Do people who hate on open world arcade racers, not like games like TDU 2?
I honestly think there is a market for them

I think it comes down to the difference of preferring "driving games" or "racing games". Open world games are much better driving games, where you can play for 100s hours and still find new routes and just drive around aimlessly, doing challenges, driving around wtih friends or whatever.

Racing though, is just better on closed track. But I personally don't really care for it that much. I vastly prefer the road trips and leisure of driving offered by TDU, Crew and Forza.

Yep.
I want to race, just driving...I got that in real life.
Also I doubt Driveclub would look even half as good if it was open world.

There's clearly a market for them as shown by the horizon games and I can appreciate those ones in particular are very good games, they just aren't for me. I want meticulously designed track courses rather than open world, I find them boring. Evolution and Studio Liverpool were gems that should still be making exclusive racers for Sony in a just world.

I would rather have them make a new motorstorm. We need more rally/off road racers this gen.

Codemasters just need to make another Dirt game. Dirt Rally was cool but Dirt 4 felt like a low budget title. Dirt 1&2 were like one of the best games last gen with top notch graphics.

For me I am kind of the opposite, I just feel like it's padding preventing me from getting to my racing content quickly. A big fancy load screen if you will. I don't even play that many open world games but I almost always fall back on fast travel options eventually.

I know the game didn't do well and they even closed Evolution Studio, but the assets in Driveclub are a goldmine the driving physics and handling, the graphics, the environment, cars model all are the best in the industry.

Almost all arcade racer suffer from poor handling but not Driveclub the handling is just perfect balance between fun and precision now imagine that goodness on open world game like Forza Horizon! Sony need to do something there aren't a good arcade racers in the industry except for Forza Horizon and that is an exclusive, the Crew 2 handling just suck and NFS has lost its ways.

If i were Sony i would ask Codemasters to develop Driveclub 2 since EVO people are there now, give them a good budget and you might have hit racer like FH.
The physics, graphics, and car models are all not best in the industry. Lol

Environments? Yeah it has nice trees but GT has just as nice of desert and city models. GT also looks better and their car models are far superior.

Also heck to the no on open world.

Sony should forget about Driveclub and focus on GT. Still boggles the mind that they went for that instead of a next gen Motorstorm. The straight Sim is something that had completely covered with an immensely popular franchise. Something like Onrush with a bigger budget...but now it's too late and they lost Evolution and upended lives because of a poor decision. Worst mistake of the gen for Sony, which is still nowhere near Microsoft, so at least they still have that going for them.

I sank more hours in DC than any other game this gen. Its plain around the edges but the most addicting driving game I ever played.

It sucked Sony dismantled evolution. I would kill for a DC2 or Motoatorm game. Haven't played Onrush but its gameplay videos just arent grabbing me.

Nowhere
I really dislike the focus on open world everything, Just give me my sim game with actual racing tracks...

For the record I have played horizon and I didn't like it, when I play racing games I typically play sim.

We already have 3 AAA open world racers, do we really need a 4th one?

Open world racing simulator would hardly be as fun as an arcade one. Horizon is so fun/popular because you can do whatever you want, I imagine that would not be the case with a simulator.
We have one good one, Forza Horizon. NFS and Crew aren't great

Having played the Crew 2 beta, the open world thing doesn't work for me or maybe it's simply that it does racing in cars and flying so poorly, because I LOVE Forza Horizon 3.

Personally I feel like the original CG Motorstorm could be an actual game now.

Throw in Wreckfests destruction system and baby you got a stew goin'
Play Onrush.

To answer the OPs question: No. The DriveClub IP is tarnished because of the games diabolical launch. Who would buy DriveClub 2 at launch? Evo did great work but to support the game but I seriously doubt we'll ever see a new game in the DriveClub franchise. Who would even work on it now that Evo work at Codemasters?

I like Driveclub, but I think they should've went with like a mix of Motorstorm and Mario Kart. So a more realistic, gritty kart racing game. Sony could use a nice kart racing franchise similar to the king (Mario Kart). I think Evolution could've pulled this off.

I don't think it makes sense to completely change the format for an existing racing game series. I like how Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon each do their own thing without forcing their respective formats on the other, and I don't think I'd want another racing series to change its format completely; that's what offshoots are for. If I want a certain type of game that isn't on a platform that I own, though, then I'll just buy the system that I need in order to get it. I bought a Wii U for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, because you just didn't get that style and quality of racing game on other platforms at the time; PlayStation's offerings in that sense just weren't great at the time.

how about Polyphony? Is this a studio that can give so much profit that Sony can pat on its head indefinitely even though there are devs like Evolution Studios which can do racing games way faster than Polyphony could ever dream about? Seems like double standards to me and Sony seemed to act like 'you are either rockstar if you succeed or I will set you on fire if you don't' to Evolution Studios imo.

did you really ask this about the sony studio that has one of their biggest franchises of all time? What happened to Evolution is sad though

It would have been a poor decision to force them to make a Motorstorm game too. Let's face it they just couldn't make it work even after almost a year's delay. It was their second bomb. Some at Evo we're even scared they'd be shut down after Apocalypse bombing.

Yeah, no.

Nothing turns me off a driving game more than the words "open world"

I would love a new Driveclub though, best racing game for me since PGR 3.

Yes I do. Just because Gran Turismo is one of my favorite racing franchises it doesn't mean I should excuse the way Polyphony conduct its business. But that's not this topic's subject. I just think Evolution Studios just made competent racing games but it was not one Sony's favorites and it was put to rest prematurely.

It's not a matter or question of favorites. It's business. Polyphony has an unmatched track record for Sony, off course they are going to get way more leeway than other studios will, especially one that wasn't producing critical nor commercially successful titles. Like I said, what happened to Evolution is sad but there's only so long you can keep a studio afloat if the numbers aren't matching up

They would draw a ton of comparisons to Horizon and if they didn't get it right, entitled fans wouldn't let them hear the end of it.

open world is the worst part of any game.

it's boring and time consuming.

linear gaming needs to come back, it's way more fun.

I mean they could spin off a gran turismo to be open world to compete with horizon, but it'd be really hard to top it in quality, between the forza engine being better and the experience the playground team has already with them nearing the 4th game's release, the expectations on it would be really unfair (first because it's a gran turismo game, second because the media would put it up against horizon) and I worry it wouldn't live up to expectations, not that it would be a bad game, also it probably would take a while to release, and plus who would make it now that they shut down evolution?

The only racer Sony needs to make besides the inevitable new Gran Turismo games is a PlayStation Karting game. Just so many characters and universes they could throw in there.

No.
I would love more Driveclub, but it absolutely does not need open world. I still have not played an Open World racer that comes near the track quality of the best track racers. That simply gets lost in the transition.

It can be an open world MMO where you drive to the tracks and have events there?

the forza engine being better

I believe that is not true; Forza uses video recording of the sky, whereas Driveclub uses actual volumetric cloud simulation and that is just 1 example.

Unfortunately the studio that is responsible for the best driving this generation and last generation as well is dead. If there was some magical way for Evolution Studios to make a comeback I would much prefer them to stick with the same formula of making fantastically crafted races and not open world.

One thing that would be amazing if a track creator was released for DriveClub and Motorstorm HD. Then users would be able to share their creations.

It's probably been posted many times already, but Driveclub was great *because* it wasn't open world.

If anything, we need a new Driveclub with properly executed multiplayer a la Onrush.

Why developing Driveclub to Sony only? Codemasters should do that Driveclub iteration on multiplat since Sony didn't give much support to that game before.
I'll put money on Codemasters Evo (eventually) doing a GRID sequel.

Driveclub had excellent post launch support. One of the best post launch support this gen even, kudos to Evolution Studios.
Is that a reference to PGR?
