Wow, what a blast from the past.

I was so hyped for this game and waiting for years for it to release and it never did. Eventually I just forgot about it.

I can't believe it! I'm in for KOS-MOS!

Shouldn't they just release the thing before announcing it even a week before? That's just asking for a C&D

Really cool stuff, the attention to detail is amazing. I especially love the animation of Cloud changing spells by shoving a materia into one of his sword's holes (though I hope that consuming both special bars when casting a spell is one of the oddities of the prototype). It took me a while to figure out how to complete Cross Slash (just hold Back and keep pressing the Special button with correct timing after each slash).

I now need a training mode that lets me play with permanent full bars and especially try all of the assists. In the meantime, for the curious you can try them by entering 2P versus mode and hitting each other until the cards become available (keep hitting the player to charge it up to higher "qualities", which are entirely different characters).

I never thought I'd get to actually play this after all these years. The sprites are as godlike as I remember.

Edit: Wow the game feels great to play, it's like a cross between traditional 2D fighting games and smash bros.

Just realized that since this is released to the public, someone is definitely gonna try to port it to IKEMEN for online play.

It should be possible to just enable debug mode and then refill meter by hitting one of the F# keys in training mode.

This is a surprise. Been checking for updates in the past and pretty much gave up thinking this will never see the light of day. I will try this out later. How's the player build so far?

Edit: So I tried launching the game, it's showing black screen despite hearing sounds. Anyone have this problem?

Oh shit, blast from the past indeed. I'll give it a go later

I remember they made sprite art for a lot more characters. Will they be assists?

Try adusting the size of the game resolution in mugen's data files. It comes with a hige size by default

I tried doing just that with no success. I enabled debug without issue, and some of the debug hotkeys work (e.g. visible hitboxes, log, and a few others) but most doesn't. I even went so far as to look at the version of the debug keys wiki page from 2011, since that'd be the MUGEN version used by this, but no luck.

Do you need mugen program for this to work?

Nope, it comes with its own version of MUGEN.

The game autocombos like crazy, it plays way more like Smash than a traditional fighter I realized but I love it. Pretty much only need to input motions to pull off supers I think?

It really is a shame that this won't be finished. What they have now is a great foundation that's already pretty fun to play.

Weird. I wonder why they don't all work

The Earth Worm Jim card assist with Jim coming out and bouncing you around on the giant marshmallow from the Puppy Love stages made my nostalgic senses explode.

I'm really disappointed that I'm not able to try this due to the issue with black screen. I tried changing the resolution and the depth, still giving me the same problem. I wish I could send a message to Dani Oliver about this but I don't have a twitter and don't want to create an account.

Some people are continuing to work out infinites and the like on a discord channel. They just ported over to IKEMAN.

Mother of god, that didn't take long. :D

A twitter account takes all of ten seconds to make, but I don't think he'd be able to help you much with it, the build is clearly provided as-is and it's not fair to ask him to troubleshoot every person that has issues with it.

That said you have quite a few other options:
  • Check the IKEMEN build in the link above.
  • Alternatively, download MUGEN and see if it works on your computer.
    • If it doesn't, you have a much wider community that can help you troubleshoot (that is, MUGEN itself).
    • If it does work, try copying the cfg files over the Card Saga Wars ones.

Doubt this will help but just in case; I have a multi-screen setup and I notice when dragging the window from my main screen to another it goes completely black, dragging it back to my main things look fine again though.

I assume this ''IKEMEN'' is a program to allow online play? I'm not familiar with it, its been a decade or more since I played MUGEN. :)

I remember following this for years; I'll give it a download for sure. The spritework is still absolutely gorgeous. I remember their website had tons of cards on it with a bunch of unique sprites, but it seems like that website is gone now? That's a shame.

I don't know what Card Saga Wars is, and this is the first time I've heard of it.

But I've downloaded it anyways. I'm excited.

It's such a surreal feeling to actually play this game after so long, but it's GREAT. Really cool mechanics for a fighting game to have, a little ahead of their time even. Worth the wait for sure, and I'm really looking forward to getting the next 8 characters over time.

I cannot believe this is actually out. I remember checking for this when I was in high school, lol. Gotta download when I go home.

I downloaded IKEMEN build, it didn't give me problems till I played training mode. There are times where it lags, then becomes normal, then the game becomes really fast. Yeah I won't bother him with this, I'm glad that I have this downloaded. Oh, I do have both mugen called Mortal Kombat Project 4.1 and Hyper Dragon Ball Z, they both work like a charm. Should I use either of there cfg files?

Edit: So I searched for mugen cfg file and copied the contents to the CSW one. It works, it's missing music, but it works. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

I don't have multi-screen set up so I can't try this but it's good to know. Thanks.

Glad to be of service and especially that you got it working! Give training mode a try, you can control both characters and with infinite life it's relatively easy to hit each other to activate assists, which are really cool.

Also this build itself seems to be missing music indeed. The Zelda stage doesn't have one, for example, only the Megaman X one does. I'm assuming later builds will feature more stages and music.
