This looks really good.

Haven't watched this one yet but the live Q&A they did the other day made it really sound like we aren't getting characters like Max and Chloe again in LiS2. Basically accepting that some fans won't be happy with what direction they go in but they hope most will connect with the new cast and themes they explore. (My biased opinion: beating around the bush to say they won't be focusing on queer women again.)

yeah, but Life is Strange is not about teenage girl or queer women.
Life is Strange is about "relatable characters facing real world issues but with a twist of a strange".
As an expanded universe,it's great to see differents characters.

Hey folks! We've just revealed the release timings for Captain Spirit. Here you go!

PS: How do I make an embedded image smaller? Don't want to ruin people's screens with a massive embed.

Awesome looking forward to it, got it "pre-ordered" so will be ready to go Day One. Always interested in seeing what Dontnod can cook up!

This looks really good from what I can tell for a free game. Going to try this on my lappy but I really wish this was coming to mobile platforms, probably too demanding I'd assume.

One of the things i appreciated with the first game was the fact that, unlike most modern "adventure" games, there was no time limit at all, both in conversations and decision making. Apparently, this mechanism found it's way into "before the storm" (which i skipped) and from the eurogamer article on this, i have the impression it is going to be included here aswell so presumably also in LiS 2? It's a shame if true.

No time limit in Before the Stom.(edit: except for the backtalk challenges)

In Captain spirit, because it's a free game and a stand alone, they 've changed the story telling a little bit,it seems that it's a bit closer to some Quantic Dreams games:there is a timeline ,so you can't see everything on your first playghtrough.
You can stay in your room or you can go and play outside for example. It's closer to a narrative "sand box" game than the other LiS games.

The new thing is that you can talk with your father without interrupting other actions.

More details about the game and Life is Strange 2:

-there is one ending in Captain Spirit, but differents paths to it.
-Some choices made in Captain Spirit will have a consequence in Life is Strange 2.Lis 2 will import your save file.
-You get to pick which ending you chose for Life is Strange at some point in LiS2.

Also music !

Imagine being an adult and still does what the kid does in the game.

That's basically me. I'll relate the fuck out of this game.

Well said. I actually think it's a great platform to tell stories beyond just the established cast. I know some won't like that, but I think Chloe and Max story is over.

My only gripe is that I feel they did a poor job wrapping up the story (or maybe it's that I think they needed more time to flesh it out more). But in terms of the actual plot itself, their story is over.

I guess it's one of those things where some may feel the "life is strange" name shouldn't be a franchise. That it should be specific to one story. But I'm personally down for an anthology video game series.

I honestly never thought of Chloe or Max as queer when I played the original series. Did the writers say that's what they intended, because I guess that went over my head.

It'll release when Valve get into the office and our Steam man in our office here in London presses the big red button.
Toby, may I make a request regarding the upcoming Steam release?

On Steam, there's two different configurations for "free" titles:

-one where it's basically treated as a demo, and you have to go to the store page every time you want to install it (the game is never added to your library), and if for some reason it gets removed from the store in the future, you're out of luck;

-and another where the game gets added to your account, and shows up in your library, so you can freely and easily re-download it like every other game, even if it gets removed.

Can you please pass the suggestion of going for the second configuration, so this free prequel can show up on our libraries, next to the rest of the series?

Thanks :)

A good suggestion - I'll doublecheck to see whether we're in that second category. I believe we should be.

Hey folks! Just a quick one to say that while we're good to launch in just a few minutes from now, we have encountered some technical difficulties on Sony Europe's side. We're currently investigating and will keep this Tweet thread updated.

Dontnod need to announce the first patch for Vampyr on PC, a month since release and the KB+M controls still don't work correctly, and the performance and optimisation is terrible after the first 30 minute segment. It really grinds my gears seeing them announce another game whilst completely abandoning their AAA priced game.

Toby, sorry for bother you again, but the game launched, and it ended up being configured as the first option (meaning, it's not actually added to your library, you have to install it from the store page every time you want to play, and when uninstalled, it's gone from your library).

Do you think you can pass on the suggestion that, if not for this to be changed, at least when one pre-orders Life is Strange 2, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit ends up being added to our libraries, both for convenience, and to ensure that the game isn't gone if, for some reason, it gets de-listed in the future?

thanks :)

Hope this isn't an inappropiate place to make a request SE Toby.

Just to preface with what I stated in the OT regarding the 3rd party DRM;

Prompts me to skip it for now in any case. I've had Denuvo throw up compatibility issues on my previous build, most 3rd-party DRM are generally shady as hell even if most of Denuvos supposed symptoms can't be tangibly confirmed and, even if it's free, I'd feel shitty encouraging it.

Do you think there'd be the possibility of Denuvo being removed some time down the line? Or that it mightn't be present in LiS2 proper?

With earlier experiences of it in mind, any game using Denuvo is not something I ever plan to fuck with again, so I'll probably skip LiS2 unless/until it's removed (as I had with BtS). Though I'm definitely aware Square Enix have proven not to be as pragmatic as, say, Bethesda when it comes to removing Denuvo and probably expected to avoid removing it for years if not forever. As said, I really can't encourage it.

Apologies again as I'm expecting that it's totally out of your hands.

I've bumped our Steam dude about this again - I had been told that it would be the case that you desired so I'm checking up on that now.

Unfortunately I can't comment on whether DRM will be removed at any point from any of our titles due to the sensitive nature of DRM discussions overall. Generally speaking though, in the Life is Strange team, we do always take our playerbase and community into consideration when making decisions and we don't take difficult decisions like this lightly. We always want to ensure that there is a very good reason for what we do (and in this case, a number of people in the various Denuvo threads have already guessed that reason, but they have unfortunately been ignored by others).

As a side note - Denuvo was removed from BtS with episode 2's launch, in case you did skip that for that reason. That's not an indication of policies or anything we would do in future, but more an observation that we can indeed "think pragmatically" as you had requested.

Just going over due diligence for this request atm on Steam, then we will likely look to add it given the overwhelming support for the idea.

Thanks again for all your efforts, and taking the time to do this, I really appreciate it. :)

I forgot to mention, there's an alternate way to make the game part of our library, without changing the current configuration: if you release any paid DLC, not matter how cheap (for example, a small soundtrack sampler, or an artbook), if one buys it, the game gets added to our library.
It can be an option, that could also result in a few extra funds for Square Enix.

It's essentially a free hook for Life Is Strange 2. The original Life Is Strange's first episode went free to play a year or so ago and the game's sales exploded as a result. Allowing the first episode as a free playable demo is apparently a big sales tactic.

LiS2 will about this kid?

I was hoping for more adult characters and themes...oh well.

Apparently the article on the dining table in the demo is about their dad. Cop killed their dad, and I'm guessing the older boys power gets activated in the moment and kills the cop accidentally. It's probably why they are on the road to Mexico. They're names are Sean Diaz (older) and Daniel Diaz(younger)

I started playing this with my 6yo daughter not knowing anything about it. Super sweet intro, she had fun choosing the costume and then a few minutes later it's all "Dad you're drinking again" and dad dropping F bombs lol.

lmaooo yeah there's some heavier shit going on in these games. The first LiS involved some creepy ass shit. Cool game for adolescents, maybe a little too mature for a 6y/o.

Missed this til now.

I feel I came off unnecessarily blunt in my original post so apologies for that.

My concern that prompted the question, apart from my reasons for avoiding it, was that, out of the 10 (excluding CS) games from Square Enix that implemented it and have been cracked and piratable, only 2 -- Hitman and BtS -- removed it (not sure how much SE had to do with the former at that point, and the latter allegedly had a "weak" implementation that apparently affects games built with Unity).

Not to single out SE mind - most pubs seem to seldom remove it - SEGA even once implemented it in without disclosure (leading to one of the developers getting mad and a lot of backlash).

In any case, yes, I bought BtS Deluxe almost immediately after it was patched, and I'm playing CS on PS4 for now and really enjoying it, so joke's on me for agonising over it I suppose. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This game hit close to home for me. Fuck.

Man, me too!! I just played it and I need to go back and play it again to see all the stuff i missed, but i really liked it.

In a weird way watching the dad from this kids perspective while he was drinking and yelling at the TV during the basketball game was kind of an eye opening moment for me, because it honestly reminded me of myself and how I can act when I'm watching football or whatever in front of my kids. Kind of a depressing experience thinking back on it, though that's not to say I didn't enjoy it, it just made me feel a bit emotional lol. I blame the Sufjan song!

Really excited to play LiS 2 now

Interesting that you saw it from a different perspective from me. It's cool that a game can do this.
