To me the saddest "part" of the trilogy is when Luke gets trapped outside Hoth base and Han is running around the base trying to find him. The dialogue and acting there really sold me on the relationship between Han and Luke.

The saddest thing in ROTJ is how the Emperor didn't use the Death Star 2 to blow up the rebel forces and then blow up all the ewoks on Endor.

There was an actually subplot that was filmed and eventually cut where Palpatine instructs JerJerrod to fire on Endor, but he is conflicted because his men would be killed as well. You should be able to find it on youtube.

And while we're talking about Ewoks can we put to rest this nonsense that the Ewoks solely overthrew the troops?

If you watch the Battle of Endor again you'll see that they...

- surprise them and surround them
- outnumber them
- are smaller and more camouflaged
- the Emperor's troops split up to go after them which allow the rebels to break free and take up the fight

Buuuuut...

- the Ewoks eventually get their asses handed to them.
- the rebels are pinned to the bunker entrance and can't get in.

Finally the tide shifts when - and only when- Chewbacca grabs an AT ST and starts shooting at the troops.

- the Ewoks then use logs and lassos to take down enemy ATSTs and speeders
- Chewie continues firing on troops and other ATSTs
- The rebels with guns are able to take on the remaining troops
- Han uses the stolen Walker, dresses up like an Emperial soldier and radios to the troops to come out and bring reinforcements.

So...yeah... the ewoks were a diversion tactic who took down a few soldiers and walkers, but they didn't take down the Empire single handedly.

When I was a kid in theaters watching ROTS, the deaths of all the Jedi masters along with Anakin killing the younglings upset me pretty bad. Hell even just seeing the Clones turn against the Jedi was upsetting. I didn't watch ROTS again for years.

I think it was in large part due to the Genndy Clone Wars getting me attached to all the various masters as well as the Clones, along with seeing Anakin (a character I loved) go full bad guy. How he executes Dooku got to me too.

Obviously I was a kid and everything, but ROTS definitely had the greatest impact on me of any single Star Wars movie. Nothing else has even come close

OP is kidding right? Why would I care about this freaking Ewok? I know absolutely nothing about them, because the writers didn't give damn. They just went for "look at this thing and now it's dead" and tried to get away with it cause they're supposed to be cute.

The same thing happens in TFA when they use this huge ass cannon and destroy planets. You see ppl dying you have never seen before and you are supposed to be feeling for them. It's lazy writing and yet it gets a pass.

Like I said. Revisionist history. Ewoks were never a problem for people until the prequels made it OK to hate George Lucas.

Thanks Mr. Lucas, I never realized the prequels implanted false memories in all those people's heads, so to have the creator confirm this and not just some George Lucas dick rider is awesome!!

The ending shot to Empire Strikes Back actually does get to me sometimes. I think it is the power of the Han Solo & The Princess motif.

We know they are indigenous people caught in the cross fire of an intergalactic war they know nothing about. Despite that, they are brave enough to fight against an incredibly powerful enemy to help their new friends. Not sure what else the audience needs to know to feel their pain and sacrifice.

Lucas loved WW2 references, and I always assumed this was representative of the Pacific islanders. Like the "cargo cult" scenarios.
