Yea it's real dumb in light of ranked.
I left like 5 matches in a row in the setup phase because it was at minimum 4 damage characters (double sniper, doomfist, and some other random hero) each time and I didn't feel like bashing my head against the wall. If It was ranked, them fine I get staying because it just means a 5v6 but in QP, that spot will be filled when I leave. The leaver penalty just makes me give less a shit about playing QP instead of encouraging team play in anyway at all.
Idk, most of my qp matches start with 4 dps and end with 2/2/2, other team won't have a proper comp and will probably with something sillier than yours, you just need to not tilt on selection screen, if you expect a reasonable composition, QP is the wrong place to find it.
There's this guy in latam psn that always leaves games and insta queue, rejoins the same game, leaves, rejoin, leaves, until the team got stuck on an unwinnable 5v6 situation and he's always in my games, why does he even plays it? People may think it's harmless but when they do it regularly they are just souring someone else's experience because they have no patience, that's why the penalty is there
If these were all at the selection screen yeah, the game is pretty dumb... but idk leaving won't help that much, as long as dps is the "cool kid" job...thats why most of casual players here sorta went to mistery heroes :s
But well if leaving over hero comp on qp is your turf, just take a break until lfg hits next week.
