that was amazing.

the one thing that baffles me about the commentary in the thread is about the accents.

lived in BK for 15 years and the only thing bad is how slow they talk compared to real life.

pronunciation is on point and so is the *stupsing*

"Stokes. Mariah Stokes."

You know, watching this season really illustrates to me how Black Lightning took some cues from season 1. The way they use music for sure.

Haha, I loved this

Yea, this show and BL makes the best use of music.

Give me your non-spoiler review please. Is it better than Daredevil or JJ 2?

Much better, and I liked JJS2 the most. This show has the best supporting cast. But yea, I thought it was quality all the way through.

Been a Jamaican my whole life and no, the pronunciation is not on point. Sometimes they sounded like Haitians or Trinidadians speaking Jamaican Patois.

Finished with the season.

The Good:

-Bushmaster: Excellent villain overall for Luke Cage. While I wasn't a big fan of the actor's Jamaican accent (or others), having a Jamaican villain was great for this show. In addition, having a villain with combat abilities helped with the fight scenes. His backstory and what the Stokes did to him also made you understand the motivations for the character even if you didn't agree with him. A great improvement over the trash that was Diamondback last season. In addition, Bushmaster's family and supporting cast brought his character to life and made him a worthy successor to Cottonmouth.

-Misty: This felt like Misty's show as much as it did Luke's which was a great thing. In fact, I really wanted to see more struggles with Misty and her getting used to her arm/her arm's strength. I was a little disappointed with Misty deciding not to walk away from law enforcement simply because I'm a little tired of Luke vs Misty, but it was a nice surprise and more consistent with her character.

-Iron Fist/Bushmaster/Misty + Luke Cage fight scenes: Outside of the first episode with Luke listening to Shook Ones, unless Luke was fighting Bushmaster, most of Luke's "fights" weren't very entertaining. It was only when he was teamed up with Iron Fist, Misty, or Bushmaster that the fight scenes became fun to watch, especially some of Luke and Iron Fist's combos.

-Tilda: Excellent edition to the cast. At first I wasn't too sure about the character and figured she would just be there to be a "weakness" for Mariah, but her growth throughout the season to the point of killing was great to watch.

-Mariah: I didn't really like her last season, especially with how the show dropped in quality after Cottonmouth died, but she was handled well this season. Seeing her jump from villain to "needing protection" to villain over and over was a little messy but it worked.

-Shades: I enjoyed Shades last season and he continued to be a great supporting cast member this season. I would have liked to have seen him take over Mariah's operations but we've had way too many characters fighting for Cottonmouth's throne at this point.

-Sugar character development was a nice surprise.

-Season 1 tie-ins: While there was a lot of focus on events that happened between Seasons 1 and 2 in other shows, I liked that Season 2 continued to link and reference events from Season 1, including minor character deaths.

The Bad:

-Claire: I don't know if she had other movies to film, but Claire being such a strong focus the first 3 episodes only to "abruptly" disappear never to be seen again outside of two-three name drops was weak and practically ruined Luke's character growth IMO. Not even a scene with Claire at her mom's house reacting to the news going on/thinking about Luke. No, let's just have Iron Fist drop her name and Sugar mention she was at the club in the final episode. Just keep Claire off the show if she can't commit to it.

-Luke's development: This has to do with Claire also, but I wanted to see a real resolution to Luke's "anger" problems, instead of it being "solved" with a sparring match with Iron Fist. As it stands it just feels like the anger issues were a way to write Claire out of the story vs a real problem the writers wanted to explore with Luke's character. Even against Bushmaster you never saw Luke "lose it" on him outside of the final fight scene with Mariah screaming for Luke to kill him. In addition, Luke gaining Mariah's club and owning it felt "out of character" for Luke. It's an interesting concept for next season having Luke potentially be a "bad guy" but after everything with Claire, Luke's father, and even Iron Fist, it just felt like bad writing for Luke.

-Iron Fist's cameo: While I enjoyed the fight sequence with Luke and Iron Fist, it was weird to have Iron Fist show up for one episode and then disappear before the "main events".

-Luke's father: Like Claire it felt like his character got written out of the show at the point where his involvement should have grown/continued. I'm assuming his health was a factor, but in a couple of interviews with the Luke Cage staff, I saw that they mentioned Reg E. Cathey finished all his filming before he got too sick to film anymore.

-David Griffith: Terrible character this season. Especially episode 13 when Luke got Mariah's club and David "suddenly" being the moral compass.

-Cornball dialog and poor social issue discussion: ViewtifulJC posted a tweet/gif earlier of an example of this, but this was consistent throughout the season. Corny/out of place dialog, and random social issue discussion that felt forced. From Luke dabbing, to a random young child lecturing Luke for being "just like the cops", to Luke and Claire randomly having a discussion about the struggles of Black men vs Afro Latinos, to Mariah arguing with Bushmaster's uncle about Jamaican stereotypes after kidnapping him, it all felt out of place/forced.

-Inconsistent censoring: This was minor and maybe had more to do with the song licenses, but it was weird hearing "live" performances uncensored and uncensored dialog, but random Wu-Tang tracks with censored lyrics.

-Too many episodes: I feel like this season would have been better as 8-10 episodes instead of 13. Eliminate things like Iron Fist and Coleen's spoon fed appearances, the Claire plot that went nowhere, and just focus on Bushmaster vs Luke vs Mariah.

Overall, this season was more "consistent" than season 1 and it didn't have Diamondback in a ridiculous 80's super sentai costume, so that alone makes it better than Season 1 as a whole. But this season didn't excite me the way Luke vs Cottonmouth did, and characters like Claire kept me from enjoying it completely. I still enjoyed the season, and the ending and the potential from that ending does have me interested in where Season 3 is going to go, but I'm lowering my expectations going forward.

Finished Episode 8. I had hope this season would be amazing from the reviews, but damn, this has turned out to be absolute top tier Marvel television. Really enjoying this chessboard game and all the players. I remember us talking before or around Daredevil S1 came out, that that's the premise that would be exciting for a Daredevil season. All these players fighting for the city. And now we actually got that but in a Luke Cage show. All of these actors are doing some real good acting. Mariah, Shades, Piranha, Comanche, Misty, Pops, just everyone. But damn I've been disliking the cop Nandi for a long time, and now she's suddenly turned on a whim lol.

I really love how this all ties back to this familial history. It's not just not random beef over territory or something. Makes it feel real, where you feel where each side is coming from. Well, except maybe Mariah's, cuz she the worst lol

2nd half just gets better from here too

She didn't know the snitch reported to the captain right? If so, I love how she's surprised by this, yet still gives the fakest response ever lmao
She didn't know about it no. Shades kept it to himself. So yeah, both surprised and such a fake ass response to it. It's golden.

Also one thing that shocked me was
Claire not showing up again after she left. I was for sure she was gonna get kidnapped at some point especially after Bushmaster was talking about attacking Cage's loved ones.
Also sad to see that the actor who played Cage's pops died in real life.

Damn that sucks. I do not know the actor's name, but I believe he was in The Wire as well. Sad to see him go.

Can I just say, Johnny "Bushmaster" McIver is THE king!
Haven't finished the season, but man, he's cool.

I also can't wait to see my boy Danny turn up. Hopefully I'll get around to it tomorrow as I'm at Episode 9. Danny Rand will redeem himself this year. And he'll show why Iron Fist is the greatest.

Btw, one of the best things about this show are the five minute musical performances. I can just sit back and relax, and take those beautiful tunes, tones and singing performances in for real. It has made Harlem Paradise one of the best locations in the MCU, and it's like being there at a nice Sunday night for this concert, and it's all so sweet.

While I liked this season, tired of Mariah's shit from the get go. Was pretty annoying actually.

Bushmaster was fantastic though.

Glad that danny is finally in it, wonder if it was only this one episode.

This series really does feel too long imo but I haven't been offended or annoyed with anything.

More importantly with Danny, it feels like him and Luke could actually be friends now, where as in the Defenders they just seemed like 2 people that would never get along.

Can't believe I didn't realize Alfre Woodard played a totally different character in Capt America: Civil War.

Finished it up today. While it never really had the highs of the first half of the 1st season, overall I really enjoyed it.

I especially like how things were handled in the final episode.

Alfre Woodard is too good.

Just began Season 2, but I'm digging it. Bushmaster seems like a way better villain than Diamondback *eyeroll*

I just started, but someone tell me: does Wakanda give Misty a new arm?

I mean they had to have had some people in Harlem and Misty's arm in the comics is a type of vibranium

I'm on episode 3.

Luke was outta line losing his temper like that. That said, Claire need to stay out his business. Stop asking this man to reform with his father when his father was trash who wouldn't even acknowledge him while he was in prison.

Wow.

My favorite Season 2 of the three released so far, by a mile. The ending just sealed it to me, loved it.

They also managed to make the best interpretation of Danny in Netflix universe so far, that's incredible.

After the mess that was JJ S2 I was starting to lose hope but there's still a glimmer there.

I haven't seen any of the other marvel shows but the fact that this season is supposely that much worst than season 1 which suffered from an identity crisis halfway through the season is completely ridiculous. Bushmaster is a great villain and this season is way more cohesive than the first

Umm so I'm watching episode 7 and
Jeph Loeb mentioned that all the tv series take place before Infinity War is fucking bullshit right? Mariah's bank account lists transfers for dates in August 2018...

11 episodes in and i still don't understand why people keep trying to shoot this man. The man is a well known celebrity at this point. It's a well known fact that bullets do absolutely nothing.

In that same vein, why does luke even bother dodging incoming attacks.

You go back to any of these crime bosses and tell them you didn't bother to lift a finger while Luke was tearing through their shit.
