We are living in an age where millions of people follow instagram girls who are literally just talking selfies and posting paid promotions and ads and nothing else.

This guy though at least created something mildly interesting. I still think all pianists and ppl who perform classical music should not be praised as if they are super special. Also any money they get from the government for "cultural reasons" is a giant joke and should be taken away.

At the end of the day, a lot of music is more about image than content. It's performative. It plays to visual and cultural conventions. It's the reason most people prefer a YouTube video than listening to soundcloud or whatever. It's just product, and not exclusively for the ears.

Maybe it's always been that way, like Opera, church chanting, tribal dancing. Who knows. I'm not going to get stressed about other people's opinions or tastes, manufactured or otherwise.

I just find this guy's super cringy and eye-roll inducing.

Certainly, and the bewilderment is strong sometimes. "Seriously? This? This is the new hotness everyone is so into? I just don't get it." But I guess I don't have to get it. There might not even be anything to get. Like hearing / seeing mumble rap for the first time. I'm not sure that's gettable for someone like me.

Maaaan, after Space Harrier got rejected I thought it sounded like something Mega Man but I couldn't place it.

SweetVermouth: Nice work, good vibes. Like the synths too.

Hey all.
About a month ago I got KORG Gadget for the Nintendo Switch. Though I listen to a lot of music, I can't play an instrument to save my life and I've never written a single note. Despite all that, KORG Gadget ended up becoming my new addiction. I spend at least a couple hours a night messing around with it, trying to come up with something interesting.

Playlist - https://soundcloud.com/gabriel-jones-733187195/sets/songs (tracks are ordered from newest to oldest)

The general theme here is "random". If I happen upon something that I think sounds good, then I'll run with it. The song titles are mostly nonsense.

Did they add an option to export audio? or else how did you get them off the Switch

Been working on this for some time but couldnt come up with something to extend it so I guess ill call it finished. Its again supposed to be soundtrack-ish.

Cool stuff. I was checking your Soundcloud and you have some good work. Particularly enjoyed Memories, really like the melodies and overall atmosphere.

House heads! I'd love to get your opinions on my last mix I made. Not claiming any of these tracks, I'm just the blender! I've been wanting to create a "DJ OT" thread for awhile now but I've never made a thread before, let alone a a decent OT. Perhaps someone here who DJs and creates mixes as well could help me out. People could share their gear, set up, mixes etc.

I like it, very cool video game level vibe!

I used a standard male-to-male audio cable. Ran it from the Switch's headphone jack to my PC and then used audacity + mp3 plugin to export.
I used to do this with DS-10*, hate that there is no easy way to sync. Sure, most DAWs have tempo correcting but I'm lazy, I don't even like comping my vocal takes so if it isn't creative editing I usually just say fuck it and roll on heh. Currently I'm using some iPad apps and running midi to/from over USB and recording from the headphone jack. The noise level sucks but my only other option (and not even available for Windows folks) not involving wireless (ehhhh) is to run an aggregate device (not a fan, adds latency and IME stability issues) or pick up ANOTHER interface (using 3 right now). So I've got a RME Babyface Pro in the ole queue, but not top priority any time soon so the jack will have to do.

*I should find that damn cartridge, "game" was a lot of fun :)

Hello, I did some electronic musics with audiotool sometime ago, and I recently tried to improve an old disco track of mine https://www.audiotool.com/track/funka_draft2/ .
Not my style, but sounds good to my ears! Could maybe stand a bit of smoothing on the resonant peaks and I'd roll a little high end off that high pitched horn stab as it's a tad shrill for my tastes. Good stuff!

I wodner if it'd be fun to workshop works in progress. To that end, have a demo I've been working on that has some potential. https://dbr.ee/c853
Needs ballad-y vocs, perhaps BlueBadger could whip something cool up for it?! I'd love to give it a whirl but my voice isn't good enough for such things... ;)
And are you proposing "trading" tracks around for collaboration purposes? I could probably post a work-in-progress, as it were...

I had to put my treatment project on hold, the money I had set aside for it got spent on other stuff after my company offered me a promotion/raise then said "oops! we fucked up, you can't have THAT much rt nao lolwtflmao!" so yeah... I've got most of the material really just need lumber/hardware and Safe 'n Sound for my corner traps (and a shed for the boxes and stuff being stored in here right now). I re-organized some of the crap in my room after my wife decided she wanted one of the cabinet thingies I had in here for her work room and clutter-wise it feels MUCH better- seriously, I had a pile of stuff behind me eating up space in the room. Got all that tucked away and did some slight rearrangements, good for now. Won't help cleaning up my vocs but I'll make do. I guess :|

So I mess around making hiphop, and want to try making music that would fit a tv show or movie. Been a year since I made anything cause I've been grinding at my job, and now want to get back to it.

Despite not actually making music I have spent the year buying all the good software I heard about on Music Radar. Bought Kontakt, had FL Studio from years ago, just finished off paying for Serum (Splice rent-to-own is great). I am trying not to go on a spending spree and actually sit down to learn the synth/ DAWs, but my friend has Massive and it's tempting.

I have no music training, and only have started learning about music theory from youtube videos. Before then I just punched in notes that sounded good and it takes me a REALLY long time to get something out.

Here's a couple of my Hiphop beats:
https://soundcloud.com/sword-of-the-stars/opening-words-2-11-2017-short
https://soundcloud.com/sword-of-the-stars/1994-smooth-ride-rough

And here's an attempt at a tv show intro:
https://soundcloud.com/sword-of-the-stars/the-leading-star-12-30-2016

Please critique and I will return the favour!

I totally understand the grinding at work equalling less music time. My last job was physically and mentally draining, around 5-6 years ago I all but stopped musicing, fell into a bit of depression and started playing games a bit too much. 20+ years will do that I reckon. My new career is nowhere near as physically demanding and I have had a resurgence of desire to muck about with music again... haven't touched a game in months (although some upcoming titles will surely change that, I'll have to find a balance)!

RE: gear acquisition syndrome... It's tough. At least Massive is cheap but if you like NI stuff maybe one of the Komplete bundles would be a good look, fill in some gaps you may have and can be had for a decent price from time to time... At least your wants are fairly simple- I'm looking at new monitors next (2K+), another Apollo (would like a quad rack to ease load for real time channels, I have a Duo SF 8 and a Duo Twin, DSP stays maxed without even touching using plugs in DAW), a Dangerous Source/DBox, some mix bus hardware (Silver Bullet at the top or maybe a Fatso), a RME BFP for my iPad, moar UAD plugs and Satellites, a 8/16 fader controller, Softube Console 1, a decent hardware EQ, more preamps, some HD 650s or DT1990s and another set of DT770s... never fucking ends lol! I will say that what I have is more than enough and extremely capable- outside of more room treatment and (arguably) monitors I know I don't need any of the above. Still want :)
I can envision some laid back raps, on the second track esp. Second track could also stand a bit of an intro, something to ease into the track proper. Arrangement is good, maybe a bit more variation with the drums and a couple extra parts to add some movement/energy and some eq/dynamic adjustments might bring some enhancements. You are on the right track, keep at it!

Okay, I need to get my work job done so I can get back to making noise!

Been working too long on one project, doesn't even feel right to release in the summer anymore.

Think I wanna make a playboi carti/pierre/famous dex new wave kinda thing for fun, will probably just make a mixtape to keep it simple.

Let's see how this works out

Thank you, yes going too far with resonance and pitch is one of my bad habit, I will try to keep this in mind next time.

And an original song as well!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ve69MuRagw

Oh okay, you sound pretty aweosme. Let's work together! As a repayment for anything we come up with I could offer to help with some production on your end. To get a better idea of what that means, have a look at the last two releases on my end, since they are both stylistically different (One is really snyth heavy and the other is done with a lot of virtual distorted guitars in the style of rock songs.)

https://soundcloud.com/starlightmasquerade/sets/revolution

https://soundcloud.com/starlightmasquerade/sets/blue-eclipse

In terms of what that means for covers, I think this is the only thing I've done that sort of counts? It's a semi-remix, semi-mashup, semi-cover of a few themes from Jim Sterling's show. https://starlightmasquerade.bandcamp.com/track/the-sterling-express

I will never say no to help with production, because it's where I'm definitely the weakest! Just ask The Kree LOL! I'm glad you liked what you heard! Let me know if you need anything and I can try to help if it's in my wheelhouse. :)

That is seriously amazing. Thank you so much!! I want my YouTube videos to sound pro, honestly. And I suck at it. LOL!
Well as you're going for video, first thing make sure all your sessions are 48kHz SR(Sample Rate) 24 BD (Bit Depth). That's generally standard audio spec for HD video files plus you get more headroom over 16 Bit. You shouldn't have any import conversion issues when making a video in software and then rendering. Also try to render as high bitrate as possible while keeping reasonable file size. You don't need 4k videos for example but rendering 1080p H.264 at 8 Mbps bitrate (not the same as bit depth btw if any confusion) should yield decent results image wise with good sound quality. Anything below HD, don't bother... It'll sound awful via YouTubes conversion tools.

Also another thing to be mindful of is Loudness. YouTube takes this into account and will turn down audio if it's too loud according to their spec through normalisation to level match, but currently I don't think they turn up quieter ones.

What I was thinking we could do is a true collaboration, a track started and designed to fit your voice. We'd need to start with some raw chord progs, I think.

I was also thinking we could develop this track publicly, via the medium of this thread. We could give people an inside look into our production process and invite comments and suggestions. I think that might be a fun attraction for this thread.

Well what software do you use to record songs? & what do you use to create/render out videos to then upload to YouTube?

Just subbed on this thread. I used to frequent the topic on the old forum, but rarely posted. Since I made some purchases today I thought if there was some producing topic on Era and here we are :)

Anyway, ordere this today:

2 Samson MS200 heavy-duty studio monitor stand set
1 Numark M6 Total Black 4-channel
1 Audio Technica AT-LP120USB HC
1 Cerwin Vega XD4 x2
1 AKAI MPC X
1 Innox IVA05 laptop tabletop stand

I have a history of producing with tracker software but felt more and more out of touch with it. I always loved physical producing and have been eyeing MPC's for years. Now the MPC seems to be a full fledged workstation and got a pretty big price cut I decided to take the plunge and start producing again. With it a turntable and mixer for sampling and scratching. Very exciting to build up a small studio again and start working on music :)

Okay, I've worked together some chords and put them on a basic piano sound so we can figure out the details later. Think you can sing to something like this, or d'you want a different sound? It's a bit rough rn by it's very nature, including in arrangement, since we'll be dealing with that suff later. https://dbr.ee/f1ia

Honestly, I just record with GarageBand (i don't know what other software to use cause I'm a newb LOL), and I film with my camcorder at the same time, and use iMovie to put the audio and video together... Then I save and upload to YouTube...
So caveman, right?

Right! When you figure something out vocally, make sure you send me the isolated vocals so I can put them in the project itself and work with 'em. ^_^

And remember, the arrangement is like that so it's the most basic sound. We can change the instruments, arrangement and the like later if you decide you like the chords. This is generally the best way I know of to just get a feel for how the chords sound when played and how vocals might work with them.

I'm relatively new to production, made this over the past few days with Logic Pro X.
It's orchestral with some synths, all plugins and instruments are stock.
I've wanted to do more with some of the melodies but I like how it came together overall.
All feedback welcome, I'd like to know about the mastering in particular.

Edit:
Got plenty of feedback, pulled the track for now.

I like this. Enough to make it louder lol, if you are interested in hearing what horrors I've committed against your nice song, lemme know X_x

Also, something I've been fooling around with...
