Plus it uses Twinkling Titanite for upgrades, unlike boss weapons which require harder to obtain Demon Titanite.

Black Knight Sword is alright because of its high base damage and bonus demon damage. In addition to not being able to buff it, it's also shorter than other greatswords, slower, and bad R2 attacks.

Pretty sure my Knight Shield+5 already has that. That bastard Ornstein is just too damn fast. Also if you don't have Solaire it's basically impossible to "separate Ornstein from Smough" so you can actually get hits in. You'd think that big hammer guy would get himself stuck behind the pillars, but nope! And he's not even slow! How the hell does he move that fast! Lol.

You should have at least a +10 shield and weapon when you get there. Did you get the large ember from the depths?

I did, but I was mostly upgrading my stats to this point. And I sure as shit ain't turnin tail and running back to the Parish, when I'm one boss fight away from getting the warp. I ain't goin thru Snek Fortress ever again, lol.

People forget that Dark Souls is arcane as fuck and tells you nothing :P. And I didn't wanna suck the fun out of it by humping a guide the whole way. I only found out after beating Blighttown that I had done a major sequence break by heading there straight after Undead Parish and there were three other areas I needed to go back and do.

Did you not get the elevator shortcut? You can skip 95% of the level with it and barely fight any enemies, just that archer outside the boss room, and the one snake outside the cage at the bottom (plus the two snakes at the entrance but you can basically ignore them).

And I didn't wanna suck the fun out of it by humping a guide the whole way.
Respectfully, how did you get the Drake Sword without a guide?

I did not get any elevator shortcut. You know, maybe I should give Nioh a try, lol. Dark Souls is great but mayyybe this is not the kind of game to make into a Metroidvania.

The Drake Sword trick I learned from an Era thread called "Coolest ways to cheese a game" or something like that, lol. I thought it was awesome and when I got to that part I remembered it immediately.

Yeah, that Sen's elevator is easy to miss. I never noticed it on my first character. Did notice it on my second though

Jolly cooperation has given me more souls now than I know what to do with. What should I spend 500k on, if I don't want to level up anymore right now? I have all the sorceries and pyros that I've found, and my weapon upgrades are limited by colored chunks and embers that I can't just buy.

they made it easy to miss on purpose because they place that giant lizard creature right in front of the elevator so you become distracted by fighting him and then running out of the way of that other enemy shooting lightning bolts at you...very easy to not see the shortcut

Depends if you do PvP or not, but stuff I like spending souls on other than levels are:

- Pyro glove upgrades, if applicable
- Green blossoms (sold by the vendor in Sen's, I think by Marvellous Chester too)
- Fire/lightning resins, if applicable (if your weapon is not buffable, disregard obviously)
- Stocking up on arrows, usually large and poison
- Stocking up on moss, homeward bones, and other supplies (transient curses, humanity, etc.)
- Buying boss armours from Domhall of Xena, if you're into collecting that useless shit :D

If the elevator is down at that point, you've already found and activated it. You first activate it in a room at the top where there are two empty cages that don't look any different from all the other purely decorative empty cages in the place.

So remember when I posted this:
Did anyone notice this bug (been seeing it since the patch) when fighting 4 Kings, where you see the actual 4 Kings' silhouettes before they spawn? And when they do spawn it's not even necessarily where the silhouettes were, making it a complete clusterfuck?

I don't know if this happens in single-player but I was helping a friend last night and we all saw them in his game, and it was freaky!
I actually took screenshots at the time, and later recorded a clip of myself as host doing the same coop run with this friend (because it was a ridiculously close fight with our low DPS at low-level haha), but never got around to upload them, so if anyone's curious as to what that looks like, here it is (this was before the actual boss spawned, my friend hadn't dropped down yet, and they stayed there the whole fight too):
DARK-SOULS_-REMASTERED_20180604004017.png

Here's the clip where I juuuuust barely win as host (different character), same glitch, making it very annoying to see what's going on:

What is stopping you from running back? You make it sound like it's a grand undertaking, but from the boss room door to O&S back to the Parish is a 5 minute run. If you manage your stamina a little bit (i.e. don't let it go completely empty) you can sprint past every single enemy on your way back there except the archer atop Sen's Funhouse (who has his back turned to you, so simply walk up to him and stab him in the back) and maybe the snakeman when you exit the shortcut cage in Sen's Funhouse. But if you made it through Sen's, you should be able to handle them. (If you don't, consider it useful practice.)

And even if you die... so what? You try, you die, you learn, you try again, you don't die anymore. I would go so far as say the amount of times you died is your real level in this game, and not that soul level number the game displays on your character screen.

I realize that I'm really terrible at this game.

Like I have no idea what sword to make, which bosses to attack first, and how to make a character...

A sense of personal pride. Lol.

Also Snake Fortress suuuuuucks. I barely made it through with 10 Estus the first time, and it's not like my stats/gear are that much better now. Maybe I should look up where this magical elevator is tho. If it's near the top I might consider it...

If you have a lightning spear then upgrade it, two or three shots and those snake head things are done.

I have no such spear :/

Apparently the elevator can be accessed right on the top floor though? So it should be easy to get to. I need get a weapon up to +5 before I'd even need to go back to that blacksmith tho, lol. So back to grinding this easy souls zone. But more informed this time! :P

I mean, I get what you're saying. I could have made bosses easier to beat by changing my play style, but I refused to do it because I wanted to kill them my way. But at some point you have to ask yourself what pride there is in getting your ass handed to you and refusing to improve yourself.

Stats don't say that much in this game. Gear makes a bigger difference, sure, but even the best gear won't do you any good if you don't know how to use it. Cliché, but it's true. So get back in there and learn where the enemies are, how they attack, when they leave themselves open, etc. etc.

And if you don't want to... the elevator is indeed right near the top. You only need to kill an archer which has his back turned to you anyway, so just backstab him.

Yes, the elevator is in the room before the boss. However you need the same key used to unlock Old Hat Logan in the Fortress to operate it. I can't recall if the elevator can be unlocked with the master key.

After unlocking the elevator you can go from the top of Sen's to the Parish in about a minute or so, so you can get to Andre to upgrade your stuff. You can buy large shards from the Crestfallen Knight at the top of the Fortress. Thn just Homeward Bone to the Sen's or AL bonfire. It's super quick.

Yeah, I am willing to change some things because Ornstein and Smough is literally unbeatable the way I was approaching it, lol.

And that archer literally takes two slashes to kill, so if that's all I have to do to get back to blacksmith than I feel confident doing it when the time comes. First I need more Dex, and a shitton of Twinkling Titanite for this sword, lol. So I've gotta level up and have some souls left over for the other blacksmith who sells those.

Why not try setting down a summon sign near O&S or the Iron Golem?

Getting summoned for O&S will give you fun, consequence free practice and you'll see how other players approach the fight. And it'll net you a ton of souls.

The Iron Golem is also a good source of souls. Get summoned and and you'll get souls super quick, as well as a bunch of humanity. The fight literally takes like 30 seconds.

Are there hitboxes issues in this remaster? Bull demon, Capra and the the butcher all couldn't hit me when they were swinging from their left to right and I was close to them. Weird

Yeah it's right before the boss really. No enemies between the boss and this elevator except a puny archer. You do need to get the key to unlock it. It's the same one that unlocks Logan's cage. If you don't have it, you have to jump across a broken bridge (near the top, again no enemies around), there's a vendor in that tower too, and at the bottom of that tower is a lone flamberge snakeman you can easily kill for the key. If you miss the jump, you take some fall damage (about 60% of your health) but you don't die, so don't worry.

I can't recall if the elevator can be unlocked with the master key.
It can't, sadly. Weirdly enough you can free Logan with it, but not the elevator.

There are, of course. Unlike in DS2, where attacks hit you when they shouldn't, it's more that they miss when they shouldn't, sometimes. And those monsters have weird-ass hitboxes, yes. Grab attacks are also still bullshit, and some attacks also have ridiculous tracking/trajectory correction. That said, I think this is a pretty good hitbox from a Capra, I posted it just a few hours earlier: my attack missed, and it indeed was just an inch short, and his attack went above my head as it should have (IIRC, the giant Heide knights in DS2 have similar hitboxes, I remember crouching to cast some spell and their sword swung above my head and didn't hit me, was pretty neat):

It's a matter of the way your spec your character and personal preference, but all things being equal, the BK Sword is one of the best weapons in the game bar none. High damage, requirements that aren't steep, scales with STR/DEX, deals slash and thrust damage with R1/ R2 respectively, not too heavy. Its only downside is that it can't be buffed with resin or magic.

Say no more, im tired of using battle axe anyway, only downside its her weight, gotta leave that stone set.

Currently level 35 on my sorcerer run. Doing alright considering I usually build a pyromancer into a strong tank (aka lmy stats building is largely plunged into VIT, STR, DEX etc) with added pyromancy skills. This time I've barely touched VIT, END and STR.... while putting my souls into Attuine, INT etc.

Paying the price though as I generally do require bigger health to take some "punishment". I've had a lot of one hit deaths (gaping dragon swiped me with his tail.... the only hit I took in the fight after getting his down to just under half. I died :( ). Funnily enough I zoomed through Blighttown and Sen's Fortress. Anor Londo's early part was fairly easy to navigate. But I'm stuck at the archers before the bonfire :-(. I've only made it up to the ledge twice and because my sword (Scimitar +5) is weak, I have been unable to get past that point.

Even if I do somehow make it through there on my current level, O&S will destroy me in seconds. So I may end up taking a mini break and boost a few souls so I can get some more health points.

Sorry for the double post, but is there any point in increasing Dexterity [for a warrior, at least] beyond the minimum you need for a given weapon? Like, what does that stat "do".

If the weapon has no scaling with dexterity, then no it doesn't do anything. Many weapons do have a little bit, you can check in you inventory by pressing X or Square with the weapon highlighted, then looking to see if there's a letter (S, A, B, C, D, E) under the dexterity symbol (a hand).
I believe it also slightly increases the speed at which you cast any magics.

Generally not worth levelling it for a weapon that has D or E scaling in it (unless it ONLY scales with dexterity or is like D Strength as well as D Dexterity), but it will still add a tiny bit of extra damage.

Ah, okay. Thanks for the detailed explanation. The Black Knight Sword I'm using now has Dex scaling E so I guess I won't bother with that, lol.

For some reason I can't get Knight Kirk to invade me in the Demon Ruins. What am I doing wrong?

- He invaded me in the Depths, and I beat him
- I killed Ceaseless Discharge
- I placed the Lordvessel
- I haven't fought Demon Firesage
- I'm human

Does it matter that I'm in the Chaos Servants?

edit: I got it. I think it was getting blocked by players invading, and I needed to quit/reload to get him

I'm kind of ticked off right now... I gave the chaos servant lady 30 humanity and the door won't open. My stats show that I'm +2 in her covenant and everything. I checked the wiki and it says there's a bug and the way to fix it is to defeat a boss, so I did that. I actually did it twice, and the door is still there. No idea what to do now. Is this a bug new to the remaster or something?

You certain you're at the right door? Because new players often think there is an illusionary wall at the end of the hallway in the Fair Lady's room, while the door in question is much farther in the Demon Ruins, and you need to take a right just before the Firesage Demon fog wall.

Also, it doesn't open automatically. Instead, if you have her covenant at +2, you should get a prompt to put your hand on the wall, causing it to open.

If that also doesn't work, there's always the option to get the Poison mist pyromancy (at least I think it was that one). Since the poison clips through the door, it should kill the bug in question.

As we've already established, Snake Fortress is cancer and I will never be going back there except to use the elevator :P. Thank you for telling me where it is though.
You went through Sen's with a Drake Sword +1 - of course it was rough.

Even if you don't get the elevator (which you should) you can be top to bottom in Sen's just as quick as using going to the elevator. There's a drop chute that goes from top (where the double pressure plate and last set of swings are) to the bottom (where the Slumbering ring is and actually overlooking where the elevator takes you). Either way makes it a few minutes run from O&S room to Andre at the Parish. If future if you ever need to backtrack, don't sit at any bonfires on the way and simply use a homeward bone to return to your last bonfire - cuts every journey in half.

btw, you already fell in to one weapon trap, I would leave the Lightning Spear alone! :p

Bet you're at the wrong door. You can't access this door until you've placed the Lord Vessel after defeating O&S. Just before the Demon Firesage boss room is a right path - that's where the Lost Izalith 'shortcut' door is. If you haven't killed O&S, or haven't killed Ceaseless Discharge, you're in the wrong place.

I didn't like my character build so I started the game over again. I thought I was being brave when I decide to go down to the Catacombs and kill Pinwheel at Lv.1 because I was doing a doing a suicide run to the Tomb of Giants to grab the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring (in which I was successful in obtaining) but it seems like killing Pinwheel at Lv.1 or really early is s common practice?

About 60% of players that invade me, summon me, or I'm able to summon is wearing a Pinwheel mask.

I can't help but judge people who wear Pinwheel Masks when they invade me.

Going down to Combs and Tomb is pretty fun early on - I remember the first time I did it and the absolute nightmare I had getting back out again without Lordvessel, it took me HOURS. Part of the reason DS1 is the best.

Struggling with Anor Londor bosses; don't have any fire weapon or resin, and couldn't be bothered tracking back.

Also have no humanity to summon.
