The last fight of this episode is every bit of fun as I hoped it'd be.

Stuff like this is why I hope they hold off on both teams befriending each other for a long while.

This kind of episode alone makes the Vs theme worth it. Oh, and more about GoodStriker and the Lupin Collection. I really like they are trying to develop the villains a small bit too.

What they did with the mech combination with the fight inside was pretty cool too!

Build 39

Pretty cool of Inukai and Takaiwa to change their mannerisms for the transformation and fight scene. Of course it's just for this episode since...
Sento's back! And the final form is here. Can't wait to see how fucking broken it is. That might be the most elaborate transformation sequence ever.
Utsumi has clearly gone off the deep end. I expect to see him die for real soon.

Lupin vs Pat 18

Nice to get some backstory to Good Striker. Though seeing him a swing was a bit much
That fight in the cockpit though, that was glorious. Though I can see how they'll handle Megazord combinations when they inevitably team up.

Build 39 was pretty good!

I really like insane Utsumi, but i dont expect him to last much longer, sadly. :(

Sento's return was really well done i feel, though i dont know if he merged with Katsuragi or if they are still separate personalities. I guess we will learn more on the next episode.

When i saw the leaked scans for Genius form i wasnt really feeling it at first, but seeing it in the show changed everything, the suit looks really cool, and i love how over the top the transformation sequence is. lol

Excited to see what is happening on next weeks episode, the experiment part has me really intrigued.

So, we have a Zi-O silhouette. Nothing strange like Ex-Aid. Actually, it doesn't have anything too weird at all, apparently - even build had that crank.

I dunno from where this scan is, but since it's just an ad, I'll quote it.

EDIT: Brazil told me posting the scan is ok, since it's an ad.

Just wait. It'll be some plain form like early Heisei until it becomes a full blown over-designed monstrosity by the end of the series.

I would love if the main form was late Showa/early Heisei plain. (Black, RX, J, ZO, Kuuga, Agito).

Would like better if the final form was also simple or at least not messy, but that's asking for too much.

I wouldn't mind a more subdued design necessarily but most of the Neo-Heisei base forms (at least as far as making Riders go) have worked for me. Think Wizard was the one exception but that was mostly due to his helmet. (Counting Ex-Aid's base as level 2 here).

As far as final forms go the last great one was Kiwami Arms so yeah

Are we sure that's the actual new rider's silhouette and not just somethimg generic as a placeholder?

Zi-O's silhouette isn't loud at all and im very surprised about that given that the designs got so more and more fancy and loud with each new Rider. Very curious to see how it'll turn out when the full reveal comes out.

I don't know if the base forms have been getting louder as a rule. RabbitTank is certainly more subdued than Ex-Aid level 2 and Gaim and Drive are pretty equivalent.

Wonder what the transformation device gimmick is gonna be this time. Also wonder if that basic silhouette is something like Den-O's Plat Form that the rumoured Rider blends would slot on to

I was bored so I was thinking about if Arc-Sys developed a "serious" Kamen Rider fighter in the vein of FighterZ, probably sticking with the Heisei Riders at first---

One thing I was thinking is it seems the form change gimmicks most Riders use would be a bit too much to balance it seems for a competitive fighter, and be hard on the animators, yet simply using each Rider's Base form might get a bit redundant since there's a lot of overlap. So, it got me thinking---what if each Rider was basically set to one form, and then we got some more diversity? It might be a bit odd to say, headline Drive in Type Technic, but I think it'd be neat overall---and like the intro animation could show them transforming from their default. With that in mind, here's what I thought of.

Kuuga - Mighty Form. The "Ryu" of the game, a no-thrills fighter who'd be easy for beginners.
Agito - Trinity Form. Basically dual-wields the Storm Halberd and Flame Saber, a fairly simple character but with great reach.
Ryuki - Well, there's not much to work with---so just the base form, and he'd incorporate Dragoredder into his attacks, like summoning fireballs to rain from the sky and such? Not really sure how you'd work in his cards.
Faiz - In his default form as well, and I imagine him as a "street brawler" with a lot of swagger-style moves. I want one Rider who prominently uses their bike, and he seems like a good choice, working in Auto-Vajin as well.
Blade - Jack Form. Basically he'd be capable of limited flight alongside his natural sword skills, and he'd work in the Thunder Deer card allowing him to utilize various electrical attacks since that's a rarer element among the Riders.
Hibiki - Also the base Form. Basically a combo-fiend with his drumsticks. Maybe work in the Disc Animals somehow as well?
Kabuto - Masked Form. Slow moving but purposeful character with powerful attacks with super armor, would have a meter allowing him to access Rider Form for certain moves, and probably some cool counters. A "smart" fighter, basically.
Den-O - Liner Form. Would basically be an assist-based character like Captain Ginyu, summoning the Imagin to aid him. Really weak on his own, thus relying on the Imagin to protect him.
Kiva - Garuru Form. A very "feral" fighter with lots of combos, both on the ground and in the air, I added Garuru Form for some cool sword techniques in addition to his fist-based attacks.
Decade - In his default form, I feel like him transforming into other Riders would be a bit much---maybe for a cinematic Ultimate Move, but I'd probably use the original cards he showed off like the invisibility and multiplier. A "trickster" character perhaps overall?
Double - Cyclone Joker, naturally. Wind-based, and could split in two for certain attacks for some nice mix-up options.Basically a more advanced version of Kuuga as the fist fighter.
OOO - Tatoba. I was thinking of a gimmick where certain combo strings result in a medal being added to a gauge---if you line up three of the same type of medals, you get a stat boost. Like RaToraTa increases speed, SaGoZou gives super armor, etc. But otherwise he's kind of like Kiva, a quick "savage" fighter but more grounded.
Fourze - Magnet States. A "tank" character with limited mobility, but lots of firepower backing him up.
Wizard - Ground Style. I think this would be cool to make him a defensive character able to summon barriers and such.
Gaim - Jimba Lemon. Just because an archer is always cool to see in a fighting game.
Drive - Type Technic. A very "mechanical" character with a lot of traps and such to utilize like that attack that increases gravity, auto-aiming, etc.
Ghost - Billy the Kid. The "gunner" with a lot of quick-fire attacks, and of course would have some ghost-based abilities like phasing in and out, teleporting, etc.
Ex-Aid - Maximum Mighty X. Basically the large grappler character.
Build - NinComi, because we need a ninja and that's pretty cool.

When did this franchise blow up? Seems like there is always a Garo project in the pipe. I am so behind
The original Garo series aired in 2004 and only got an additional mini series in 2006. In 2010 they released a movie sequel and started following it up with a bunch of other sequels and spinoffs(which also got sequels) at a really fast pace.

Kamen Rider Build 40
  • Genius Form's suit is going to take a while for me to get used to, because all those colourful bottle arrangements turn what is otherwise a nice and sleek, clean suit into something gaudy yet simultaneously pleasing as it reminds me of a paint palette.
  • Okay, so this episode establishes some very key new plot points as it prepares to build up towards the finale. The Lost Bottles (the "Devil Bottles") are man-made and invented by Katsuragi's father, who is apparently still very much alive. Evolt, who now desires to watch humanity destroy their own planet while he spectates, seeks to create powerful, subservient minions by utilising these Lost Bottles with the power of the existing Full Bottles and Pandora's Box (and with a good dose of Nebula Gas for extra Hazard Level boosting) to create Lost Smashes, the most powerful incarnation of Smashes.
  • Given how transparent Evolt is with the plan when talking to Utsumi...okay, Utsumi, why are you still working for him? You're really not going to gain anything out of this, as Evolt still seeks to tear the planet apart, albeit just using a somewhat less efficient method. I understand Utsumi's now no longer mentally sound, but even madmen will turn tail and flee after staring at Armageddon in the eye as it winks and sneers at you for this long.
  • Aww, Sento has a little friend in his head now. Any future visits to a psychologist will be interesting.
  • Gentoku....just...what even. What's going on. Did Mad Rogue defeat you that thoroughly? You know what? I'm not even mad. On the contrary, I'm delighted. I'll happily take this. I never knew I wanted to see Gentoku strut on a catwalk like that in one instance, dressed like the 1970s have never left, only to change later on into a fabulous pink getup. It tonally makes the episode feel utterly bizarre and inconsistent, like they only did this to give him and the girls something to do, but I was thoroughly entertained by his sudden, out of character antics.
  • Why do I get the feeling that Grease isn't going to keep surviving these near-death experiences? Toei practically gave him giant death flags this week.
  • By the way, if the goal was presumably to originally turn the Riders into Lost Smash, not taking Grease's belt away from him is somewhat counterproductive. Forcibly drugging a captive and allowing them to escape in a stronger physical state with their weapon still available is generally not advised if you're also thinking of starting and operating a clandestine villain organisation.
  • Oh hey, that woman from way back in the third and fourth episode of this show is relevant to the story again, as is perhaps the former Hokuto Prime Minister. I sort of remember them! Good on the show for occasionally bringing back their earlier tertiary characters.
  • How about that movie preview? I haven't actually read anything about it, so I don't know if this is supposed to be canon or not. I just hope it doesn't canonically occur after the show like with Ex-Aid, because I would already know that every Rider makes it out of the show alive and Souichi is still around, whether as himself or as Evolt...

The fights in Build 39 are pretty good! Katsuragi henshin also rocks. A shame Genius looks like garbage, but I do like the idea of each side getting a separate finisher in the form of a rider punch and a rider kick. Direction in this episode is great again.

In 40, they got me twice: thought it was Katsuragi's mom being experimented and totally thought (and got mad) that Grease was going to die. Seriously happy I was wrong on the latter. It's weird Vernage isn't a constant presence in the show at this point while they are bringing older elements (the smuggler lady and the Lost Bottles) back to tie into the ending. Oh and Genius being able to recover lost smashes smells kinda asspull-y. That and the Hokuto trip full of easy and somewhat non explainable plot devices brought this episode down compared to the previous one.
So, it was Katsuragi's father that made the second Evolt Driver huh? Wonder what that means both timeline wise and for Evolt's character. Maybe the scientist tampered with Evolt tech and he temporarily needs the help to use it?

Between 39 and 40, with both Utsumi and Gentoku, I hope antagonists getting hammy as fuck is a thing moving forward. It worked with Kuroto, it works with those two. It worked since day 1 with Cakeboss in OOO. Just do it.

Also, what the hell at the movie trailer. It looks like it's taking itself seriously without being cheesy? How is that even possible for Kamen Rider?

I actually think it makes him feel, more... realistic? Not every plan survives reality and sometimes, things shift when you get new data.

"You guys will probably fuck this up on your own, so I'm just going to give you a nudge" feels like a good evolution.

Build 40

Good use of previous (small) plot points, like the bottles and the boat lady. While Evolt's plot is kinda nonsensical, for a planet destroying lifeform, at least it's better than fighting him again and again forever.

Oh, and that's a way of making a Rider stronger without adding a new form, I guess. For a bit, I thought he would be a goner. I bet Utsumi will get the same treatment soon.

And casual Gentoku was... well, something.

Build - 40

I liked this ep but even if I didn't, it was worth it for Gentoku alone easily.

Also Kazumin stays awesome despite no new form :D

Also love them bringing back past people even this late in the show.

Lupat - 19

No Lupinrangers suits this week.

Nice focus on Sakuya and I''m really liking Hilltop in general now. It was nice to see him show up to give Sakuya his VS changer as well.

Next week looks fun. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out in future eps :D

"I ain't got time to die, even If i do die Sento will fix it"

I like the trope of the Rider with outdated gear, but keeps up through pure hot bloodedness

Patrangers 19

Hey, last week's preview was complete bait, not surprising. Still, great use of the monster's power.

And well, trying to make the police look better is a reason to arrest the Lupinrangers, I guess. Not a strong one, but eh.

Ohhh, I'm curious about the next episode. I wonder how he'll... work?

Build seems to be both weirdly rushed and awkwardly stretched in terms of pacing right now. Black Hazard and the mid-series upgrade both got moments to shine and felt properly set up but Genius doesn't feel appropriately badass or special yet, sandwiched between Mad Rogue and Kazumin bejng the best. The idea of
Katsuragi's dad
suddenly being important isn't sitting well with me either.

Gentoku having such STRONG STYLE was fantastic, though.

I just realised this a few days ago. There are no Kuyranger figuarts, are they? I remember at the begining thinking how Champ and Balance would look great as toys. I can't seem to find any reference online.

Build 40

Holy crap Genius Form!
I knew the Hokuto PM would get a monster form. Just didn't expect it to be many episodes after she stopped being relevant.
Kazumi is hardcore as hell. No time to die!
Gentoku though... just wow. I know his actor can speak English so I kind of want to see him do some comedy shows on American TV.

Lupin vs Pat 19

"Life is like riding bicycle to keep your balance"
I really don't like the deputy director. Probably to show that there's corruption in police higher-ups, since he cares more for reputation than justice.
Next week though, finally the six- er seventh (fourth?) Ranger. Will be interesting to see how he plays both sides.

Kamen Rider Build - 40

After seeing Genius form in action I'm liking it more. Still don't love it tho.

Gentoku just became a strong contender for best Build boy. Maximum style.

Still, Kazumin remains the best. Even when the show gives him low-tier upgrades he somehow finds a way to not job at all. Relevant till the end, baby.

Also, to make Katsuragi's dad relevant at the 40 episode mark is quite something. Hopefully it leads to something good.
