I'm sooo bad at this game, but some people are just TOO goods! I have no idea it is a hard thing to do with so many players, but some kind of matchmaking with poeple on your level would be much appreciated :)

Still, I managed to get two #3 positions in Solo. One of them with 4 kills wooo! I do well with the hiding and the sniper and detecting enemies and shooting from afar, but whenever I have to engage in a close shooting I lose the fight most of the times. Also building is a bit frustating. I understand that it adds to the game once you get the hold of it, but seeing the things other people do and the things I am able to do makes me wish it wasn't there (again, playing with people more on my level would solve this).

Everyone, make sure you turn up all the audio settings in the menu. Makes enemy detection so much better. Also, change controls to pro builder.

Splatoon and PUBG Mobile have ruined all 3rd person console shooters for me, if Epic can get gyro aim in, and get this up to 60 FPS, it'll easily be my daily cooldown/bedtime game. Till then, I really dunno...

Have they said a anything regarding battery drain and other performance fixes?
Of all the games I have, this one kills Switch battery very quickly and also makes the console fan go crazy.

It's a shame Paladins not releasing f2p now, it seems more polished although a very different game.

Yeah, I noticed this about the battery too. Digital Foundry got 90 minutes of game time on the iPhone X Fortnite, from full before the battery died.

How is the Switch version compared to others?

From what I can tell, it looks very similar to the base PS4 version, with some minor cutbacks to shadows, reflections and draw distance. Runs at dynamic 900p docked/dynamic 720p handheld and a mostly solid 30FPS (with minor dips here and there where things get very hectic).

If you like Fortnites pace, you won't get that in PUBG.
I hear this a lot but I have been playing Fortnite pretty much how I play PUBG and I am having success. No wins in solo yet but I am doing well.

The only plus PUBG has is that you can go prone which can be a big deal when it comes down to the final few on the map. I don't really care about vehicles.

I never liked the building mechanic in Fortnite but if I barely use it I can still get by just fine.

Just broke the foundation of a staircase while two people were climbing up, and both of them fell to death eventually. Pure satisfaction lol

I've bought 500 Vbucks on my Switch and see that I have 750 vbucks on my account when I play on the switch.

But when I play on the PC, I only have 250 Vbucks

So it seems they are linked to the platform, and not to the account ?

Is it the same for you ?

The VBucks I got on Xbox months ago, were on Switch when I started it. Maybe there's a delay?

VBucks purchased are tied to the platform while VBucks earned via battlepass are not.

Got my very first victory after 6 matches!

I built a fort on a bridge and no one comes to me after the first two waves of circle closing. I got out when only 10+ people remaining on the map. When I was running to the next circled area, I found a sniper rifle sitting on the ground and discovered only three people left. I hid under a huge tree on a hill, suddenly someone shooting at me from behind. I originally want to snipe him but discovered that he switched to a RPG. So I switched to a shotgun and rushed towards him. He panicked and couldn't aim and eventually got killed by me. The last people decided to build a wall around him/her, but I got back to the hill and utilize the elevation advantage to snipe him/her.

Although I can tell this victory is mostly due to luck, I still feel really great! Love this game!

Played a team match, didn't see anybody until the end when one guy killed my whole team in 5 seconds while rapidly building some kind of tower.. lol! I guess there's no skill based matchmaking. It's ok, the game is still fun!

Quick question: If I join from PC someone who is playing on Switch, but I use a gamepad, does the game still match us with KB+M PC players?
The sudden bafflement Nintendo fans have for a control scheme that's been standard since the PS2 is really baffling.
Yeeeaaaah, phones without a headphone jack are becoming standard now, too. Doesn't mean it's a good thing.

The last time shooters needed twin sticks on a Nintendo platform was the Gamecube; every Nintendo system since then had a far superior way of controlling shooters. Having to go back to an early 2000s era control scheme is tough when you are not used to it.

I'm terrible at these kinds of games, but I somehow came in 2nd place (mostly by hiding like a little bitch, lol) in solo mode. I doubt I'll ever win one, though. It amazes me how people can react so quickly to my shooting them in the back by almost instantly conjuring a fort and then headshotting me while hopping.

I can usually get in the top ten or even the top five in solo mode with one or two kills. I don't think I'll ever be able to get used to using analog sticks over a mouse and keyboard, although gyro aiming would help.

Starting to become burnt out on this even from the little I've played. Is there no different environments in Fortnite? Just the one map?

Don't mistake lag you might have with the game running bad cause it doesn't run bad.
Nah, frame drops up the wazoo. And that's with a target 30fps with shitty resolution. Runs bad.

Well, finally got a win, I fired it up on switch and had no problem even without any building (literally not a single staircase or wall).

Uh, no? Definitely not 'frame drops up the wazoo' the game runs fine.

So it took the Switch release for me to fully understand why Fortnite is so popular.

I dabbled in Fortnite's Battle Royale on my PS4 early this year. It seemed like a fun FTP title, but the lack of any tutorials and the huge gap in player experience led to me moving onto something else pretty quickly. The ratio of loot gathering and hiding vs. actual competitive shooting was also a turn off.

That changed last week when I decided to give the Switch version a try. It took me about three gaming sessions in bed before I learned the finer details on when to gather building supplies, what to search for/keep in your inventory, and how to build an adequate fort. Now a couple of rounds in bed have quickly turned into hour+ gaming sessions. I have won three solo matches (which I mostly chalk up to having more newbs like me in the playing field) and a team match. Each victory has been very satisfying. The final four is extremely intense, and teaches you to take risks from the moment you land so you can be properly equipped to survive a final showdown. I also played some duo matches with a colleague, and that was a blast.

My enjoyment of Fortnite has not gotten to the point where I am pulling out my credit card, but I can see why some would. The intensity of the final moments of a match and the satisfaction of winning is very addictive. The cosmetic unlockables are fun, and the battle pass objectives give you a good reason to try out new weapons and methods of play that help make you better at the game.

yeah fuck shooting people... just build shit while other people take care of the enemies...

You stay alive and build your little house on the island, it's great

My theory is that this strategy being viable is a part of why Fortnite has become so mainstream. You can stay looting on the inner edge of storm the whole match without seeing another person until the final 2. Then just proceed to launch a few explosives at the base of your competition's fort and thank the loot gods for your Victory Royale!

Obviously it's not always that simple. Though it is very easy to consistently place in the top 10 with such a strategy.

And, for that reason, I view Fortnite as the Mario Kart of shooters.

How is the Switch version compared to others?

30 vs 60 FPS. Visual downgrade compared to other consoles and iPhone it seems shorter draw distance but it's still a decent game on switch. Paladins while different is better looking, faster and smoother product imho. Shame they didn't release the free paladins yet I'm really digging the team deathmatches and battle pass (direct ripoff from fortnite- but it make sense!)
