I guess I don't go often enough anymore (due to crowd's being awful) to tell.

I used to go multiple times a week (during my grad school days I had a perfect 1130-3 gap most days and was walking distance from a theater) but once that was over and I started going at night time with awful crowds I only go like once a year to a regular theater + once to the drive in.

I usually avoid the opening week of a movie, maybe two for a blockbuster title. I also try to stick to late showings, only going Sunday-Wednesday. With those two parameters, my viewings are in mostly empty theaters.

The AMC plan seems pretty nice. Online reservations, repeat viewings, and three showings a week is more than enough. The only theater I use MoviePass at is AMC so I guess I'm in luck.

Need a family option and I'm in. Reserved seats at our local new AMC has changed the way we go to movies with kids. We know they will be good seats and we know we can be late/early and not sit through an hour of commercials before the movie even starts.
I do wonder if this will affect their $5 Tuesdays and $6 matinee on Saturday/Sunday morning. Those are fantastic deals.

Eh, it's a good deal but i see most stuff matinee which usually ranges $5-$8 and i don't think i would see more then 2 movies a month unless it's a packed month. Being able to go anytime including IMAX is pretty tempting though. $14.99 with discounted concession would have been a slam dunk.

I was about to say the same thing. For an individual this seems like another brainer. But it quickly adds up for a family of four (soon to be five). Matinees have been great not just because of the price but because after the movie we still have the rest of the day available to do as we please. We don't go to the theatre very often but a family plan might change that.

Now let Regal do it and add a family option and i'm in. The only AMCs close to me are utter shit

I'm really surprised they didn't introduce a couple's or family plan\ with this. My wife and I use the same Stubbs account, so we accumulate points fairly frequently. Spreading that across two accounts would be an annoyance. But the idea of being able to go to see IMAX movies at any time would be tempting.

It's a good deal if you can put up with the 45 minute pre-roll of ads and trailers before your movie starts at every single AMC.

That's the beauty of reserved seats. Show up 20 minutes after the official start time. We noticed it's 22-29 minutes of trailers so come in 15-20 minutes after and you're golden. We can leave the house 5 minutes before movie start, get there, park, walk in and sit through 1-2 trailers before movie starts.

Yeah that's probably the strategy I'd employ, because holy crap do I hate sitting through that preroll.

Yeah it really will need a family option. It looks like it's going to be a pain to use with my wife getting it too - unless I'm mistaken, it looks like she's going to have to get her own AMC account and independently order her own ticket (or for every time we see a movie, I have to order one on my account, log out, then log into her account to get ticket). Ordering advance tickets for major premieres as they go up (like for something like Infinity War where auditoriums were 80% full in minutes) will carry a risk - if I'm too slow getting the ticket on the second account, I might miss out on getting an adjacent seat. This is more of a fringe case but it'll still be a problem for major Marvel and Star Wars pictures as they come out.

The AMC Stubs points being independently gathered across both accounts is also going to be a pain.

As I said in the movie pass thread, this seems like a worse deal to me (price, can't earn as many stubs points, AMCs around me never have artsy films) but I welcome the competition in this space.

This is actually a pretty fantastic deal for me. Most of the theaters I go to are AMC, and the local ones have a good selection of smaller/indie movies. I already spend well more than $10 a month on "premium" showings that aren't covered by MoviePass, as well as ordering advance tickets for big movies on opening weekend (practically all theaters in the area are reserved seating now so advance tickets are a must). I do use my MoviePass occasionally at non-AMC theaters, but the amount of money I'd spend buying those "manually" will be much less than the money I currently spend on what MoviePass doesn't cover.

80% of movies I see are indies that don't play in AMCs near me so this is useless

ATOM already supports AMC Stubs so I wonder if they will support this. If they do then you can easily split the multiple ticket purchase after grabbing two tickets and have each of you 'Pay' for them.

I don't see how. This pays for the ticket, so this would have to pay Atom somehow, be a card, a la Moviepass. Stubs is just a frequent flyer number in the end, but this is way more than that.

Why didn't this happen when I used to live in the US. The hundreds/thousands of $ I'd have saved on going to the movies. :(

I am with those that hopes there is a family plan of some kind, as we love going to the movies. We have a large family and an individual subscription really doesn't do us any good.

This seems like a much better deal for the average movie watcher. I hope it's brought to Cineplex in Canada for when I move back, but until then I'm just going to keep using moviepass down here since my usual theaters are indie theaters instead of AMC

I just enrolled in AMC Stubs Premiere, what happens if I enroll into AMC Stubs A-List?
Your AMC Stubs A-List membership includes benefits of AMC Stubs Premiere. If you are currently a Premiere member and upgrade to A-List, we will pause your current Premiere membership. If at any time you cancel A-List, your Premiere membership will be reinstated for the duration of time you had left prior to joining A-List.

I was worried that this would overlap or cancel out my remaining standard-premiere stuff, so this was good to see. I'll almost certainly try this out.

Moviepass wasn't worth it for me because I prefer the premium theaters, but this seems like a pretty good deal.

That's quite the exaggeration lol it's no more than 20 at worst. But there's ways to avoid this if you don't like trailers or don't like sitting through a lot of them, like going in a little later for example.

Definitely getting this since I only watch Dolby Cinema anyway.
Out of curiosity does your theater offer multiple theaters with Dolby Cinema, or are you held hostage to whatever one movie is playing for the week? I like those theaters but there's almost never anything worth seeing playing in them.

It's up to the theater. The one closest to me is definitely 30 minutes of trailers, but all the other AMCs do 20.

One time I movie hopped and saw 5 movies at that theater, let's just say it was a really long day.

Think I'll be signing up for this. My town only has an AMC and a Regal, and I rarely drive out to Regal. Being able to go to any of the premium formats is killer, same with pre-purchasing tickets ahead of time, neither of which is possible with MP. I was reading their FAQ too and they stated for regular Stubs Premier members, the old membership will get paused and then resume where you left off if you decide to cancel A-list.

I'm jumping on this ASAP. The fact that it includes premium showings and discounts on concessions, paired with your Stub account extras? This is a no brainier.

This is amazing. Glad AMC was the first to jump into the sub game. (Cinemark's offering is weak compared to this)

(I live in South FL, many AMCs nearby)
I usually bring my own snacks, but yeah this is a no-brainer for anyone who watches more than 1 movie/month (and doesn't mind losing the flexibility of using a different chain).

I've been waiting for something like this all my life, it feels like. Finally big screen aficionados get some love!

... I might so it, but my fear is that I wont use it enough. Especially when there has been less and less movies I've been wanting to see. But it gives me something to do since the nice AMC right by my work.

No you can't. It says you can't make a reservation until your current one is over. You can do three in one day, one after another though.

A-List reservations can be made any time after movie tickets go on sale. Members may not have more than 3 reservations at any time, regardless of whether the showtimes fall within the same week. You will not be able to make a reservation if the start of that movie begins before the previous movie ends.

So what's stopping you from buying 2 tickets to the same showing for you an a guest? I must've missed that in the article.

I think it's saying you can't make reservations if the movie times overlap. Otherwise that's not really three concurrent reservations.
Hmm maybe. They should make that a bit more clear

Do you go to the one next to the Staples center(is that one even AMC)? I live in O.C. so the theaters are a bit better in this area.
There's only one Dolby in OC, no? I go to the one at Orange everytime and it only has 1 movie a week. I think once it had a different movie at 10pm because it was a popular horror movie.

That's a Regal, I believe. I'm in Santa Monica within walking distance of two different AMCs, so this is probably a no brainer. I've mostly been going to the Arclight, lately, but the AMCs just got refurbished a few years ago.

Did I read that there are also discounts on concessions, or was that only because the Stubs program is free if you sign up?

This would be cool if I watched more than a handful of movies a year, I'd have to watch at least two every month for this to be worth it. Still a cool idea though.
