I love how I'm still running around with my shield up in New Londo, lol. What can I say, I'm a shield guy.

Forgot how tough Manus was. Getting clobbered. No help from Sif lol.

When I first played DS1 I thought he was fucking impossible, I ended up having to summon to beat him. But now, I realize how incredibly easy he is. He only has a few attacks and they are easily dodged and readable. And, the only thing you have to watch out for in his second phase are his sorceries, but as long as you have the Silver Pendant then that shit shouldn't pose any threat. The general rule of thumb when fighting Manus is not to get too close. You want to fight him at a mid-range distance where you can easily roll away before he starts to do his combo, but also close enough that when he does his reach attacks you have time to hit him before he pulls his arm away. You also typically only want to him once, at most twice, before backing off.

I tried learning Manus more on my last run and I felt pretty confident at dodging most things. His magic is all dodgable easily, although the straight forward blast tickled me a few times - I'd like to get more consistent at seeing that coming so I could get out of the way completely every time.

The only thing I still have problems reading is the main single hand slam, he raises his hand for a long time and the temptation is to roll to early - I always eat a facefull of fist, I started blocking and rolling late, but I would roll too late and block it. I think if I could get these two things down consistently, I'd be up for another SL1 run inc. DLC this time.

1. Why are you dodging his magic instead of using the pendant?

2. Yeah, that slam can be a bit tricky due to the long hold. But, it's also your best opportunity to get a hit in since he leaves it down for a while. Just get that timing right.

Because you're using the Threated Cane :/
But he's using the Threaded Cane, the best weapon in the game. :D
Haha... yeah, I got the plat with the axe, which with the extended charged R2, turned a lot of areas and encounters into easy mode. The cleaver has that straight/curved sword flavor, which I like too, but figured I'd go with something more unorthodox. Bloodborne definitely has more of that DkS3 feel, where even large enemies seem to have zero wind-up with certain moves, making reaction time almost impossible (like Gwyn's first swing in his fast combo). I'm curious to see how I level my character up after gaining so much knowledge through the rest of the series (BB was my first).

I dodge the magic as well. Never attempted the fight with the pendant. Always getting tripped up with the arms as I keep fighting him really close. Will try again at mid range.

1. Never bothered with the Pendant, just one more item to manage and dodging is more fun.

2. Yeah. I had time to get in 2/3 hits with the Painting Guardian Sword when I dodged successfully. Did decent damage too.

I completely forgot about the pendant and only got it after I defeated Manus. You don't really need it anyway. That attack where it rains dark magic from the sky can actually be completely dodged by strafing; no rolls required. I haven't been able to dodge the only other dark attack he used against me, which spawns the blobs in a circle around you and has them quickly travel inwards toward you. But he only used it two times in a dozen attempts and I could tank them with full health.

You better aim for the Design works books for lore bits, if you want a proper lore telling go for the podcasts or YT videos (pls avoid Vaaty)

After getting the 100%, I fired up Bloodborne and started a run w/ the threaded cane, since I got so attached to my BSS in DkS:R.

Effing LOL, man.

I am getting my ass handed to me. Why am I struggling so hard just getting to Cleric Beast?! I'm sure it'll all come back to me, but that adjustment period is brutal. Triangle to heal, L1 to switch weapon mode, can't remap jump. Dang!

Cane is more about crowd control and looking for Vis via Gun mechanic , a well skill build can Vis one shot all the mobs you encounter and use the cane R1 often.

In case of the cleric best you have to hug the boss and go R1 on his legs, you will hit all his limbs with each hit and recover your damage at the same time

Back in the day I beat Manus on my first go, though I did cheese it. Havel armour, crystal halberd fully upgraded, and a great shield.

Only thing I had to watch out was magic, but I was so tanky and with the ring that increases poise, he couldn't stagger me much.

After hundreds of hours playing this game... I discovered something new about Centipede Demon. Turns out, you can cut off his Arm! Also... his arm will start to squirm around and attack you like a sentient insect. Not only that, killing the squirming arm drops the Lava Walking ring! So, you can technically obtain the Lava Walking ring without killing Centipede Demon by cutting off his arm, killing it, then dieing or warping out. Not sure if this creates any shortcuts or alternate paths, but it's pretty interesting. It's almost like this method was created for something, but it was removed due to development constraints for Lost Izalith.

I found a summon sign at bed of chaos. NEVER have I seen that before lol. So of course I had to summon the dude.

I have a method already for the fight. Do the left hand, quit out. Do the right, quit. Do the center. I think I have died to him once.

But having a co op buddy kinda made that way more difficult. No more quitting out. I almost died thrice getting back to middle after doing the left arm lol.

DLC was so good...now I don't want to do Four Kings and Bed of Chaos...I think that's it for me.

47 hours, what a ride.
Holds up well minus a few areas....but I do prefer 2&3 just for the basic QOL improvements...and Bloodborne well that's a different beast so I don't compare to DS1,2,3

Might hop back one day to finish off the last two (and final) bosses and maybe NG+

I'm almost done with all the weapon upgrade trophies. I'm just missing the +10 fire weapon and +5 chaos (I'm upgrading the Zweihänder because of course). I even have the two slabs I need but I'm still missing a ton of red chunks. They seem much more difficult to farm than the other varieties which didn't take long at all.

Forgot this. I started the chaos covenant and gave 20 humanity so I should have access to the shortcut. Can I switch covenants now or do I have to open the short cut now before I switch?

You can farm very rare red chunks from chaos bugs (near the shortcut) they're extremely rare drops even at 410 discovery, but they're right next to a bonfire and they spawn 8 of them at a time.

As far as I know:
- you need to give 30 humanity, not 20
- you need to actually open that door first

After that you can switch covenant. Switching covenant before getting your reward is a bad idea as it will reset the progress, so you'd have to hand over more humanity again.

I've gotten a string of opponents in the arena who attack me during an opening bow. Not sure if the remaster has brought in some new folks who don't know the etiquette or if I'm just getting some old school tryhards.

I saved Manus for last then I went and beat the last boss. It wasn't too hard but it was a long fight.

I've started in Dark Souls 2 but I'm using a controller instead of keyboard this time I'm finding it so much harder. Health regeneration works weird, rolling sucks, and I keeping hitting the walls with my attacks...

Only beat the giant boss so far (ez), so lost though.

Framerate/pacing and input lag have been my biggest enemies going back to this compared to DkS:R on PC... I'll get used to it, but the change is rather shocking.

Go to the depths and kill rats over and over again. Each run should only take about two minutes or so. They drop humanity at an ungodly rate. Acquiring 30 should only take twenty minutes or so.

Seconded. I needed 70 for the Fair Lady (already gave her ten prior to that) and I was done in an hour or so.

demosthenes : Just make sure you have the golden serpent ring equiped and have 10 soft humanity for the item drop cap.

My usual route was: bonfire --> downstairs to the group of 5 rats --> down the hall to the rat-in-a-box --> down the ledge to group of three rats --> into the passage way to the room where the Channeler was for another 3 large rats, 1 normal rat to your right and, back to the left, another two rats-in-a-box.

My issue now is that I can't change covenants and I've already given her 21 humanity and I can't get to the shortcut because ceaseless discharge is in my way. I need to level up more and get the anti fire ring.

Is there lore of why rats drop so much humanity? lol

They ate humans, you can see them rotting but alive by eating souls.

The big rat on the Deeps is like that because the Butchers threw the bodies and living being right above the rat.

They grew sapien enough to be the take carers of the giants tombs on Dark Souls 2

I despise using the right stick for camera control and prefer WASD for movement.

But DS2 screwed with the control scheme (double clicking for heavy attack? Over sensitive) so I'm trying controller on my first time through.

I would probably be able to play that way just fine, except that I don't think there's a way to turn off all the automatic camera movement, so it's constantly fighting against where I'm trying to look with the mouse. Being restricted to 8 directions of movement isn't a problem if you have mouselook for fine adjustments on that.

Is Ceaseless Discharge still in his original position? It took me a few tries, but I was able to kill it fairly easily in the end by positioning myself between him and the wall and rolling through his arm smashes. Timing can be tricky, but much like the Hydra in Darkroot Basin he leaves himself open after each smash, meaning you should be able to do solid damage between each one.

Yup. DS3 doesn't have Humanity as an item anymore, so in that game they often drop "(Large) Soul of an x" items.

Bed of Chaos...I want to throw my controller across the Pacific Ocean right now. This stupid tree keeps bitch slapping me into the abyss when I go toward the center on his final form. HNNNNNGGGG!!!!

Edit: never mind got lucky on last run and finally did it after at least 15 tries...praise the sun!

I can't speak to the books but anyone wanting to absorb more Souls lore talk should definitely check out the podcast Bonfireside Chat. Two relatively funny guys and a guest go in depth on the gameplay and lore of every Souls game including a bunch of Souls-likes in the off-season. Each episode is an area in the game so it's easy to ingest as you play through it yourself. It's technically finished (but who knows if they'll revive for Sekiro) but I know I loved listening through them talk about the game areas as I played through them, and I'm re-listening to the first game episodes for the remaster.

Seconded. I ended up doing this on a whim after seeing someone mention Bonfireside Chat on Twitter, and it's been fantastic.

Tempted to repeat the process for 2 and/or 3...

Not trying to be a smartass, but why not stay hollow then?

I already gave her 10 and her legs start moving better after 80 humanity, plus she loses her really pained dialogue (though she's still in pain in general).

Because I love PvP and I'm not trying to take that part away. I'm just not dealing with the Giantdad shit all night. Not only is it annoying to fight, it's cheesy and played out. I did think it was funny when it first came out though.

Oh I bet you'll never guess what emote they spammed as I turned to run off a cliff!

The worst is when those Generic dime a dozen Giantdads can't even play the part. I message them stuff like "you're just min maxing in giants" or "Shiva of the East?" and they either don't reply or just throw back insults.

Dude it's Shiva the Deceased, come on.

Anyway, I'm glad I don't care for PvP and that jolly cooperation is brimming with activity. I never thought I'd get summoned for ceaseless discharge or Centipede Demon but here we are. I have 87 Sunlight Medals if anyone needs any!

I even sort of Role Play in full Leeroy's Paladin set. Load up Power Within and just run and smack things and cut tails regardless of what the others are doing. I can even eek out a Symbol of Avarice Praise the Sun just before VICTORY ACHIEVED if I'm fast enough.
