I feel like they made that up after making it specifically for Resident Evil, and probably calling it RE engine (referencing resident evil) internally, cause they realized they could use it for everything.
I mean, it does have a moon on the logo but yeah, really seems like they only planned to use it for the Resident Evil games (I mean, what other linear game is Capcom gonna make? a new Onimusha? Dino Crisis?), they've been a Resident Evil factory for quite a while, but since the guys working on DMC5 used the engine, they probably thought that they should sop calling it the Resident Evil engine.

Really good interview.
-Mentions that one director worked on RE2, and the other has worked on multiple RE games since the first.
-Confirms adaptive difficulty like RE4
-Soundtrack is based focused on maintaining tension when fighting zombies
-Window boards have a big impact later on (unclear if it effects the other campaign or not)

And more
I like everything I'm reading aside from the music bit. But if this is the original composer's vision for this version of RE2 I can live with that. Maybe the soundtrack will be great and be implemented incredibly well in the final game. I'm still incredibly excited.

Gonna semi-disagree. Unless you're rolling out an old school CRT to play the game, Gamecube version via emulation holds the best today (outside of Vita on it's small screen).

- High resolution character models, ability to skip all scenes (even in-engine one's), 60 FPS FMV (I think, not 100% sure).
- Additional emulator based smoothing options which enhance, or at least smooth out, 2D background quality on higher resolutions.

Notice all the store front names, car bumpers etc to see the cleaned up aliasing on these ancient 240p backgrounds.

Woah. That's quite a jump from the PS1 version. Actually looks like a Gamecube-era game.

Such a shame that RE3 doesn't get that much love from the modding community on dolphin.

Finished Leon A in 4h46m

Had a blast. Though I haven't met Mr X yet.

How do I change discs in the PSN version (PS3)? The "Switch Discs" option was greyed out.

Yeah all the faces are actually scanned actors from a modeling agency. So they're all literally super-models.

The difference really is not (much like DMC5) the characters are no longer completely hand made. Thus why they've all dropped that anime/realism look they all used to have in basically every game prior to 7.

I personally prefer the Realsiti Anime style. But RE2 modes are a much better fit here than what they did with Chris. So I'm guessing his sacrifice helped the other characters we'll see in the future stay more in-line similarity wise.

Since we already know RE7 Chris was literally just picked because they thought he sorta looked like RE5/6 Chris and not until later did they realize they sort borked that and it was too late to change anything.

I'm sorry Crossy but according to RoH the new face models are LITERAL SUPERMODELS haha

Who wouldn't be in love with neo-Leon? He's like the most beautiful man in videogames.

I know this will sound really dumb, but this method I think works well with RE. Long before this the characters of RE were all abnormally attractive anyways, so them being scanned off actual modeling agency people is kinda' fitting in that B-Horror kinda' way.

After playing REmake on PS4 last year, I have been thinking of playing RE2 for a while. Is it worth playing the original, or should I just wait for the remake?

I agree. I mean Ada was already doing backflips in cocktail dresses. I like my fabulous RE characters.

There has to be some sort of unlockable costume content in the base game right? The Deluxe Edition doesn't have Leon's RE4 look listed or Claire's original outfit. Hard to imagine they'd make an Elza Walker costume, but not either of those.

Yes they hire a fashion agency when they can models but they made edits after the fact, the characters don't look like they just got done preparing for a photoshoot.

They look like that to me but ok. It's not bad.

I think The word you were looking for with the old models was "doll-like". They don't look like perfect dolls anymore but like perfect humans. Which, given the new realist tone, fits better.

It's not just about looking like people but also having genuine flaws. Leon's skin is dirty, sweaty, and has visual blemishes. Those kinda intimate details make the characters more grounded.

Damn the bite mark is leaving a sizeable spread. Maybe this is what it looks like when Leon is in Danger mode ?

Still genuinely of the only times gore in a game has made me uncomfortable.
This E3 was truly the year of the intestine.

I'm not into this new level of gore either (in cutscenes, anyway), but video games will continue to desensitize me and all will be well. I do like the zombie damage modeling even though having the arm dangle before it falls off is pretty gross.

I feel sorry for Ethan's model. "Hey, we're hiring you to be the face of our game's protagonist. Except we will use your face only for a single character render and you will be barely visible in game for a split second in a single scene."
Highly likely that he wasn't even told that it was for RE let alone that he was the protagonist, Besides Jack is the face of the game.
