Thanks, that worked. Just got off with them, they suggest uninstalling/reinstalling the games. This will bork my mods though, won't it?
I'll try installing a brand new sim. Any suggestions? Automobilista has good FFB doesn't it?
AMS or the free demo of rF2 will do the trick.

Borked mods will be on a sim by sim basis. Luckily for you, you don't have more than a terabyte of AC mods.

Had a very quick look at rF2 at lunchtime. Is it supposed to recognise the wheel as a CSW like pCARS and Assetto do, or do you just map the throttle, steering, shifting etc from the inputs?
The UI sucks ass!

Got my issue fixed last night too thanks to Mika from SimuCUBE. Stupid USB problem as always, lol.

VERY anxious to try out the new VRC Indy Cars tonight!

AMS has the most enjoyable physics and force feedback of all simulators.
And it has complete and working content out of the gate, which is rare for this type of racing game.

AMS worth a punt? Was showing as £15 with the season pass yesterday, £20 this morning and now £21 though?

Yeh I saw that.

I would have got it for £15 all-in but I'm finding it difficult to justify the £21 considering its an aging platform and the fact that I have so much untouched content in the other sims I already have.

Yeah I put in a request. 5.3hrs of playtime and purchased over two months ago. We'll see. I can always ask them to simply remove it from my library.
I was forced to remove vanilla AC from my account without refund so I could purchase the UE version. Lame.

Now I'm going down the rabbit hole of deciding what other racing games to buy during the sale. I'm leaning towards, I dunno...all of them.

Feel-wise and car-physics believability-wise it's my favorite sim.
I don't think, I'm a super weird outlier either, Billy Strange from ISR said not even a year ago that the Caterham from AMS was his favorite car experience in any sim.

Yes, it has too few of the cool cars from racing history (except open wheel F1, there it has all the cool stuff... or almost), but the tracks are super lovingly made and there are a lot of good ones that you don't get anywhere else. The AI is pretty good as well.

If you get it, really get the season pass as well.

As someone who owns all the sims bar iRacing I would say unless you need another one don't bother. There are too many to play them all and with them developing a new one just wait for that, it's only worth investing in the ones with ongoing development IMO as you aren't going to get decent playtime in before the next one drops.

Unless of course you have a ton of spare time in which case have at it.

For fucks sake.
Why can't I steer in rF2?
Can map pedals, paddle shifters... but not steering.

Fuck this hobby.

Edit:
AHA! You have to rotate the steering wheel all the way to the left or right before it'll map it.

Unfuck this hobby.
Fuck sims that aren't Assetto Corsa!

Anyone not got rF2?

Got some keys to give away tomorrow night courtesy of S397, i'll be giving 'em away on my Twitch stream tomorrow evening. :)
I've not got it. Only just tried the demo today*. Felt really good actually. I was surprised!
How does one win a key? Send nudes?

*with my old wheel

You've had over six years, Mascot. How have you not purchased rF2 yet?

Also, this thread brought back some memories. ;)

I just tried out the rF2 demo, and...wow. I can't believe how much feedback that game was giving me. I purchased the full version ASAP.

Friends having a issue calibrating his T3PA pedals in rF2, the conical brake mod is only letting him get 25‰ pressure.
What's the procedure? Full pressure then click max in the pedal settings?

He has to open the Thrustmaster control panel, get to the screen where you can see all of the inputs (I forget what it's called), fully press the brake pedal and it will detect you are using the brake mod and set that as the max range for the pedal.

Then open the sim he wishes to play and he shouldn't have to do anything else, it should work as expected.

You don't have to but I open the control panel and press the brake every time but do it after I plug the wheel in just to make sure.

If he's fiddled around with a few things before doing all that then he might have to unplug the wheel (just the USB from from the computer) then plug it back in again so that it can recalibrate everything from scratch.

rF2 is odd in that you ask the sim to recognise your wheel and pedals, you then have to quit rF2 and restart to complete the task of rF2 assigning the pedals and wheel.

That said, it has the best of nearly everything in the genre so it's worth putting up with the idiosyncrasies!

Bought myself some more R3E content, namely Road America, Zhuhui and the open wheel cars I was missing though I didn't bother with liveries for once as it's not economical outside of packs and I usually only use one anyway. Also picked up the pro pack as it gave me a few more cars for cheap that I didn't have.

Quickly tried Road America in the BMW 235i but it felt way too smooth maybe because I had my buttkickers off but I was getting no FFB from road bumps at all like the road was freshly laid. Maybe an update changed some wheel settings.

Still waiting on the Forza 7 Accuforce update that's being tested as we speak.

What wheel have you got?

If you want to get more feeling from the road then lower the steering rack setting. I actually have mine set to 0% and it feels pretty good.

Yeh this annoys me. So close yet so far... the Indy circuit is pants.

Welcome to the fun it's a great sim, yeh an odd one given how many licenses for other great tracks they have!

Accuforce which had its own profile added a while back I always try Monza in the BMW Z4 as all the sims have it and it was fine there last time I tried so not sure what was going on with Road America.

Forza 7 now has full SimXperience support so time to test the Accuforce and buttkickers me thinks. Getting late though so only a quick one!

What simcade title would you guys recommend to a shitty driver, on the steam sale? Looking at a ton of them but have no idea which one to get. Thinking of picking one up.

What exactly are you looking for in this game?

I don't really know. You can consider me a beginner that's kind of overwhelmed. I've played some gt sport, and some forza 6. So far, I prefer gt sport but I'm still finishing the driving school lol. Whereas, I like forza 6 because I just jump into races with a ton of assists on and am enjoying that too.

I'm looking for something to kind of get my feet wet in pc sims. I've had a look at some of the games in the op but they look a little intimidating. Is there one there that you would recommend to a beginner? Or would you say I should just stick to apex and gt sport for now?

I was interested in getting something on steam because of the sale. That would mean three games that I could bounce around from platform to platform, one on ps4, one on xbox and one on pc.

edit: I have been dipping my toe into racing games because I was recently playing a lot of GTA online and having fun with the driving and thought I'd try my hand at them. Maybe that info helps. Thanks btw.

Hmm, I recommend you to take a look at Codemasters' catalogue.

Grid 2 is a really fun game, despite lacking internal cameras, and is very arcadey, but not too crazy.

Grid Autosport moves a little more to the simcade side, but it's still less simmey than GT and Forza. Think of something of the likes of Forza Horizon. Despite having a weird handling (that you can get used to it, specially if you're not playing with a wheel) and having blurry cockpits, I f*ckin' love this game.

Dirt 4 is also brilliant, and you can play it either as a sim or as a simcade experience (I think. To be honest, I've only played on sim mode without assists. I've never switched to the arcade mode or used the assists, so I can't tell you exactly how it is).

And there's F1 2017, which is very good too. It's a sim, but there are some assists to help you if you're having a hard time with it.

This times a zillion. Grid Autosport was the best release CM made in that era with the EGO 3 engine. Grid AS looks great (cockpits aside), runs beautifully on non-God tier PC hardware and will keep you entertained once you get your head around the physics.

FWIW, S3 have asked Fanatec for answers regarding hardware issues. It may be a Win10 update but something has happened to their hardware in R3E and other Sims.

The new rF2 Maastricht circuit is far from finished, but isn't bad for a v0.04. It's at least a v0.1 in my book!
I hope this isn't the new direction for S397.

The track looks like a V 0.001 and I'm sure is wonderful for the locals to get excited over; to me it's yet another narrow, traffic barrier filled street course. This is fine if you want to replicate Getaway in Stockholm (sans police) in rF2..

I can't be alone in that I prefer real world race tracks made by persons in the 3PA team or S397 to race the GT3 and Endurance cars around.

I'm hoping the AC ripped tracks actually hit a decent level and/or modders such as Senormen and OBD are able to make further tracks as rF2 really needs more of them.

Despite not being a proper sim, I love how "realistic" it is on certain aspects, like having free practices and qualifyings before the race, and how limited you are if you're driving for a crappy team, since you can't properly adjust your car and have no chance against the big dogs most of the time. The feeling of racing it provides is probably better than 99% of the rest of the racing games, including the the sims.

Thanks guys. I'll check out autosport, too. I picked up assetto corsa and installed it. Then played a few hours of gt sport (driving school and sunday cup in the beginner league). Had a ton of fun tonight. I'll definitely check out autosport during the steam sale.

I did enjoy it but I got burned out in the ending with the ridiculous career padding needing to complete each event at least twice, once winning normally to unlock Ravenwest and then having to win it all again with Ravenwest and if you didn't win first time around you'd had to do it even more. That and the rubber banding A.I in the Grid games although these days if the A.I are cheating I just lower the difficulty to avoid it.

Tested out Forza quickly last night, couldn't really tell the difference between in-game FFB and foundation feedback, so either the telemetry is missing some data still or it just doesn't model vertical tyre load at all. I'm going to assume the later given how the Formula trucks feel no heavier than the touring cars.

I gave the rFactor 2 demo a chance and I have to say, that wasn't bad! So I caved in and bought the game for 15 Euro (Steam sales yay!).
I love the AI and the game play feels really good, I love how clean the game looks, the sense of speed vs AC and how it performs on my outdated hardware (GTX 970 on a 144Hz 1440p screen is not always pretty).

However I'm kinda disappointed in the stock content compared to Assetto Corsa. No GT3 cars, no LMP cars or big brands (Audi, BMW etc), no circuit de la Sarte, no SPA etc. Guess I should have done some more homework, oops!. To alleviate this, are here any must have expansion packs (GT3 pack?) and mods that I definitely should grab?

On a side note, I also tried out Raceroom since it was free but oh boy, I did not like that so much content is walled off, I understand the game is free but I have no idea how much money i'd end up spending. the game played very smooth though!

That sucks.
I mean, they clearly calculate the tire loads, it's in the in-game live telemetry, just not in newton, only as the diameter of the friction circle, but... *sigh* disappointing.

Well whatever is being shown isn't being fed back into FFB. My go to test of Spa/Eau Rouge in an F1 car gave absolutely no change in feel as I blasted through there flat out.

It's not like it's undriveable though and I can enjoy it for what it is, a sim-lite and it's a good bit of fun since it makes you feel like a driving God pulling off moves that in full sims would really take a fair bit of effort and skill.
