For those who have seen it, what kind of roar do we get out of the T-Rex? It's silly, but I was disappointed big her big roar in the first World. It was not like her classic roar from Park, but the classic roar was always teased in the trailers leading up to it. The same th8ng with this one, so I am worried it's just a cruel joke like last time

Resident Evil (the game, in the mansion), with dinosaurs.

I enjoyed it, but in spite of the script.

I love all the mansion stuff. The pacing that led to it is wonky though.

It's all over the place, but I was giddy during the first 5 minutes.

T-Rex was even worse in this then in World.
She just appears and eats randomly people now, has nothing really to do.
That is this entire movie summed up. The dinosaurs are no longer animals, they are mindless monsters or "cool factor" set pieces. It doesn't work.

Blue, Stiggy, and the Indoraptor are the only dinos that had some sense to their actions.

Spoiler:

Side note: the blood transfusion between the Rex and Blue is fucking absurd. Ugh I hate this film.

They arent even cool. The Rex in Jurassic Park was damn cool since her scenes were always well build up. Now she randomly drops in, eats somethings, and screams.

The first 5 minutes of JW2 are Rex perfection.

The rest of the film completely ruins her. They really do not get it.

Rexy had some of the best scenes of the entire franchise in the first minutes of the movie.

Rexy in Jurassic Park also had some scenes that where really random. Mainly the finale where she came out of nowhere and saved the day. It started the trend of Rexy becoming a heroine.

I'm glad Rexy didn't do much besides the first minutes this movie. It would have been overkill if she had killed the indoraptor

About Dino's not feeling like real animals in Jurassic World 2
The Brachiosaurus scene was heartbreaking. Seeing him/her crying when the lava devoured her left me feeling empty

I personally loved this movie, it had some fantastic cinematography. There where a couple of legitimate jump scares. A couple of conversations where straight out the first book and I liked how different this movie was.

The only thing I did not like was the lack of Isla Sorna mentions. The only things we know from the website is that:

The eco system has been changed and the spino is missing in action.

It's never stated there aren't any dinosaurs anymore on Sorna. The Rex family should still be alive. I really hope they adress Sorna in JW3.

Can someone explain to me
how it's possible that these dinos are gonna cause the apocalypse when there aren't enough of any of them to have a sustainable breeding population (not to mention most of them are herbivores)?
They're not going to cause the apocalypse, but even a small number of dinosaurs roaming free in the United States are gonna rack up quite a kill count before they get taken down.

I'm still struggling to get my head around how cartoonishly evil and stupid the many, many bad guys are in this film but I think Toby Young's introductory scene takes the cake:

"Hello, I'm here to sell some dinosaurs. WHERE ARE THE FUCKING DINOSAURS!? SHOW ME ONE RIGHT FUCKING NOW."
"Oh, uh, they'll be here in a few hours."
"A few-- a few hours!? You what, mate? You're taking the piss! They might be the last few remaining dinosaurs on Earth but if they're not here right here right now you can fuck right off."
"Oh, uh, I was gonna smother an old man with a pillow but I guess I can push that back and you can come see the super-raptor we keep in the basement."
"Good. Introductions to Vladmir the Baby-eater don't come easy, you know."

Then again, there's also:

A gun that shoots dinosaurs. Approximately 0.00000000000001% effective as a gun that shoots bullets. Seller is not responsible if dinosaur eats you.

I've seen better written Resident Evil films.

Worst part is, these aren't even the films biggest issues.

I'm curious. Did any of you expect to not be disappointed?

I expected better than this.

Not to mention the ones that were auctioned to all sorts of shady people
Yep.
They clearly show at least one of the auctioned dinosaurs being loaded up and shipped out immediately, so we can safely assume that others were as well. I think the lot numbers were into the twenties before they brought out the Indoraptor

I'd been wantonly reading spoilers in this very thread so I was well prepared for the dumber plot developments, but just how hackneyed and amateurish it all felt knocked me on my arse. It was as if it was written by Garth Marenghi.

This movie reminded me of Resident Evil.

Not gonna lie, i'm kinda hopeful they go full-on dino planet of the apes for the next one (if there ever is a next one) with the world being overrun by dinosaurs

I think the original Jurassic Park is a damn near perfect film, a 10/10, easily. I only put a few films in that category.

Jurassic World was good, dumb fun - nothing amazing, but an enjoyable blockbuster that was way better than the first two sequels. I'd give it a 6 or 7 out of 10.

I thought all the trailers for this looked like hot garbage. The director is a nobody. I had heard the rumored spoilers and they sound so dumb. I went in expecting a 3/10 or so.

This is, without a doubt, one of the absolute dumbest scripts I've ever seen unfold before me. It's beyond stupid. The twists are some of the shittiest I've ever seen. Furious 7 has master class writing compared to this.

But you know what? I had a blast. The movie just blows its load over and over again. Every dumb ass set piece they could imagine is thrown on the screen, and surprisingly strong camera work really makes everything come together - there were a couple shots that were non-ironically fantastic. At the very end, the movie feels expensive as hell - nothing is cheap looking, which is an issue I tend to have with a lot of modern blockbuster films. Was it an objectively good film? No way! But entertainment wise? I cant believe I'm saying this, but I'd give it like an 8 or 9 out of ten.

Again - it's stupid. But it's a very enjoyable stupid. And it doesn't skimp on the action or "hero shots" at all.

This sounds like my attitude towards things. I'm now cautiously optimistic.

In the opening scene, why is Ian Malcolm talking to US Government about whether they have to kill or save dinosaurs. Isn't the Island where the dinosaurs are, considered to be in Costa Rica? Shouldn't he have been in San Jose talking to Costa Rican government instead?

The opening scene is actually a flash forward. He is talking after what happens in JW2.

I don't think that's necessarily true.

I believe both he and the senators - or what have you - are discussing the volcano and he's explicitly asked if it should be considered God's will, which would be a pretty redundant line of questioning if the dinosaurs have already been rescued.

Malcolm's sections were one aspect of the film I actually liked, though I'd pay for a ticket to watch Jeff Goldblum read from the phone book.

Since it releases in the US tonight and the thread has been pretty much exclusively tagged spoilers for ages now, I'd say let's make this an open spoilers topic.

All I know, is I sometimes hate social media and fan communities. Because I'm so embedded into it with Jurassic, when I share I'm not a fan of Fallen Kingdom I'm just met with so many toxic replies and it's super frustrating and tiring.

This is entirely why I barely bother with the Star Wars community. I feel like Jurassic is marginally better, at least here.

Are they? I thought the same during the opening scene and I think it is meant to feel like he is talking about the volcano. But the ending makes it quite clear that he is talking about wild dinosoaurs roaming Earth and the senators are actually asking how to deal with that situation. And it makes sense, since the volcano is not on US turf, it's not their problem. The end is.

Jurassic was better, until about a year or so ago.

It brought on a new wave of angry at everyone who doesn't love everything crowd. At least it doesn't have the huge abuse the filmmakers crowd online, yet. That said, I feel those who can offer nuanced discussion are falling more and more quiet, as the hyperbolic warriors take the forefront.

Thats so weird. Most people I know even casual audiences thought the last movie was silly and this one looked way worse.

It's really put the diehard fans on edge.

I mean, I LOVE the franchise, and am deeply invested, but I just want good films, and don't fault people for expressing critical opinions. God knows I express mine.

But I also don't have a meltdown when someone has the opposite view.

Yup, dropping Star Wars fandom like a brick. Dropped JP fandom years ago. Not worth it.

The island is property of Hammond and later the Masrani company. That probably makes it a US affair.

I do wonder how people would react to Jurassic Park today. It's my favorite movie ever but it has flaws. Some characters you could argue aren't fleshed out. Lex and Tim are annoying and even JP has plot holes. Rexy saving the day is also something that comes out of nowhere.

A sad side note: Irrfan Khan, the actor that played Masrani in the first Jurassic World is fighting cancer. The odds aren't good.

Jurassic Park was criticized for those things when it came out.

I rewatched Jurassic Park just the other day.

Tim and Lex are incredibly charming and well-acted. They have annoying moments but overall, they're a great example of kids in movies. The "Grant learns to love kids" story mostly works because of them.

Rewatching it again, these main things stood out as negatives to me:
  • The script sometimes being too cute (Laura Dern's fantastic performance can't save "I didn't have enough respect for that power and it's OUT now!") and putting lots of buttons/one-liners all over the place.
  • 90s character/casting trappings (Nedry being a messy, greedy, fat slob; Gennaro being painted as something of a scummy type even though he's actually kinda doing a good thing via his security/safety audit)
  • Some CGI has aged poorly (mainly the brach)
  • Honestly, some of the sets just look cheap. The control room and the tiny-ass raptor pen, specifically. Others (like the generator bunker or the main visitor center) look ace.
  • Silly stuff: Rexy saving the day (which mostly works, but is absolute deus ex machina), Grant and Tim having their Prometheus moment and not just climbing to the SIDE of the jeep when descending, Tim not doing anything at all during the hacking scene.

Man, I have no idea what to think about this movie. The first two thirds are a fresh new take on Jurassic; the volcano eruption makes for a good reason to go to the island and provides some interesting action sequences. It makes you feel for the dinosaurs because they don't deserve to go out this way.

Then the third act starts and it goes totally off the rails.
A super genius monster dinosaur toys with people and hunts down a clone child inside the Spencer Estate and an animal trainer fights it off with his pet raptor.
Sounds like total nonsense. It's so schlocky, and while it's great fun and does quite well as a more horror-focused sequence it feels like it was taken out of a totally different movie. I wish the trailers hadn't given away so much of the latter sections, too.

The film's got some great cinematography though, there's some great sequences where the lighting is used to build up tension for the more menacing dinosaurs.

That was the best directed big budget stupid movie I saw in years.

The director was very impressive with the way he shot some scenes (especially the first minutes and the confrontation in the mansion).

But god, what an overly complicated scenario for a story, so, so, so dumb.

But even if it's forgettable, there is a scene that stick with me :

The Dino being traped on the island with the lava and smoke coming closer. It broke my heart and I got tears. Damn, it's still hurt my stomach a week later.
