Pretty sure this is 4 years after launch date of the unit which is kind of a eh move considering we're 3 years in on the first MacBooks affectedHoly shit. Totally thought they would wait until they had a new keyboard released.
4 years after purchase, too

Agreed. At least this (probably) means the keyboard will be redesigned/fixed in the next revision.
So given that Apple is finally footing the bill on keyboard woes, is the general consensus still that we should hold off upgrading until a revision comes out (I have a late '11 MBP that I'm gonna be needing to replace)?
If you can hold off do it. I have been reading strong rumors that a new Macbook could be pushed back to 2019 because of issues with the intel chips. Either way do not expect a new Macbook pro before late September. So given that Apple is finally footing the bill on keyboard woes, is the general consensus still that we should hold off upgrading until a revision comes out (I have a late '11 MBP that I'm gonna be needing to replace)?

Intel has pushed back releasing Cannon lake chips in mass until 2019. While they can use coffee lake chips, the lack of LPDDR4 support might be whats kept apple waiting for Cannon. Or it could be apple having to do a earlier than expected redesign because of the keyboard thats got things delayed. There's no Intel chip problem, people just like scapegoating Intel to excuse Apple's failures. There are already new Intel chips ready to be used if Apple bothered updating their Macs.

Cannot say I've experienced that.Anyone have their MBP keyboard and trackpad freeze up for about 30 seconds now and then? Can be typing in word or safari and the keyboard will stop responding and the trackpad will become 'solid' and not click in

Try this: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/how-to-download-icloud-photos,news-24697.htmlI'm trying to help someone backup their photos from their iPhone. I got them to buy iCloud data high enough to store all their stuff, and it has uploaded all their photos to iCloud (like 15000 photos). However, I want to then download all of those photos, in their original quality, to an external hard drive. You used to be able to go to iCloud and through the Photos app, either shift-click or command-A to select all photos. This doesn't seem to work anymore. Now, my only choice seems to be to command-click every single photo, which I'm not going to do since it is 15,000 photos, or try to get Photos working on their computer. The machine is still on El Capitan, but I don't see any iCloud tab in the Photos.app. Also, when I tell Photos to download the iCloud originals, it doesn't seem to download anything, and rather it says it is uploading like 11,000 photos, and it's been saying it's uploading for several hours now with no change that I can see (they have a fast internet connection).
Any suggestions? Upgrading their OS isn't an option. And, to make it clear, all photos are showing up in iCloud in Safari, but not in the Photos.app on El Capitan.
And, I don't know what they've done, but in the past they've screwed up their multiple login accounts when connecting their phones to their computer, so I'm a little worried about connecting the phone in the chance it tries to delete everything or do an incorrect sync (though the phone is supposedly backed up through iCloud).

I could try to log on through my computer, but I'm visiting family and trying to do it while I'm here. Boot camp on their computer is out of the question. No access to another computer that they can install the photos app on? How about setting up boot camp and install windows to use the windows iCloud photo app - that can sync all your photos to a folder on your windows install
So you did the right thing, turning on download originals on the machine on El Cap. I know it says uploading now, but what it's doing is comparing all the photos that were already on the machine with what got uploaded from the phone and equalizing the two. When that's all done all the originals from both sources will be on the Mac, and you can then move them to an external drive.

That's kind of what I thought, but it hasn't budged from its original upload of photos of 11,000 and they have fiber internet so I am worried that it isn't decreasing. I thought the culprit would be that they're still on El Capitan and an older version of photos.
Four-ish hours or so. I'll be able to leave it running all day tomorrow so hopefully it completes before I leave. How long has it been like that? That's not SUPER unusual since it also includes indexing the photos in the "upload" process
Gimme black AirPods then I'll be interested.Noise canceling AirPods? Gimme that shit.
Though paying 250 bucks or so for earbuds is pretty ridiculous...

Black, noise cancelling Airpods in a range of sizes.
Yeah, the noise cancelling on the WF-1000X's is pretty damn underwhelming, there's really no use in putting it in earbuds, just eats up battery and does next to nothing for blocking out sound. And Sony is like head-of-class with noise-cancelling so if even they can't make it much of a difference, I don't see how Apple could.Noise canceling AirPods? Gimme that shit.

You better bet the premium AirPods will come with a red dot or in a non-white color :p

I'm willing to be surprised though, but if it's going to cost me extra, it better be damn good.
anyone have a wireless, portable battery charger? Would like something compact to carry with me in case I need to top up my iphone X, and with wireless it'd be convenient with no cables etc. Amazon don't seem to have anything except brands I've never heard of - presumably generic Chinese chargers.
Mophie used to make a good one years and years ago that was a little larger than a lighter that clipped to your keychain, and it would charge half of a phone's battery. It was discontinued sadly, but it was a very nice portable solution that fit in any pants pocket and was enough to get you through emergencies. It also was before wireless charging was a thing, but it had a built-in lightning connector. I know it's not what you are looking for, but powerbanks with built-in cords do exist and are cheap.anyone have a wireless, portable battery charger? I think it's more that they're not currently guaranteed to be water resistant. If you wear them in the rain and they break, you won't be eligible for a replacement pair. A lot of people won't wear them in the rain for that reason, even though they actually resist water pretty well. You can't possibly hear with them underwater?
They'd have to be in ear buds for that no?
Ah yes, it's just the poster above me was talking about keeping them on during swimming hehe.I think it's more that they're not currently guaranteed to be water resistant. I wear mine in the rain but I'm rock and roll.

Ah, thanks, I had no idea. I guess they just want to slap a reassuring IP rating on the next Airpods them.FWIW even if it's rated as "water resistant" Apple doesn't cover liquid damage as part of the warranty. This goes for phones, watches, PowerBeats, etc. It just helps prevent the damage itself.
I-I don't know.You can't possibly hear with them underwater?

The rumors are completely mixing rogerhet Apple's high end overhead headphones and calling them AirPods too (I doubt that will be the name) with 2nd gen AirPods. I feel like noise cancelling might be just for the cans.
Personally I also don't need noise cancelling in the AirPods. I really like that I can go on with the day with them and sometimes I find myself talking to people and forgetting I have them on (if music is paused).
