Painkiller was a blast when it came out, fast paced, great controls, the first ragdolls and great weapon impact (you pierced people with wooden stake that stuck in the bodies xD ).
I loved the game, i remember modding in a 3D radar, Elite-fashion, because there were some fun things to find in the game world (it has to be present somewhere, lost the source a long time ago).
I am certain it aged a lot visually, and i won't look at it, i want to keep my good memories :)
The Darkness' World War 1 Hell is my favourite cause it's unsettling, sad, and inspired.
It's still gorgeous. What a masterpiece! Not technically Hell or even an Afterlife, but Silent Hill's Otherworld acts very much the way Hell is often described as, with fire/blood/brimstone, whilst also being personalized nightmares! Probably the most inventive take on a Hell-like setting I've ever seen in a video game, especially the sheer Otherness of 1 and 3's!

Woah, what version of Worms 1 is this? Looks way clearer than I remember and I like the look of the worm sprites in this. Not the darkest one for sure, but I love the hell setting in Worms ^-^
Jazz Jackrabbit 2 had a badass stage theme for its Hell finale
Absolutely. Darkness 2 does some really cool storytelling devices like in-game flashbacks and switches to a mental hospital that further fleshes out the characters.

I love hell in The Void (btw currently on -80% sale on Steam - https://store.steampowered.com/app/37000 )
Well, it's not exactly hell, but it takes place really close to it.
Well, it's hard to say, because this game is hard and can be really frustrating, but world and story are absolutely worth it. Gameplay is some sort of survival game, you need to collect Colour to survive, but at the same time, you need to give Colour to the world in order to get it and survive. It's really not a typical modern game, it gives a very little information and you need to learn gameplay details by yourself (or read walkthroughs), really easy to stuck and die at first and start from the scratch. But again, story and world is really deep and unique, I haven't seen anything like thisAight time to install this. I believe i bought it on a whim a couple years ago and ive always found the visuals very interesting. Is it an interesting game in general?
Well, that part was still cool imo because it stands out from the blue ish/yellow environments from the other areas of the game, lots of bright red, the small platforms she goes through is the johnson forest mentioned on the first game.but definetly it would be nice to revisit hell and go to another place with mechanical stuff. some Angels also have mechanical motiffs btw with them getting it from humanity. The area in your pic (the gates of hell) is pretty cool looking, but inferno itself is pretty dull. Just rocks and spiky vines as far as I recall. Doesn't really fit with the mechanical look of most of the demons in the game either. I always thought the angels/paradiso aesthetics were far cooler and more unified.
Can't believe no one has mentioned Barkley: Shut Up and Jam! Gaiden.
You move as if underwater though lol. The games are great. Humble bundle just did 2 for free.

Oh yeah man now I'm remembering how radical these games are.
It's a secret area.I played through this and can't believe I never got to this part.
The peeling walls were the best thing about Homecoming(and one of the only two good things), but even that was ripped straight out of the movie. It's still gorgeous. What a masterpiece!
I kinda prefer the effects they have in later games with peeling walls.

We got one!Yes, yes, YES, this, oh my god this is so good, this is fucking art, oh we need a remaster.
