I just got into Brian The Sun.
Any recommendations to stuff similar to this?
Guitar work reminds me of early Arctic Monkeys.

The commercials for the Sakamichi auditions are hype

I'm actually pretty excited to see the 2nd gen members of Kanji Keyaki. I think what they especially need right now is strong characters to liven up their variety stuff tbh. Also I guess it'll lead to the birth of an Under group so it'll be interesting to finally have a senbatsu system for them (even tho it means some of my favs like Naako will be pretty much be stuck there if more talented members join the group).

Not sure Hiragana Keyaki already need a 3rd gen since they got new members like 10 months ago but hey.

As for Nogizaka, 4th gen will have to be reaaaaal good cause the 3rd gen members have some super popular members already like Momoko, Yoda, Yamashita, Kubo... And if you add to that some 2nd gen members that still haven't made into the main roster, hmmmm. I guess they assume a lot of original members will graduate soon tho.

Kinoko Teikoku's vocalist is releasing a solo EP on July 25

Nogizaka46's 21st single will be out on August 8. Hyped for a summer song. Kinda hope we'll get a brand new center but I'm not holding my breath. Yamashita would be good...
Also if Ayane is still an Under there might be riots in the streets.

Was wondering if anyone checked out KPP in NY tonight? Been trying to find out what the merch situation is like. Getting pumped up for this wednesdays show in SF.

Youtube isn't really the best place to listen to music unless you just care about music videos (and that's for any music).
The JP Apple Music has pretty much all I need. Non JP Spotify and Apple Music used to be wastelands when it comes to J-Music but I guess it got better recently? Haven't bothered checking.

New mini-album will be out on September 5th. Can't wait.

They've released two digital singles recently so I hope a full album is around the corner.

PillarEN Finally got around to see Kyary and loved every second of it! Was surprised how great the backstage set looks and enjoyed seeing all her outfits. Was able to get a T-shirt in my size as well :)

Only thing that kinda bummed me out was that the umbrella yokai didn't show up in the concert but overall was a fun experience.

Little pic I took to show off the amazing set.

:)

Your venue has a somewhat larger stage than the one Berlin had. The set is clearly in view everywhere. I also dug the little pre-concert video. I assume she kicked off with Fashion Monster at your gig too? It's only fitting and gets the crowd going.

I clearly remember the fox showing up, then some really tall thingy (probably the middle monster). Can't remember if there were 3 monsters that showed up or not. Definitely don't seem to remember an umbrella one.

Ya Fashion Monster was the sure concert starter. Crowd got really rowdy during Kira Kira Killer and Ninja Re Bang Bang with PonPonPon making everyone jump and ending on a good note.

Damn seems like the umbrella monster isn't showing up in the international concerts then :/

Kurita Spotify in EU is pretty darn good for Japanese music. I know last summer when I was visiting the States I was severely underwhelmed. But I guess even there it's getting better too? I will report. Heading back for a few weeks to see my friends there at the end of the month.
What's kinda cool is that Spotify doesn't force US Spotify on you immediately. Last year it seemed like a week before it went "Hey you aren't located in the CZ. Now you are using US Spotify. Deal with it" lol.

EDIT: Though my understanding is that if you have a sub, the sub is always specified to the region you are subbed in. So let's say theoretically I was subbed to EU Spotify, even if I was in the US for the next 6 months, until my EU sub would run out I would still be using the EU Spotify selection.

Neol It's racking in my head now. I cannot seem to remember if a third monster showed up or not. Gah. Well whatever. The gig was so good. I know it was worth the trip for me. Gonna be hard to top for me this year.

A quick check of a handful of artists I listen to on Apple Music JP on EU Spotify shows me there is still an awful lot missing.

Certainly looks better than it did a year ago, but nowhere near what I would call good or sufficient enough to switch back to.

Yeah Spotify doesn't let you use the Premium of a different region unless you have a payment method from said region. The Free version is just "Oh you're in this country so here ya go, you get the local catalogue".

That's why I use Apple Music since you can use iTunes credit to pay your monthly sub, and it's incredibly easy to get Japanese iTunes cards online. I get them from Play-Asia and it's instantly delivered via email. At this point I don't even mind having to pay a little more than the "real" price since I get so much content. I used to spend a fortune just to get like 2 albums on the Japanese iTunes before Apple Music was a thing.

Hmmm, kinda boring music video which is disappointing since I love the song

Happy to learn that King Gnu are doing the ending theme for the upcoming anime adaptation of Banana Fish. It's a cult classic manga so a lot of people will discover the band this way.

Should give them a nice boost. They also got a new song dropping next week so I hope that an album is coming very soon, they're one of my favorite bands discovered in 2017. Wouldn't be surprised to see them going major before the end of the year/early 2019.

Hiragana Keya's album is absolutely fire.
Yeah it's pretty sweet. I think my favorite new song is 線香花火が消えるまで. I forgot who the members singing were, and to my surprise it's my 3 favorite 2nd gen members : Kanemura, Tomita and Matsuda. Yay, you go girls.

I also really dig all the solos, especially Mirei's solo わずかな光, as well as ひらがなで恋したい. Also shoutout to 割れないシャボン玉 that sounds like an early Perfume song.
Overall the sound of the group is closer to Nogizaka than Keyakizaka.

Yeah it is definitely more traditional idol pop songs. Which makes sense, given the "innocent young" theme hiragana has over Kanji's more edgy cool neesan feel.

How did it take me this long to finally find this thread?

I'm basically a complete neophyte when it comes to Japanese music. I mean, I saw Elekibass at the Athens Popfest way back in 2005, I have the House soundtrack, I dug The Pillows' music in FLCL enough to pick up one of their albums, I bought the first Imaginary Flying Machines cover album, and I was given a Korg Miku pedal as a gift a couple Christmases back, but that's basically been it.

When we moved into our new house back in January, we noticed our new TV provider carried NHK, so my wife and I have been tuning into J-MELO. Since then, I've gotten a couple of albums each by Scandal and Silent Siren, and my wife, of all things, has gotten really into PassCode.

I've been looking into discovering more, so I'm glad I finally stumbled upon this discussion.

holy fuck this is good!
this group is so good too!
thanks heaps!!
The vocalist, Kawatani Enon, also has another band called indigo la End who are equally good

And he writes the songs for DADARAY (same bassist as ゲスの極み乙女。, the support drummer and guitarist are from indigo la End, one of the vocalists does the chorus for the other bands)

Find a band with a sound I think is really cool...

...Find out they have disbanded before making enough music to keep me busy for life.

The vocalist started a new band with Straightener's drummer so you can check them out. First album dropping in two weeks. It's different but also pretty cool.

Thanks! The debut track didn't catch me like his other band, but I'll definitely keep an ear out for the other tracks.

I wonder if the rest of the album will have the heavy Tom Morello vibe too.

BiSH released a surprise 2-tracks single today, in addition to Life is Beautiful/Hide the Blue

Guessing it'll hit digital stores at midnight.

Has anyone listened to Utada's latest? I'm in the middle of it and think I like it more than Fantome.
