Surely I can't be the only one who came into this thread thinking that the story was about these guys record sales?

If by "social activists" they mean people who shoot up schools or malls, then sure, their actions lead to less people buying guns.

Incoming lobby to get the federal government to subsidize gun companies. Hey, Trump wanted every teacher to have a gun in the classroom, right?

I think its a combination of market saturation, societal changes, and bad marketing. Gun sales per generation have been going down and gun makers are increasingly focusing their marketing on unhinged hoarders who think the universe is coming to an end, not exactly a big market.

On a personal level, I hate guns but I also have no real need for one and I think that's true of a lot of people. I live in a midsized city in a low crime area and I have an alarm system a gun does nothing for me.

At some point you own too many guns and then your kids get them all when you die. It's a lot of guns for the relatively few people who own them.

The gun industry acknowledges that there's nothing requiring companies from doing business with gun manufacturers or dealers. Monthly reports from the federal government show background checks to purchase a firearm are up over last year so far, so the early actions apparently have not put a dent in sales.

Still, the industry believes it needs stronger laws against financial retaliation in the future. "We may have to seek legislation to make sure it can't be done and that you can't discriminate against individuals from lawful exercise of a constitutional right," said Larry Keane, senior vice president and legal counsel for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, which represents gunmakers. "Imagine if banks were to say you can't purchase books or certain books aren't acceptable. That would be problematic and I don't think anyone would stand for that kind of activity by the banking industry."

Its more probably due to all the, ya know, gun murders, lax restrictions and such. But if they want to give people against gun murders and lax restrictions all the credit we'll take it.

Again, Democratic Presidents are better for gun sales, numb nuts.

^^^

This is a spirit bomb to the rednecks I know.

I shoulda bought gun and ammo stock around 2007, truth be known...

The stupidest part of this statement is background checks for violent felons/etc is equivalent to money launderers with banks and how banks have to check in with the feds to ensure they're doing what's required to out and prevent dirty money entering their systems.

The funny thing is that Smith and Wesson was nearly driven to bankruptcy from the other side when they tried to make safety modifications to their guns after Columbine. NRA-led boycotts nearly killed them.

Keep squirming.

I don't think it's social activists fault. It's probably because of the NRA and Trump. Gun owners don't feel threatened about their guns being taken away or regulated so they're not buying up more guns in a panic cause there's no need to. Prices usually go up on ammo and guns around election season or when dems are in charge.

I feel like them blaming the sales decline on activists is an attempt to drum up outrage, and thus sales.

Good...nothing would please me more than every single death-dealing gun maker going under. If that happened, I think I'd pop a boner that lasted a week. Fuck guns, fuck weapons. All wars can be settled by fist fights from now on. Better yet, talent shows.

By your logic S&W, wouldn't "social activism" INCREASE sales to you target customers?

Like I said before, gun manufacturers want nothing more than a Dem in the WH nonstop. It produces record sales for them.
Exactly this. if I were in their position and I were an absolute monster like they are, I'd be throwing fat stacks of cash at every democrat presidential cantidate.
