles to take aggro each spider basically one by one. It's a bit slow but if you are struggling that could help?

Thanks. I tried this plus I was finally able to get SOMEONE to join. They didn't last long but once I got to the spiders I just ran past them and the hunter to unlock the short cut.

Then I joined someone's game. Took one hit from Micolash and died. I don't get it. How can I be that weak.

In CoOp your HP is reduced and stats are scaled down etc.

How difficult are the bosses in this game compared to the last Valkyrie in God of War (normal difficulty)?

Because I was incapable of defeating the last Valkyrie on normal, could only do it on easy.

I haven't played God of War, but I'd say that the non-optional bosses in the main game are moderately difficult. It depends on how much experience you have with this type of game. Have you played Dark Souls?

There's several optional bosses as well, which range from very easy to pretty tough.

The DLC bosses are considerably more difficult than the main game bosses and there are certain bosses in the optional chalice dungeons that...well. Let's just say they took me over 70 tries to beat.

But I'd say the main game is very manageable once you get over the learning curve.

So I just started playing Bloodborne. Picked the axe and the shitty pistol.

Made it to the bridge with two large wolves where I died.

So now I'm back at the first lamp. What is the best tactic now? Should I kill every single enemy up until the bridge again or just run past them? Anything else I should do?

I'm actually surprised at the difficulty so far, thought it was gonna be a lot more difficult considering how people have been talking about the game over the years. The only really "difficult" aspect is lack of save points, but other than that its pretty moderate.

Your main goal right now should be exploring levels to find items, shortcuts and eventually kill bosses. There's only one lamp in central Yharnam but there are several shortcuts you can open to make traversal easier when you die. You don't have to kill enemies but sometimes it's easier to explore when you don't have dudes breathing down your neck.

As for the blood vials, as you know you can only carry 20, but any surplus will automatically be stashed in your storage in the hunters dream and it will autorefill your 20 everytime you die, so try to use your spare. Blood Echoes to buy blood vials so you are never in need to farm for them. They gradually get more expensive so it's better to stock up early on.

There's a closed gate next to that save point. Think about what direction to go to get to the other side of it to open it, that way you can skip the whole bonfire part next time. Opening up shortcuts are just as important as finding save points, that's something that I learned early when I first started.

Well, I'm assuming you haven't encountered any boss yet which means you've gained no Insight which means you can't level up. Go back to that bridge, run past the wolves, go all the way to the end of the bridge. Boss battle, die as you feebly attempt to kill it. You should now have 1 Insight, the eye icon on the top right of the screen. Now, you can level up your character with Blood Echoes. Note, you just needed to obtain 1 Insight to unlock the ability to level up. You don't actually need any Insight afterwards to keep leveling up.
