I feel like this is a project they decided not to throw money at. one of those "if they had more engineers, they could have gotten everything in". but given this is one of their anime games, budget wasn't particularly high.
Honestly, I get the opposite feel. I think they're going for a "games a service" model with this game, with the switch to UE4 being intended to facilitate reuse of some backend stuff Bandai Namco has on hand and ease long-term extendability, but they didn't put in enough time to smooth over all the problems with the initial gameplay... that, or someone high up saw Rainbow Six Siege's comeback and thought "We don't need to nail everything at the start, so some jank is okay."

The whole appeal of funnels is the chaos of multiple weapons zipping around and shooting targets from multiple angles.

So...what part of its inclusion here reflects that? I'd love to read more about this game's development. Waifus are powerful beings, but don't fuck with my giant robots.

So my friend bought this and since I'm a fan of 3 and played it a lot we gave it a try. And my verdict is: it's pretty bad. You feel slow and the input lag is pretty bad or it feels sluggish rather and attacks feel weak and there's no hit stop like 3. Combat also feels slower in general. And one thing that really bugs me is when you start it up for the first time you can't adjust your settings till after your first fight (can't change settings in missions at all). Meaning I was stuck with the camera y axis set on normal and was having a hard time fighting the camera. Oh and the part swapping? Cumbersome and annoying. You can only pick up and hold on to like 7 or six at a time. So running around picking up, switching, discarding and equipping them detracts from the fights. It's not fun.

Also it takes longer to load compared to 3 too since I booted it up after to compare. 3 also just looks better in my opinion, plays better, combat is better and loads faster.

It's a shame we finally got a Gundam Breaker game released outside Japan but it's a game that's hot garbage.
Just get Gundam Breaker 3 Break Edition, it's a better game.

My friend agreed and was disappointed so we went to return it and he ordered 3 from playasia.

And seeing how it's a slightly niche Japanese developed title we'll never hear from the developers about it.

Hooray.
No, that's not why. It's the opposite. If this was a niche developer driven Japanese game, you would hear a lot more about it. Instead, this is a mainstream license title of a big brand from a big publisher so no one cares who really develops these games.

I was talking more about how Western gaming journalists won't bother to lambast and push Bandai Namco for questions as to their design decisions since it's not an interesting title for them. I can't imagine anyone in the Japanese gaming press would dare upset such a large publisher with a golden IP for the region, nor would they care.

They delayed it a few weeks ago.

It's probably for the best, since the game has some major performance issues and tuning that needs to happen.
Thanks, reading through more of this thread it seems like it may be for the best.

It never was listed on Steam.
I could have sworn it had a page on Steam awhile back because I remember looking at it but I could be wrong. All is good though since it's been delayed.

any of you wanting to buy this on steam, or still thinking about buying it on PS4.

DONT.

DONT.

This game is one of the worst Gundam games ever (and THAT is saying something), and it may actually be 10 Hitlers. Perhaps 12. It's awful. Please avoid this mess.

I'm really mad about this. Breaker 3 is probably my favorite Gundam Game, and the one they decide to bring across the Pacific is this mess? I guess that's what I get for not going for a physical copy.

Once the framerate gets fixed I could see myself enjoying it a little bit more. Right now it's just frustrating.

Made it through Iori's story (with a non-customized F91 because it was that good) and don't really feel like doing much else.

New Gundam Breaker was developed by another Dev different from the first 3 games, and were made to use UE instead of whatever was used before which may explain why there's so little in this game because they couldn't reuse assets from the previous game.

I knew it was a different team but in regards to the previous devs being fired? Could have just been a random ass pull by someone on Twitter.

Yeesh that sucks. My biggest problem is collecting parts and those damn quest that randomly pop up. Hell I barely do them and most of the time its done by the npc, while I'm going around delivering parts >.<

Fin funnels open backwards......

Wow.......

LMAO how is this even possible. You would think BN would be more careful when hiring studios for such a huge IP....

BN Studios: hey we need a new developer for our Gundam game. You're a Gundam fan right?
New Studio: hell yeah the blue lion was always my favorite!
BN Studios. you're hired.

In other news, I listened to the advice here and picked up GB3: Break Edition from the Singapore store. Cost about 6000 yen or so. I played a bunch over the weekend and the improvements over 1 and 2 are welcome.
Now, I just need to convince my brother to give up hope on NGB and just buy GB3 as well....

Honestly, while Break Edition is great if you want to get the most of the game, it might be easier to convince him to grab the regular version - few post-story DLC scenarios and a bunch of new MS are the only differences iirc.

Break Edition is cheaper if you're going digital (for some reason), which is why a bunch of folks are recommending it.

Played for a bit. It's not even close to as bad as Target in Sight but I don't know what Bandai Namco was thinking. G-Saviour on the PS2 was perfectly playable in comparison.

It's sluggish with the controls often changed for no discernible reason. The new dash mechanism is terrible. How you jump has never been incredibly intuitive in previous Gundam Breaker games but they took something that was kinda not broken and took it out back and smashed it to bits. I'd really love to see an interview with the dev team because their decisions make no sense.

There is a significant delay when "trying" to pick up parts. I'm not sure if I just pass through and it will automatically get picked up for me or if I need to stand still in place for a second. Ugh.

And probably just a personal preference, but the high school setting is stupid as fuck. We were always teenagers in the old GB games but damn this is one is just terrible with the complete lack of choice visual novel segment additions.

Currently working on my review for the game and I have to agree 100% with EnronERA on it. The game is a hard pass even if you find it on a deep discount. Currently just finished the first arc for the first partner character and I'm dreading right now on playing the rest.

Just got a comment on the video i made that said the multiplayer is much better. Is that true? oh and he also said it was a mixture of MOBA. is that true also?

I'm usually pretty lenient on games but APB on the playstation 4 and this game are the only 2 games where I made a video that told people to stay away from :(

I saw this was out and almost grabbed it because I loved Gundam Breaker 3. I decided to pass as I've still been playing SRW X and didn't really need to add to my backlog atm...

Now I hear it is getting destroyed in reviews on Amazon jp. And it's price is half off. Wow! What happened? Lackluster studio? UE4 woes? Short development time? Small budget? This is almost comedy. Did Bandai Namco not even care?

Gundam Breaker 3 was such a good time... This is just crushing. This series is probably done now just like Another Century's Episode.

They should had just brought Gundam Breaker 3 here and relabeled it. This is just all terrible news.

The review closing is insane in hindsight if you consider that not even Extreme Versus Force got to that point.
When not compared to any of the other games in the VS series, Versus Force is a solid game. It's the Citizen Kane of Gundam games compared to New Gundam Breaker if we had only had those two to compare against. xD

And speaking of Breaker 3, my copy should be arriving today haha.

I'll continue to push through NGB until I platinum because it's a pretty easy game and I'm a masochist, but these are my sticking points as to why it's a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge kusoge:
  • Bad hit detection
  • Terrible combat flow
  • Can't control your partner actions considering how dependent you are on them
  • Why they hell is there hardly any forward momentum on most melee attacks?
  • Stun lock from enemies is garbage
  • Movement is too sluggish
  • Sub-skills shouldn't be locked down by the MOBA-esque game flow
That's not counting the multitude of other reasons that have been mentioned before. :)

Remember that trailer with the Zeta cast? Yeah, we all should have known that the women were wrong and that Kamille as right all along.

I was waiting for this game so much after finishing Breaker 3.. I hope they'll listen to feedback but I doubt Bandai even care
