My theater was such a mess of snot and sadness after A Monster Calls, that movie is an absolute gut punch that teases you up then just pushes you down again.

And The Impossible is massively harrowing and awe inspiring.

I expect to be disappointed by Fallen Kingdom.

Just go watch those instead.

I expected jw2 to be god awful, and yet it still managed to surprise me with how bad it was. It fully deserve every bit of hate I see in this thread. It is a BAD movie.

Orient Express was so bad. So so bad and boring. Almost a complete slog for me. But a major reason why I felt that way was because I watched it right after ending the original so it wasn't exactly a good decision by any means.

Ghost in the Shell was the same. I quit the movie after the 20-minute mark and then never returned to it again.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom had my attention from the start till the end. It is not comparable to these movies in my opinion. But Bronson also liked Colossus and it was another movie that felt like a giant waste of time to me so I can't speak for his taste. I never managed to finish In The Mountain Between Us and dropped it as soon as they were rescued while it is the Top ten movie of Bronson.

You can know it is a Treveorrow movie with the script but the direction this time is better for sure. Bayona has done whatever he can to salvage the terrible script hacked together by Tervorrow.
Since you and a few other people seem a little fexed I could dislike FK more than Ghost in the Shell, I'll explain

  • Not a single character in this movie acts like a human being, and I don't even mean a rational human being. Motivations are so ill-defined and nonsensical; just getting the key players to go to the island in the first 15 minutes requires bigger logic leaps than most bad blockbusters go through in their entire runtime. And things only get worse on that front in the second half of the film as characters continue to do and say things only so the plot can move forward, I hate that in a movie more than anything.
  • All the characters are varying degrees of obnoxious, but Franklin is a howling ghoul who is a negative so massive no positive could hope to zero out.
  • The movie cannot decide whether dinosaurs are murder machines that should be left dead or beautiful creatures that should be revered. Because of that there's tonal whiplash all over the place. And to that point, there's a genuine mean streak towards the treatment of dinosaurs here; we see them killed and tortured repeatedly throughout, the nadir being so emotionally manipulative it my eyes roll, not water.... Then it circles back to the idea that, yes, these are going to kill us. It comes off nasty to me and kind of gross.
  • I can't really talk about the problems with the kid without spoiling, but the plot twist revolving around here is revealed is an incredibly sloppy manner (again, just to get that plot moving) and the whole reason we find out is paid with a super hackneyed scene with maybe the worst line of dialogue I've heard this year.
  • I can appreciate what Bayona brought to the film on a visual level compared to Trevorrow (even though I disagree with many that the opening scene is great; it felt super derivative of the series' past) and probably my favorite touch on that front was the Baryonyx scene, but he was given a mega turkey of a script and did not direct his actors well at all. Even veteran actors like James Cromwell and Geraldine Chaplin are just there.
I thought this was very, very bad. Down there with the Transformers sequels for some of the worst summer blockbuster sequels in recent memory.

Someone literally told me on their way out that they were going to go on the internet and complain about JW2

Which one of you is in your mid-forties, roughly 230 pounds, with brown hair and a five o'clock shadow

So I guess BoxOfficeEra told me they were going to complain on the internet on their way out of the theater tonight

What a time to be alive

I saw JW2 today.

It was shit.

Deserves the hate it gets around here.

Other people in the theater seemed to enjoy it a lot more than me tho, so maybe it doesn't have terrible legs.

Those are both great films. Largely because they weren't written by Colin Trevorrow.

Just saw Jurassic world. It fucking sucked so bad. All of the criticism is 100% justified. Easily the worst movie I've seen in a long time... thank god it was free

It's been out here for weeks but I haven't seen FK due to sheer apathy. Reading these impressions won't make me change my mind. Hard to imagine they could screw up worse after JW, but looks like they did.

It looks like a fun b-movie rental.
Which is what this franchise was always destined to be past the first one in my opinion, so the sequels being mediocre at best has never bothered me that much.

I still would have preferred if he stayed on for IX, if only to see what his writing "style" would have looked like with these characters

It's not like this trilogy has earned any better
Right...

And that's exactly what LucasFilm needed; to have the guy whose idea of a well-written female character is Claire in JW write for Rey.

To compare the terrible writing of Trevorow to Rian Johnson and Lawrence Kasdan, both of which got really strong critical praise for their scripts is silly.

Trevorow has proven he is incapable of writing for females.

???

You don't think Abrams is better than Colin Trevorrow?
A lot of people hope for a Star Wars movie to be bad or hire a bad writer/director. It's the console wars sort of us vs. them franchise fandom competition sort of thing.

You saw it at play with the DCEU the last few years, after the first few bad movies you saw a lot hope for whatever was up next to be bad. I never understood getting excited over a movie getting bad reviews or bombing at the box office, it's weird to me.

Universal is claiming $150M flat for JW2. Even if that winds up being a little high its still their second largest weekend ever.

It sucks because I love the idea of new Jurassic Park films with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. I'll never understand what Spielberg saw in Trevorrow.

I don't blame Trevorrow for the movies sucking. All Jurassic Park sequels suck because there shouldn't be sequels to begin with.

1. We opened a dinosaur park
2. People died during testing phase
3. Creator decided to shut it down

It's a pretty open and shut story.

That being said, I'm seeing it in like 2 hours just to see how batshit the ending is.

I enjoyed Jurassic World as well as Fallen Kingdom for what they were, and really liked Safety Not Guaranteed, but going fro SNG to Jurrasic World and being announced as the director of Episode IX will always make me believe that Trevorrow is blakmailing people on high places because that is such a big jump lol
